Robert Joseph Kovarik was born 23 Feb 1918 on a farm near Protivin, IA. His father Adolph Kovarik was born 16 Feb 1896 and his mother Albina (Koudelka) Kovarik was born 1 Apr 1895 also on a farm near Protivin and were married in Jun 1917 at Holy Trinity Church. Robert’s brother, Paul Kovarik was born 4 Feb 1928 on a farm near Protivin. Robert married Helen Bessie Taylor, 25 Nov 1940 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Spillville, IA. Helen was born 23 Feb 1918 on a farm near Lawler, IA. Her parents were Adolph Taylor and Rose (Landa) Taylor. Adolph was born 7 Mar 1890 on a farm near Spillville. Rose was born 20 Mar 1894 near Little Turkey, IA. Helen had one sister, Viola, who was born 15 Sep 1914 on a farm near Lawler.

Children of Robert and Helen Kovarik are: Catherine (b. at Decorah) went to Holy Trinity Catholic school in Protivin and married Don Landa 24 Sep 1966 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Spillville. Catherine worked in a motel for many years. Their children are, Jean and Jeffrey. Jean was born in Cedar Rapids, IA. and married Greg Ewart of Arizona. They live in Hawaii with their children: Greg Jr., Alex and Samantha. Jeffrey was born in Dubuque, IA. He married Lori Hilton. They live in Texas.

Rosemary (b. in Decorah) went to the Catholic schools in Protivin and Spillville and also attended South Winneshiek High School and U.N.I. in Cedar Falls, IA. She taught grade school for many years in Waterloo, IA. She married Bill Clausman 6 Jun 1970 at St. Wenceslaus Church. Their children are: Michael, Sara and Katie. They were all born in Waterloo.

Ronald (b. at Decorah) went to the Catholic school in Spillville and to South Winneshiek High School in Calmar, IA. He married Nancy Nienhaus 14 Jul 1979 at St. John Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson. Their children are: Roman, Wayne and Maria. They live on a farm near Spillville.

Robert and Helen Kovarik are members of St. Wenceslaus Church in Spillville. They lived on a farm raising hogs, cows and chickens until retiring and moving to Spillville in 1980. Their son, Ronald, took over the farm in 1980.

Kregel, Ron and Beth (Womeldorf)

Beth Ellen Womeldorf was born in Decorah, the daughter of Erlin and Lilly Womeldorf. She joined brother Roger and sister Joan. Beth attended Decorah Public Schools, graduating from high school in 1985. Beth went out for basketball in junior high school and was a very good player, but decided to be a cross country runner in high school. She enjoyed running, and continues to do so to the present. She also took piano and violin lessons, but did not view herself as a musician like her sister. She still likes to sing, and uses her talent in church choir. Beth attended Luther College, and graduated cum laude in 1989 with majors in sociology and psychology.

Beth began her work career at Wyalusing Academy in Prairie du Chien, Wl in Aug 1989. She stayed there a little over a year until she began working at Scenic Acres, rural St. Olaf, IA in the fall of 1990. She began working part time in case management for Allamakee Co. Waukon, IA in Aug 1995, along with her full time job at Scenic Acres, until the Allamakee Co position became full time in Nov 1995.

Beth married Ron Kregel 7 Apr 1990 at Decorah Lutheran Church. Ron works out of Elkader, IA for Farm Service. They lived in St. Olaf until they bought an acreage in rural Elkader.

Their children are: Kayla Marie and Kyle Alexander.
