1868 and died 13 Feb 1943. Anton and Lisa are buried in the Madison Lutheran Church Cemetery. Anton’s parents were Ole Iverson and Aase Bothelson (Hellen) Dahle. Ole was born in 1830 in Vik, Norway and died Sep 1867 (37 years old). Ole and Aase emigrated to the United States in 1856 and purchased a farm in Madison Twp. Aase was born 24 Jul 1828 in Vik, Norway and died 6 Mar 1911. After Ole died Aase married Jens Fretheim and farmed in Madison Twp. Jens was born in 1827 and died in 1892. Ole, Aase and Jens are buried in the Void Cemetery east of the Madison church. Aase and Jens had one son, Henry James Fretheim, born 1 Aug 1872. Anton’s brothers were: Ole (b. 1859), Iver (1860-1894), John (1863-1938), and half-brother Henry Jens Fretheim.

Anton and Lisa were married 21 Mar 1895 in Madison Twp. They purchased a farm in Madison Twp. Arthur’s brothers and sisters were: Olaf (the first born, died in 1896 when he was a month old); Odin (14 May 1897-1 Dec 1987); Elmer (4 Oct 1989-23 Oct 1941); Idella (27 May 1904-20 Oct 1972) married a Jordahl; Lawrence (23 Aug 1906-27 Mar 1973); and Julia (b. 6 Oct 1909) married Ed Shima and presently lives in Decorah.

Arthur Dahl and Alice Thompson

Alice Elene Thompson was born 19 Aug 1909 in Madison Twp, the daughter of Gilbert Theodore and Emma Allett Thompson. Her father was born 25 Jan 1884 in Madison Twp, the son of Ole and Elene (Lillemoen) Thompson. Ole was born 27 Sep 1859 and died in 1911. Elene was born 13 Jul 1864 and died in 1888. Ole and Elene are buried in the Madison Lutheran Church Cemetery. After Elene died Ole married Christina Lundy (b. 1875) from Madison Twp. Christina is buried in the Madison Lutheran Church Cemetery. They farmed in Madison Twp. They were members of the Lutheran church. Her father’s brothers and sisters were: Elmer; Oscar; half-sister Catherine (m. Leonard Hegtvedt) of Prosper, MN; half-sister Esther (m. Earl Ryggs) of Milwaukee, Wl; and half-brother Orlando, also of Milwaukee. Alice’s mother, Emma was born 10 Mar 1884 in Calmar, IA and died 28 Feb 1977. Emma was the daughter of Andrew and Aagot Olsdtr Kittelson Severson. Aagot was born 15 Sep 1856 in Telemark, Norway. Archives in Oslo, Norway, Aagot emigrated to America when she was two years old. On 22 May 1877 Aagot married Andrew Severson Haukedal at the Lutheran church in Ridgeway, IA. They farmed near Ridgeway and after a few years moved to South Dakota. Aagot and Andrew are buried in Summit, SD. Emma's brothers and sisters were: Sevart, Thea, Amanda, Theodore, Oscar, Alma, Chris, Ed and Olaf. Gilbert Thompson and Emma Severson were married on 14 Feb 1907 in Decorah, IA. They farmed in Madison Twp and were members of the Madison Lutheran Church. Gilbert and Emma are buried in the Madison Cemetery. Alice has two sisters: Olga (m. Arthur Young) born 25 Feb 1911 and died 6 Apr 1971 in Madison Twp and Gladys (m. Morris Engen) born 5 May 1915 in Madison Twp and presently lives in Waukon, IA.

Arthur Lloyd Dahle and Alice Elene Thompson were reared and educated in Madison Twp. After Arthur completed the course in the district schools, he attended and graduated from Valder's Business College. Arthur married Alice on 26 Dec 1929 at the Madison Lutheran Church parsonage. They had one daughter, Lila Elaine Dahle, born in Decorah. Arthur and Alice lived on the Anton Dahle farm in Madison Twp and purchased the 240 acre farm from his father. They were active members of Madison Lutheran Church. After Arthur died in 1945, Alice had renters on the farm until 1952. In 1952 she sold the farm to a neighbor. In 1945 Alice and Lila had moved to Decorah. Alice worked in various restaurants as a cook and for eight years as a baker at Luther College. In 1960 Alice moved to Edina, MN and lived with her daughter, Lila, and son-in-law, Darrell Kuntz to take care of her granddaughter, Barbara, while both parents worked. In 1973 Alice returned to Decorah and now resides in an apartment.

Lila Elaine Dahle was raised and educated in the Madison Twp elementary schools. She graduated from Decorah High School and continued her education at Luther College graduating with a B.A. degree in Business, Education, Norwegian and Social Studies. Lila has been a high school teacher since she graduated from college and presently is teaching at Jefferson High School in Bloomington, MN. She has been a teacher in Minnesota for 37 1/2 years. Lila married Darrell Kuntz in 1959 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. He was controller for Boise Cascade Corp. in Roseville, MN. Darrell and Lila were residents of Edina and were members of Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina. They have one daughter, Barbara Lynn. Barbara, her mother Lila and Barbara’s great-great-great grandmother Elene Thompson have the same birthday - 13 July. Darrell and Lila were divorced in Nov 1979. Lila is living in the same house in Edina and continues to be a member of Normandale Lutheran Church.

Barbara Lynn Kuntz was raised and educated in Edina and graduated from Edina West High Scholl. She graduated from St. Olaf College in 1982 with a B.A. degree in Economics. Barbara has worked for Ford Motor Credit and currently Primus Automotive Financial Corp. (a division of Ford Motor Credit). Barbara lives in an apartment in St. Louis Park, MN.
