than his wife’s name, ‘Amanda”, we have no more knowledge of Michael. Margaret was born 10 Jun 1871 on the family homestead and died 25 Oct 1956 in Waterloo, IA. She married Leo Stringer. They had no children. Louis Anthony was born 26 May 1874 on the family farm which he owned in later years. He married Wilhelmena Frances Schissel 16 Jun 1896 in Fort Atkinson. Louis and Minnie had eight children (all born on the original family homestead). They lived on the family homestead until March 1911 when they moved to a farm three miles north of Fort Atkinson. Louis purchased this farm from a relative of Wilhelmena. The farm came to be known as ‘‘Spring Valley Hereford Farm" because of the excellent spring and the purebred Herefords they raised. In fact, Louis raised the first Herefords in Winneshiek Co., buying the nucleus herd from an importer, William Galloway of Waterloo. In 1930 Louis and his wife moved to Calmar where he operated a tavern until his death 14 Apr 1949. Wilhelmena died 7 Apr 1939 in Calmar ten years before her husband. Both died on Holy Thursday before Easter. They are buried in the family plot in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Fort Atkinson.

Now let us trace the family of Louis A. Meyer’s wife, Wilhelmena, or "Minnie” as she was better known. Her father was John Schissel Sr. born 2 Aug 1830 in Bavaria. Her mother was Philamena Huber born 20 Oct 1844 in Olenburg, IN. Philamena died 2 Oct 1027 at Fort Atkinson and is buried in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. John Schissel Sr.'s parents were Peter and Mary (d. 1863) Schissel.

Philamena (Huber) Schissel’s father was Frank Joseph Huber born 16 Mar 1811 in Berre, Switzerland. Frank married Mary Ann Gartner in Oct 1843. Mary Ann was born 28 Feb 1823 in Alsace-Lorraine, France. She died 23 Oct 1902 and is buried at Our Lady of Seven Dolars Catholic Cemetery, Festina, IA. An item of interest regarding Frank Joseph Huber’s coming to America in a sailing vessel in 1833. They were pursued by pirates enroute to New Orleans.
