Marvin farmed in the Decorah area and then was janitor at Big Canoe Lutheran Church. After retirement he moved to Decorah. Martha died in 1961 and Marvin in 1962. They are buried at Big Canoe Cemetery.

Merton Arvid Iverson was born on a farm in Pleasant Twp., Winneshiek Co., IA the son of Olaf Alfred and Elma Josephine (Tweet) Iverson. Merton attended the rural Sattre school in Winn. Co. and one year of high school in Decorah. When his parents purchased the Stephen Iverson farm in Hanover Twp., Allamakee Co. he continued his education in Waukon graduating in 1940.

Merton joined the Navy in Oct 1940. When Pearl Harbor was bombed he was stationed at Bar Harbor, Maine aboard the U.S.S. Texas. They were the first ship to leave the harbor to go to the war zone. He served 6 years in the Navy and later was recalled to serve in the Korean conflict.

On 18 Jun 1948 Merton married Marcella Evelyn Gilbertson at the Old West Paint Creek Church east of Waukon. Marcella was born 26 May 1928 near Lansing, IA the daughter of Paul Hagbert and H. Luella (Johnson) Gilbertson. She attended rural Center No. 3 school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1946. Paul Gilbertson (b. 6 Nov 1901, Makee Twp., Allamakee Co.) was the son of Peter and Hannah (Bakkum) Gilbertson. Luella (b. 25 Mar 1906 near Lansing) was the daughter of John and Marie (Berg) Johnson. Paul and Luella were married 10 Nov 1926 at Waterville, IA by Rev. Wareburg. In 1932 they moved to the farm in Makee Twp. where Paul was born. They farmed until 1963 when they moved to Waukon. Paul died 21 May 1976 and Luella died 12 Jan 1990. They are buried at the Old West Paint Creek Cemetery.

Marcella's maternal great-grandparents, Nils and Bertha (Mikkelstuen) Berg were born in Nordre Oppland, Norway. Her maternal grandfather, John (Langengen) Johnson was born 2 Oct 1866 in Nordre Oppland, Norway. He came to America in 1884 where he worked for farmers to pay for his fare. John married Marie Berg 7 Mar 1892. She was born 18 Feb 1873 near Lansing. They lived in Brookings, SD for 3 years before returning to Faegre Prairie, Allamakee Co. where they farmed. John died 28 Jul 1940 and Marie died 14 May 1946. They are buried at the Faegre Prairie Cemetery, rural Lansing.

Marcella’s paternal grandfather, Peter A. Gilbertson, was born in Nordre Oppland, Norway 2 Nov 1894, and emigrated to America with his parents, Anton and Agnette (Vaslien) Nystuen when he was 9 years old. Her paternal grandmother Hannah Mathea Andreasdtr. Bakkum was born in Center Twp..Allamakee, Co 19 Aug 1870. Peter and Hannah were married 2 Nov 1894. They purchased 80 acres in Makee Twp. and later added 40 more acres. They farmed until 1924 when they moved to Waukon. Peter died 14 Mar 1934 and Hannah died 11 May 1954. They are buried at the Old West Paint Creek Cemetery.

After Marcella and Merton were married, they lived in St. Louis, MO where Mert attended Ranken Trade School for 3 years. They moved to Decorah in 1952. Merton worked for Vick’s Plumbing and Heating for 5 years, and for the Des Moines Register and Tribune setting up mail routes and securing drivers for 5 years. In Jan 1960 he started the Iverson Window and Awning business in Decorah which he has operated for 36 years. Merton has served as an official for baseball, softball and volleyball for 21 years.

Marcella was employed as secretary at the Allamakee Co. Farm Bureau, the Army Finance in St. Louis, Farm Bureau Insurance Office in Waukon and then Secretary at Decorah Lutheran Church for 24 years before retiring in 1993.

The Iversons are the parents of 3 children: Larry, Marilyn and Randy.

Larry Wayne lives at Edmond, OK where he is the engineer for KCSC radio station at the University of Central Oklahoma. He also builds and sells computers under the name of Pyramid Systems. Marilyn Doreen married Kevin Jay Klooster 22 Dec 1978. Kevin is the son of Herman and Henrietta (Miller) Klooster of Aplington, IA. Marilyn and Kevin farm near Aplington where she teaches elementary school. They have 3 children: Kirk Michael ; Kent Ryan and Courtney Ann. Randy Eugene married Catherine Sanders 3 Aug 1979. They are parents of 2 children: Adam Christopher and Sarah Nicole . They are divorced. Randy then married Kari Lynn Waarvik, daughter of Thomas and Marilyn (Olson) Waarvik of Faribault, MN 25 Mar 1994. They have one daughter: Jenna Lynn. Randy teaches Science and coaches at the Middle School in Decorah. Kari is employed at the County Treasurer's Office.
