James and Jane are members of Decorah Lutheran Church, Oneota Golf and Country Club, RC 10 Racquet Club and Decorah Ski Association.

James has practiced Family Medicine in Decorah his entire career following his graduation from University of IA Medical School, Internship at Harper Hospital in Detroit, and 2 years in the Army stationed in Erlangen, Germany. Jane’s only career following her graduation from the University of IA was caring for her family and doing a great deal of volunteer work for the community. Both Jane and James enjoy biking, golf, skiing, hiking and photography. During earlier years they also played hand-ball, racquet ball, tennis and enjoyed running. Many family vacations were backpacking trips in the mountains of the western United States and Canada and downhil skiing in the Rocky Mountains. The entire family were members of

the National Ski Patrol for several years. Presently they are all again returning to the mountains for vacations because they have a townhouse in Steamboat Springs, CO.

Burch, Donald and Patricia (Murphy)

Patricia Mary Murphy was born to William and Ruby Murphy of Ossian, IA. She attended St. Francis DeSales grade school and graduated from DeSales High School in 1946. She worked for Northwestern Bell until her marriage. She married Donald P Burch 12 Sep 1953 at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church. They lived in Minnesota and California until their retirement in Ossian.

Donald and Patricia have 4 children: Kevin, Stephen, Elizabeth and Susan.

Kevin and Cheryl (Porter) Burch live in Westlake Village, CA. They have a daughter Rachel.

Stephen and Marilyn (Gypson) Burch live in Westlake Village, Ca. Their children are Jamie, Melissa and Danielle.

Elizabeth Ann married Linus Kuhn at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian, IA 20 Aug 1988. They are the parents of Katie and Bryan.

Susan Marie married Robert Novak at St. Francis DeSales Church 11 Jul 1992.

Burgess, James and Emma (Greenslade)

(Corrine (Burgess) Arnold)

James George Burgess was born 17 Apr 1872 in Winneshiek Co., Bluffton, IA, the son of Thomas and Catrine (Gaven) Burgess. Thomas was born 1 Jun 1833 in Canada and Catrine was born 20 Jul 1831 in Elgin, Huntington Co., Quebec, Canada. They were married Nov 1858. After their marriage Thomas and Catrine moved to Michigan and in 1864 to Wisconsin. In 1866 they came to Winneshiek Co. They had 5 children: William, Melissa, Thomas A., Charles and George. Thomas died in 1915 and is buried in Bluffton Cemetery, Bluffton. Catrine died at her home in Bluffton Twp. 23 Aug 1910 after a stroke of apoplectic paralysis. The funeral services for Catrine were conducted at the Bluffton Methodist Episcopal Church 24 Aug 1910. Rev. W. M. Lemon of Decorah officiated.

James married Emma Jane Greenslade who was born 29 May 1880 to Richard and Mary Ann (Bucknell) Greenslade. Richard was born 25 Jun 1848 and Mary Ann was born 21 Aug 1853, both in London, England. They were married 4 Jul 1875. Emma's brothers and sisters were: Mary Anne, Nora Bray, Myrtle Gertrude, Elmer, John and Rupert.

James George was known as George. He and Emma farmed 4 1/2 miles east of Cresco. He owned a large wood lot close to Bluffton where lumber and fire wood was obtained for the whole family. George also owned a threshing machine and helped neighborhood farmers until his death. His son Charles took it over until other means of harvesting replaced this method. George and Emma were married 24 Nov 1897. They had 10 children all of whom were born in Orleans Twp., Winneshiek Co., IA: Vera Emma, Charles James, Ellen Mary, John Richard,
