area where they farmed for several years and for two years at West Union. In 1943 they bought the Steinar Lee farm in Springfield Twp where she lived until she was married. She attended the Knutson rural school through eighth grade and graduated from Calmar High School.

On 28 Mar 1951, Kenneth and Christine were married by Rev. Lunde at Springfield Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. They became the parents of six children: Sherry L was married to R. Bradford Chapman and they were the parents of a son, Kamon Shane. This marriage ended in divorce. In 1975 she married Leon Bachelder. They were the parents of two sons, Kelly Jon ) and Korey Lee. They lived with their sons at Postville until 1991 when they moved to Decorah. They own and operate Postville Ford/Mercury and Decorah Auto Center. Their oldest son, Kamon, died in a car accident 10 Apr 1993. He is buried at the Springfield Lutheran Church Cemetery. Kim A.  married Renee Frye. They are the parents of one son, Kristopher Lee. They live at Garnavillo, IA where Kim works for Double L as a service technician and Renee works for the Peterson Group. Linda K. was born 23 Sep 1954 and died 7 Mar 1955 at the age of five and a half months. She is buried at Calmar Lutheran Cemetery. Steven J. lives on a farm near Calmar where he does salvage work and has a motorcycle repair shop in Ft. Atkinson, IA. Robvn L. was married to Neil Hageman and they became the parents of two daughters: Kaiya Lyn and Kara Leigh. Robyn and Neil were later divorced. Robyn and her girls live in Calmar and she works for Lands End in West Union, IA. Scott K is married to Theresa Day and they make their home in Ft. Atkinson. They are the parents of two sons: Zachary Scott and Tyler James. They own and operate Scott Kolaas Trucking.

Kenneth and Christine Kolaas

Ken worked at various occupations prior to being employed by the Milwaukee Railroad in 1965 as an agent/ operator working at a number of stations including those at Calmar, Postville, Charles City and Mason City, and as a crane operator at St. Paul, MN before retiring from the railroad in 1990. Chris was a homemaker while their children were quite young and later worked at Community Memorial Hospital at Postville, as a nurses’ aid for eight years, and another four years there as Director of Medical Records while completing medical record studies and passing the ART accreditation exam in 1977. In 1978 they moved to New Hampton, IA where she worked as Director of Medical Records at St. Joseph Comm. Hospital until November 1986 when she resigned to take a position as a tumor registrar with the State Health Registry of Iowa. She worked there until August 1994 when she was unable to continue due to injuries received in an automobile accident the previous year.

Ken and Chris have lived in various cities including, Decorah, Calmar, Postville and New Hampton. In 1991 they bought the Virgil Huber home in Ft. Atkinson where they are enjoying their children, grandchildren, doing some traveling, fishing and various hobbies in their retirement. They are members of Springfield Lutheran Church.

Kolaas, Martin and Ottielia (Sydow)

Martin Kolaas married Ottielia Sydow 4 Jan 1901 in Austin, MN. Ottielia was born 19 Jul 1881 in Conover, IA. She was the daughter of Charles F. and Mary A. (Klein) Sydow. She worked as a teacher before her marriage. Martin H. Kolaas was born in Conover. His parents were John and Martha Kolaas, originally from Norway. Martin's parents lived in Calmar Twp with four of their nine children in 1900. Martin and Ottielia moved to Colton, SD in 1901, where he managed the Colton Mercantile Co. Martin and Ottielia moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1914.

They had six children: Maxine Joan, Bryhilda Arabella, Freda Virginia, Joy, Ursula and Carl. Joy Kolaas married William R. Daubenberger. They had one son named William Martin.

Ottielia died 28 Jul 1955. Martin died 26 Apr 1962 in Sioux Falls.

Korsen, Ole and Johanne (Johannesdtr) and Julia (Grinstad)

Ole Jacob Korsen was born 26 Jul 1842 at Korsen near Eina, Vestre Toten, Oppland, Norway. He was the second of six children born to Johannes Olsen Korsen and Marte Pedersdtr Lieseie. All siblings were born at Korsen. Brothers Niels L. Korsen and Johan Helmer Johnson along with a sister Helena Maria (Johannes Graasten) emigrated to America. A brother, Peder, remained at the farm in Norway and his great grandson, Ole Pedersen Korsen, now lives there and works the land. Ole’s parents were farm workers (husmann) living at Korsen which in early years was a part of the Vestre Toten Prestegaard, West Toten parish farm. Ole Jacob moved to Christiania (Oslo) in 1864 and then returned to Korsen in 1865. The date he left Norway is not known.
