Casterton, Bernard and Martha (Hovey)

(Myrtle Noecker)

Bernard Wayne Casterton was born at the Casterton farm, with Dr. Lanin of Mabel, MN attending. Edna, the oldest child, had been put in charge of her siblings and undoubtedly was told she must keep everyone upstairs. When almost asleep, Myrtle said “Edna, I think I heard a baby cry". Edna told Myrtle it was just a little pig. It was, indeed, a baby brother!

Bernard attended school at Highland #2 and was a member of the Highland Church. He was fortunate in having a school bus to ride to Decorah High School; but as is true of so many students, he preferred a private vehicle. He worked at the Texaco Station and Garage and stayed part time with his sister, Myrtle, and her family at 1015 South River Street.

Bernard married Martha Hovey 4 Jun 1955. They lived at 309 First Street in Decorah before moving to Martha’s home farm near Decorah in 1957 where they still reside.

Bernard and Martha had 4 children: Charles Bernard; Stephen Neil; Judith Lynn; and Paul Hovey.

Bernard has been a representative for Pioneer International Seed Company since 1963 and enjoys working with his many good customers. Bernard and Martha purchased Noecker’s Jewelry 1 Apr 1983 from Bernard's sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Melvin Noecker. Martha operates the business, known as M. G. Jewelry.

Charles owns and operates the Decorah Furniture Store. He has 2 children: Justin Josiah and Kelly Ann.

Stephen is the owner and operator of the Mane Event Hairstyling Salon in Decorah.
