Vera Emma was born 25 Mar 1900. She attended school at Orleans #3 and married John Albert Walton 23 Mar 1921. They had 3 children: Robert John, Francis Earl and Emma Jean. They farmed east of Cresco for many years on the old Walton farm. Later they moved to Lyle, MN and then back to Cresco. Vera did painting and papering for many years as long as she was able. Vera married Dana Edward Price 7 Nov 1947. They had no children. Dana was a retired Navy man. John died 29 Dec 1952 at the home of his son Robert in Lime Springs, IA and is buried in New Oregon Cemetery, Cresco, IA. Dana died 23 Jan 1975 and Vera died 19 Dec 1991 at Cresco Care Center, Cresco. Both are buried at Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, IA.

Charles James was born 3 Aug 1902. He attended Orleans #3 school and married Ida Elizabeth Wenthold 9 Nov 1926 at St. Joseph Church, Cresco with Rev. J. R Wagener officiating. They had 11 children: Corrine Delores, Alta Jean, Dorothy Bernadette, Alice May, Helen Eileen, Rosemary Louise, Charlene Doris, Emma Jean, Kenneth James, Charles George and Charlotte Georgina (twins). Charles James died 13 Jun 1975 at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, MN. Ida died 2 Jun 1993 at Howard Co. Hospital, Cresco. Both are buried at Calvary Cemetery, Cresco. Charles James was known as Charley. Charley and Ida farmed 5 miles east of Cresco. Times during their married life were tough. The depression hit them hard. Their 1 1/2 year old daughter Alta Jean died in Feb 1930. In Oct 1954 Charley had a fall off a corn picker wagon and suffered a broken neck. He was paralysed from his waist down until the time of his death 13 Jun 1975. He was in St. Marys Hospital for 6 months after the accident and Ida stayed with him all the time. She didn’t go home until he could return with her. Charley was confined to a wheel chair for the rest of his life. Ida, with the help of her two sons Kenneth and Charles, cared for him at home for 21 years. After Charley died Ida bought a small home close to St. Joseph Church in Cresco. On 14 Aug 1982 a daughter Rosemary died of cancer and 31 Oct 1985 a daughter Helen died of cancer. April of 1988 Ida entered Evans Memorial Home and was cared for there until her death 2 Jun 1993. Charley and Ida had many good times with neighborhood parties. They loved to dance. They raised a big family despite hard times.

Ellen Mary was born 5 Jul 1904. She attended grade school at Orleans #3 and later high school in Cresco. She married Thomas William Daly 25 Jun 1930. They had 6 children: Mary Ellen, John Tom, David George, James Dean, Robert John and Steven Paul. Thomas died 1 Mar 1980 and is buried at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cresco. Thomas was a plumber and owned and operated Daly Heating and Plumbing. Ellen helped out in the office for many years until her son James took over the business. Ellen still lives in her own home and rents out apartments in her large family home.

John Richard was born 21 Mar 1906. He attended grade school at Orleans #3 and later high school in Cresco. He married Bernetta Kathryn Kapler 24 Dec 1934. They had 2 children: Donald Roger and Sonia Mae. John died 21 Aug 1980 of emphysema and is buried at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cresco. Bernetta married William C. Lachmich. He died 16 Sep 1992 and is buried in Mesa City Cemetery, Mesa, AZ. Bernetta continues to live in the home she and John retired to when they moved off the Burgess family farm some years ago.

The fifth child of James and Emma died at birth 27 Feb 1909.

Cathern Pearl was born 15 Apr 1910. She attended grade school at Orleans #3 and later high school in Cresco. She married Maurice John Williams 23 Aug 1934. They had 6 children: Maurice Jack, Marian Kay, Jane and Janet (twins) and two that died at birth. Maurice started his teaching career in Lake City, IA. From 1934-1942 he and Cathern managed the Wykoff, MN Produce and Hatchery business. He taught radio mechanics electrical fundamentals at the Army Air Forces Technical School in Sioux Falls, SD from 1942-1945. Returning to his boyhood home in Lime Springs in 1945 Maurice was superintendent at Chester Public School until 1954. After being principal in New Hartford, St. Ansgar and West Branch, he returned to the classroom full time in Riceville in 1961, retiring in 1972. Maurice died 27 Jun 1985 at the Evans Memorial Home and is buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lime Springs, IA. Cathern has been a resident at the Evans Memorial Home for many years.

Clifford Lester was born 25 Jul 1912. He attended grade school at Orleans #3 and later high school in Cresco. He married Edith lone Shuttleworth 27 Mar 1937. They had 5 children: Diana Delores, Edith Rosalie, George, Thomas and Richard. Clifford and Edith farmed about 1 1/2 miles east of Cresco along Hwy 9. They had a fine dairy herd for many years. They retired and built a new home across the road from their farm. Their son Richard continued with the dairy farm. Later Clifford and Edith entered Evans Memorial Home together. On 24 Aug 1995 Edith died and is buried at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cresco. Clifford still lives at the Evans Home.
