He entered the Army in Feb 1943 and was stationed in California and later in Europe. He was with the anti-aircraft in France and Germany.

When he returned home Harris married G. Lillian J. Orvella 7 Sep 1946 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. Harris and Lillian were both baptized and confirmed at the Washington Prairie Church. They farmed in Springfield Twp. until his death of a heart attack on 13 Oct 1983.

Four children were born to the Bruvolds:

Orval Harris  married Diane Marie Markovetz of Cresco, IA 26 Sep 1970. They had 2 girls. Angela Sue was  married to Brett Carlson 14 May 1994. They live in Burnsville, MN. Sandra Kay  finished school at Hawkeye Tech as a medical technician. Orval died in a baler accident 7 Jul 1989. Paul Duane  married Susanne Skaim 21 Aug 1987 at Decorah Lutheran Church. They have 2 girls. Joni Irene and Kelsey Ann . Paul is farming the home farms in Springfield Twp., continuing the Soil Conservation programs begun by his grandfather, Helmer Orvella, and also carried on by his father, Harris Bruvold. Harlan Neil  married Jane Reinertson from Valdres, Wl 16 Aug 1980. They haved 2 children. Ryan Neil and Brianna Amber. Harlan and Jane farmed Rudolph Ode’s farm a few years and then moved to Wisconsin where he is currently manager of the Mills Fleet Farm in Marshfield. Lila Ann  married Steve Allan Smith of Decorah 15 Nov 1975 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. Steve has worked in the meat department of Fareway Stores since graduation and is now the manager of the Fareway Store in Algona. They have 3 girls. Rochelle Annette, Karissa Ann and Tiffany Amber .

Harris and Lillian have been active in many organizations. Harris was a Soil Commissioner for 20 years and when he died Lillian continued his work. Both were active in Farm Bureau. Lillian has served in WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church), been chairman of Sunday School and church circle, served on Heart Association and on county historical boards. Her main hobby is quilting. She also delivers meals to shut-ins every day from the Senior Citizen’s Meal Site. Harris was well known for his snow removal for the neighbors and church grounds.

Orval Harris Bruvold was bom  4 Apr 1948 in Decorah, IA to Harris and Lillian (Orvella) Bruvold. He was baptized 2 May 1948 and confirmed his faith 7 Jun 1962 at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. In recent years he served on the Board of Trustees as chairman, and was an usher. After severe snow storms he could be found removing snow from the church parking lot with his tractor and snow blower.

Orval graduated from Decorah High School in 1966. He married Diane Markovetz 26 Sep 1970. They had 2 daughters, Angela and Sandra. Angela Sue  married Brett Carlson 14 May 1994 and lives in Burnsville, MN. Sandra Kay was  finished school at Hawkeye Tech as a medical technician.

Orval served his country in the Navy from Sep 1967 to Nov 1968 when he received an honorable medical discharge. He worked for Farm Service from 1968-1979.
