mother died when he was 2. His grandmother Ann Eliza Green helped care for him and his sister Ruth May. Clarence received his elementary education at the Oak Hill School south of the farm and graduated from Postville High School in 1927.

On 17 Jun 1937 Clarence married Helen Koth at the Little Brown Church in Nashau, IA. Helen was the daughter of Ross and Altha (Lenth) Koth. Clarence and Helen became the parents of 4 children: Beverly Ann, Mary Ellen, Robert (15 Feb 1944-16 Nov 1949) and Dale. Beverly married Gerald Schrandt in 1967. They have 3 daughters: Michelle, Julie and Nicole. Mary Ellen married Leonard Althouse in 1962. They have 2 sons and 1 daughter: Stephen, Randy and Debra. Robert died of leukemia when he was 5. Dale married Karen Hansen 4 Aug 1968. They have 5 daughters: Jody, Lori, Stacy, Jeni and Wendy.

Clarence and Helen purchased “Spring Valley Farm" from his father in 1937. In 1950 Clarence and his father became partners in the operation of “Green's Sugar Bush". With the help of their families they built a cabin (1955); a new evaporator and storage system (1958); and a pond (1966) at the “Bush”. When his father died in 1961, Clarence purchased “The Ranch Farm” (the former Kneeskern farm) south of "Spring Valley Farm" from his father's estate.

Clarence was active in a number of community activities, including 4-H; election board; school board; cemetery association; Farm Bureau; Big 4 Fair, Postville; and president of the Farmers Coop, Postville. He was a charter member of the Bloomfield Historical Society.

Clarence died of a heart attack 17 Aug 1966. He is buried at Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Castalia - near his son Robert.

With the help of her family and neighbors, Helen continued to operate the farm and Sugar Bush until Dale graduated from Iowa State University Arnes. Dale returned to the farm and was married in 1968. Helen then moved to “The Ranch Farm”. In 1973 Helen sold “Spring Valley Farm" (a century farm) and Green’s Sugar Bush to Dale and his wife Karen.

Helen worked at the Extension Service in Decorah for 12 years. She retired in 1982 after spending 32 years being involved in 4-H work.

Helen purchased a home in Postville in 1992 and now makes her home there.

Dale Green is the son of Clarence and Helen (Koth) Green. Dale grew up on the family farm in Sec. 12, Bloomfield Twp., Winneshiek Co. The farm had been settled in 1850 by Dale’s great-great-grandfa-ther Gideon Green. It is known as the “Spring Valley Farm”. Dale received his elementary education at the Oak Hill school in Bloomfield Twp. He is a graduate of Postville Community High School and Iowa State University in Ames.

On 4 Aug 1968 Dale married Karen Hansen. Karen is the daughter of Arnold and Erma Hansen. She received her education in the Anita, IA area and went on to graduate from the State College of Iowa (now the University of Northern Iowa), Cedar Falls. Karen taught history at the Postville Community High School.

Dale and Karen have 5 daughters: Jody, Lori, Stacy, Jeni and Wendy. Jody married Craig Sunken 8 Jul 1990 at the Presbyterian Church, Postville. Craig and Jody live in Chicago, IL. Lori lives in Fredericksburg, IA. She married Jeff Ameling 17 Sep 1994 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Postville. Stacy married Mark Stock 30 Oct 1993. Stacy and Mark live in Waukon.

Dale and Karen purchased “Spring Valley Farm" and “Green’s Sugar Bush" from his mother Helen in 1973. Both are involved in various community activities, including: 4-H; Big 4 Fair, Postville; Postville Coop; and the Winneshiek County Saddle Club. They raise Angus, Saler and Gelbvieh cattle and have a trophy and engraving business they operate from the farm. Dale and Karen continue to operate “Green’s Sugar Bush" with the help of their daughters, sons-in-law and friends. They are the fifth and sixth generations of the Green/Allen family to carry on the tradition of tapping the maple trees and making maple syrup.

Dennis Donald Green was born in Decorah, IA24 Nov 1942, the second son of Roy Herbert and Evelyn (Haugen) Green. Roy was born 21 Oct 1916 and Evelyn was born 7 Jul 1920, both in Decorah. Dennis has a brother Richard and a sister Nancy (m. Juve) who also live in Decorah.

Dennis was blessed by his marriage to Ruth Marie Magelssen who was born in Albert Lea, MN. She is the oldest child of Johannes and Dorothy (Johnsrud) Magelssen. Her father was born in Alpena, MI. Her mother was born in Albert Lea
