making the fashionable hats worn by ladies in the 1920’s, sewed for her family and others and for many years was a telephone operator. After her retirement, she wove over 1,000 rugs on her loom. Ed's ancestors were from the Oestfriesland, Germany and Groningen, Holland areas and Flo's grandparents came from Wales and the South Bavaria and Mecklinburg areas of Germany.

Edward was the oldest of five children: Edward,  Harlan (1925-1990); Vernon, Iva Dean Weckerly  and Dorothy Westerman.

Florence was the youngest of seven children, 2 died in infancy: Victor (1908-1981); Dorothy Schmidt (b. 1910); Maloy (1913-1977); Clarion Mueller (1916-1994); and Florence Klosterboer.

Edward and Florence's children are: Pastor James Klosterboer. Elkader - B.A. Luther College and Ministerial Division, Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN: married 3 Aug 1974 Laurel Pautsch - B.A. Concordia College, St. Paul and B.A. Luther College. Their children: Jesse and Sara.

Lisa Klosterboer. Boston. MA (b. 16 Apr 1962) - B.S.N. University of Iowa, Iowa City.

John Klosterboer. Decorah - B.A. University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, married 17 Aug 1985 Jana Oebser - B.A. University of Northern Iowa. Their children: Zoe and Eli.

Kneeskern, Eli Leroy Alan and Daisy (Chewing)

Eli Leroy (Roy) Kneeskern, son of James G. and Angenette (Allen) Kneeskern, was born 14 Dec 1881 in Frankville Twp, Winneshiek Co, IA. He married Daisy Chewing. They were the parents of two children: Dean Charles (b. 10 Apr 1909) and Dorothy Adelaide.

Dean C. Kneeskern married Elsie Schultz 23 May 1929. Elsie, daughter of Henry Schultz, Sr., and Alvina (Warnholtz) Schultz, was born 18 Jul 1908. She graduated from normal school and high school at Postville, IA. She taught school for three years. The couple lived in Frankville for 7 years, where Elsie was the telephone operator. Dean was a livestock buyer for Hormel Packing Co. for a period of 30 years, the family living in Calmar and Des Moines, IA and Preston, MN.

They were the parents of three children: Cloy married Laurice Peterson 14 Oct 1950. Cloy worked for Hormel and later owned and operated a restaurant in Audubon, IA. They are the parents of Gary, Sherry, Dave, Sandra, Beth and Mark. They are now retired and living in Preston. MN. JoAnn married Lyle Miller 19 May 1957. They live in Preston. Their children are: Barbara, Kathy and James. Wayne married Gertrude Wolfs 6 May 1967. Their children are: Scott and Michelle.

Dorothy Adelaide Kneeskern married Daniel Russett. Daniel, son of Ole and Agatha (Sjoboen) Russett, was born in Winneshiek Co. Daniel and Dorothy were the parents of 9 children: Randall Dean, Alan Leroy, Janice,

Delores Grace and Donald Cleone (twins), Keith, Marilyn, Beverly and Kathleen.

Leroy Kneeskern died 25 Apr 1965. Daisy died 14 Oct 1969.

Kneeskern, James G. and Angenette (Allen)

James G. Kneeskern was born 14 Jun 1855 in Oswego Co. NY In 1861 he came to Winneshiek Co with his parents, Aaron and Lavina (Peck) Kneeskern. James had four sisters: Wilda, Addie, Myra and Ellen (Ella). James married Angenette Allen, daughter of Stephen and Marietta (Cole) Allen. She was born 24 Mar 1859. In the 1860 census of Winneshiek Co, James was listed as a farmer living in Section 15, SE/NW Bloomfield Twp.

James G. and Angenette were the parents of 7 children: Fred (died at the age of 10 months); William Leroy; Katherine; Ruby (m. Dean Flowers); Eli Leroy Alan; Ida L. (m. Tom Bollman) and James E.

Mr. and Mrs. James G. Kneeskern celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary 20 Mar 1926. He died on 15 Aug 1932 and Angenette died 5 Feb 1928. Both are buried in Frankville, IA.

Kneeskern, John Henry and Ellen (Kneeskern)

John Henry Kneeskern, son of William Henry and Lucy (Wilson) Kneeskern, was born 12 Feb 1859 in Winneshiek Co. IA. His father. William Henry was born in New York 27 May 1827. He was descended from the "Kniskern" family who were among the Palatines from Southern Germany and settled in about 1710 near the Hudson River in New York. The first “Kniskerns" lived in one of the Seven Dorfs of Schohaire Co, NY

William Henry was one of 12 children. His siblings were: Elizabeth, Margaret, Nancy, Mary Ann, Mathias, Eve Ann, Caterine, Julia, Peter, Lucy Ann and Aaron. William Henry died 14 Oct 1892 in Frankville, IA. His wife, Lucy was born 13 Mar 1824 in St. Lawrence Co. NY and died 14 Oct 1914

William Henry and Lucy were the parents of 9 children: Cecelia Pentecost; William (m. Myra Peck); Peter (m. Addie Decker); Elma Crabtree; Nancy Beadle; George (m. Maude Scofield); Addie Wilson; Myra Schoonmaker; and John Henry (m. Ellen (Ella) Kneeskern 3 May 1879). Ellen, the daughter of Aaron and Lavina (Peck) Kneeskern was born 19 Nov 1859. Ellen died 1 Apr 1906. The Kneeskern home burned to the ground 23 Mar 1906, and during the excitement, Ellen became paralyzed which resulted in her death.

John Henry and Ellen were the parents of 7 children Frank (m. Alta Sphar); Mary; Lelah; Ethel; Pearl: Carrie Allen; and Fred (m. Estella Beadle).

John Kneeskern married Kate (Kobriger) Frey. He was a well known cattle buyer in Castalia, IA, a profession at which he gained financial respect. He died 4 Oct 1931.
