Conrad and Catherine Kriener family

Conrad Kriener was born 17 Dec 1864 at Neuenkirchen, Westphalia, Germany, the son of Josef Kriener and Elizabeth (Tolger) Kriener,

Conrad stowed away on a ship when he was 18 and traveled to the United States. After the ship traveled a required distance at sea he joined the Conrad Boeding family, friends of the Kriener family and traveled the rest of the journey with them. They located near St. Lucas, IA. Conrad’s wife Catherine, the daughter of Peter and Eva Schmitt, was born 30 Oct 1859 in Rohl, Germany. They were married 18 Feb 1890 at St. Luke’s Church in St. Lucas with the Rev. F.X. Boeding officiating. They purchased land in the southwest corner of Washington Twp (the present home of Urban and Rosemary Kriener) from Francis Drilling and farmed there the rest of their lives. They were the parents of seven children: Mary died in infancy in a house fire; Mary married Casper Kruse, widowed in 1920, then married Albert Riha; Elizabeth married Joseph Hageman; Peter married Mary Kuennen; Theodore married Viola Tierney; John married Mary Hageman; Joseph married Julie Kuennen; and Chris married Cecilia Kruse. Conrad died 12 Jan 1944 and Catherine died 28 Dec 1943. They are buried in St. Luke’s Cemetery, St. Lucas.

Kriener, Peter and Mary (Kuennen)

Peter Kriener, son of Conrad and Catherine Kriener, was born 1 Jun 1895 in Washington Twp, Winneshiek Co, IA. Peter’s wife, Mary Kuennen, the daughter of Henry and Mary Kuennen was born 6 Feb 1900 on a farm south of St. Lucas, in Fayette Co, IA (now the Martin and Carol Kuennen farm). Peter and Mary both received their education in St. Luke’s Catholic school in St. Lucas.

They were married in St. Luke’s by Rev. F.X. Boeding 6 Jun 1920. They purchased a farm north of Peter’s parental home. They were industrious farmers and acquired a substantial acreage by the time of their retirement. They were the parents of 12 children: Cvril married Anastasia Herold - parents of Margaret Woodruff and Martin: Ignatius married Pauline Busta - parents of Robert, Ronald, Joan Driscoll, Loren, Mary and James: Eleanor married Rueben Mracek - parents of Gary, Kevin, Mary Beth Scholborg, Ann Langlinais and Mark; Francis: Linus: Anita married Godlove Busta - parents of Jeanne Luzum, David, Susan Fisher, Karen Humpal, Steven and Brian; Herman married Greta Klimesh - parents of Carol Kreter, Beverly Myer, Allan died at age 3, Donald, Larry, Dale and Kathy Hauchild; Leo married Rosemary Herold - parents of Anne Blocker, Evelyn Milbrandt, Linda Jones, Richard, Arnold and Joseph; Peter married Diane Soukup - parents of Debbie Langreck, Arlen, Peter, Jeremy, Annette who died at 10 months, Denise and Sarah; Conrad married Kathleen Wenthold - parents of Duane, Kristine Kulish, Colleen, Cheryl Ludeking, Susan and Curt; Jerome married Madonna Hackman - parents of Rose Wander, Paul, Sharon Elsbernd, Tommy and Janice; and Lawrence who died at 15 months.

Peter Kriener died 14 Mar 1974 and Mary died 1 Apr 1982. They are both buried in St. Luke’s Cemetery, St. Lucas.

Krumm, Johann Gottlob and Regina (Fischer)

The first Johann Gottlob Krumm was born in 1791 and died in 1864 in Germany. He married Judith Eberlen (1791-1868). Their son, also named Johann Gottlob was born in Neurtingen, Germany 6 Nov 1817. On 26 Jan 1845, he married Regina Fischer who was born in Holzmaden,
