Kenneth and Nancy and their 2 children, Jeffrey and new baby Elizabeth, moved to the extreme northeast corner of IA. Eventually, after renting for a period of years, the family purchased a home and moved to Calmar in Jul 1970. Nancy had begun teaching in the health area of what was known as Area I on Mar 1970. Nancy completed a BA degree in Sociology/Psychology with additional course work in education and teacher’s certification at Upper Iowa University in 1974. In 1991 Nancy completed an MA in Educational Psychology at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. Nancy has continued at the Area I post-secondary school through the years of a vocational-technical school into the current years as a community college. Currently Nancy teaches the transfer college level courses in the social sciences.

Jeffrey Scott was born at Cedar Falls. Jeffrey graduated from South Winneshiek High School in Calmar and completed a baccalaureate degree in Business with emphasis in Economics from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA. Jeff attended the University of Michigan Law School and later decided to enter the Naval Officers Candidate School at Newport, Rl where he was commissioned Ensign. Jeff served on active duty for 6 years; first as an Intelligence Officer on board the U.S.S. Aircraft carrier Nimitz and then in Intelligence at the Naval Base, Rota, Spain. Jeff returned to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and completed an MBA in 1995. Jeff is in the Naval Reserves as an Intelligence Officer and is employed in transportation research with the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, NE.

Elizabeth Marie was born at Cedar Rapids. Elizabeth “Beth” graduated from South Winneshiek High School in Calmar, completed an AA degree in accounting at Kirkwood College and a baccalaureate in Marketing from Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids. Elizabeth has been employed in an employment agency, in marketing, and is currently employed in the position of company personnel manager. Elizabeth was married to Curtis Mills 29 Aug 1992 in Cedar Rapids. Curtis graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a baccalaureate in Marketing and is employed in management at the Quaker Oats Company in Cedar Rapids.

Anne Martha was born at Postville, IA. Anne graduated from South Winneshiek High School in Calmar and received a baccalaureate in Art and Design from Iowa State University, Ames, IA. After employment in Des Moines and Minneapolis and additional course work in design Anne has returned to university course work to become an elementary teacher. Currently Anne is pursuing teaching course work and additional preparation in special education at the University of Hawaii. Anne’s fiance, Dan Rouse, also a graduate of Iowa State University, is stationed in Hawaii as an officer in the U.S. Army.

Meyer, Orville V. and Ora Gene (Oestmann)

Orville Victor Meyer, son of Alvin D. and Wilhelmine “Minnie" (Kuhse) Meyer, was born 4 Feb 1921 in Clayton Co., IA. They moved to Bloomfield Twp. in Winneshiek Co. when Orville was a child. He attended the Oakhill School near his home. Alvin was born 10 Jul 1893 and died 25 May 1947. Minnie was born 1 Mar 1891 and died 25 Nov 1948. Alvin and Minnie had 5 children: Willard (b. 14 Sep 1916); Arthur (b. 2 Jun 1918); Orville (b. 4 Feb 1921); Margaret; and Marie (b. 22 Jun 1932). On 25 Nov 1948 Minnie Meyer and 2 of her children, Arthur and Marie, were killed instantly in a car accident on a rural road in Bloomfield Twp.

On 12 Jun 1947 Orville married Ora Gene Oestmann at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, IA. Ora Gene was born  in Allamakee Co. to Fred and Alvina (Ihde) Oestmann. Ora Gene graduated from Postville High School in the class of 1943. She attended Luther College in the summer of 1945 and taught in rural schools in Fayette and Winneshiek Counties for 4 years.

After their marriage Orville and Ora Gene farmed on the home farm in Bloomfield Twp. until their retirement in 1980 when they moved to Postville. Orville and Ora Gene were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Orville served on the church council, as a director in Farm Bureau and in the Postville Co-op. Creamery. They were the parents of 5 children: Judy, Kathryn, Beverly, Kenneth and Keith. Orville died at his home in Postville 12 Nov 1983. Ora Gene died at the Postville Hospital 21 Jun 1989.

Judy Ann married David Geerts 20 Oct 1973. They live in North Washington, IA and have 3 children: Wendy Marie; Cindy Ann; and Cory David. Kathrvn Jo married Richard Menne 13 Nov 1971. They live near West Union and have 4 children: Jason Richard; Amy Jo; Marc Alan; and Stephanie Lyn. Beverly Jean married David Torkelson 4 May 1979. They live in Monona, IA. Her child is Anthony David Meyer. His child is Scott Alan Torkelson. * Kenneth Frederick lives in Bloomfield Twp. * Keith Alvin lives in Bloomfield Twp. (*See individual stories.)

Meyer, Peter and Alma (Hageman)

Peter Kenneth Meyer was born in IA to Kenneth Jacob and A. Loraine (Carpenter) Meyer. Kenneth was born 3 Oct 1911 in Mason City, IA and A. Lorraine was born 21 Jun 1913 in Elgin, IA. Peter has one sister Nancy Meyer Condon of Gold River, CA. Loraine died in 1978 and Kenneth married Katherine Michaels of Des Moines, IA,. Kenneth and Katherine reside in Green Valley, AZ. The Meyer family dates back to the early settlers of Calmar. (Refer to Jacob Meyer of previous Winneshiek Co. biography books, pages 401 and 613).

Alma Hageman was born at the Decorah Hospital, the youngest daughter of Ignatius F. Hageman (b. 16 Apr 1905) who lived on the family farm near the Old Military Trail near Ft. Atkinson and Elizabeth A. Kuennen (b. 20 Jan 1910) from near St. Lucas, IA in Fayette Co. Their ancestors were settlers from Germany.
