Carol Jean Eittreim d/o Oliver and Mabel (Rohm) Eittreim. Carol attended the Decorah schools and graduated from high school in 1946. In high school she played bassoon in the band and sang in chorus. She worked at Darling’s Drug Store during her high school years. Carol graduated from Luther College in 1950 with a teaching degree. She taught one year in Cantril, lAand decided teaching was not for her. She returned to Decorah and worked at KWLC before moving to Waterloo in 1954 where she accepted a job as a copywriter for station KWWL. Later she moved to Rochester, MN and was traffic manager and wrote copy for station KROC. Next she moved to San Jose, CA where she met and eventually married Richard Brooks, a young man studying to be an architect. They were married in San Jose 22 Jul 1960. Carol and Richard have 3 children: Pamela Susan, Richard Eric and Christopher Jason.

Pamela married Dan Strauss. They live in Tustin, CA and have 2 children.Richard married Monica Richter in Germany. He now lives and works in Boca Raton, FL as a travel agent. They have one son Richard Benjamin and a new baby girl Melany. Christopher is currently working in the computer field for a company in Germany. He expects to settle in Germany.

Carol is active in several choral groups. She sings in Red Hill Lutheran choir and also in a choral group at Concordia University. She traveled to Russia in 1987 with the Wm. Hall Chorale. Carol joined her brother Orrin's choir and toured Austria with them in 1989.

Carol now works at St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange Co. where she is the Volunteer Services Assistant. She likes her job so well she sees no reason to retire.

William Herbert Brooks, Jr. was born in Aliamakee Co., IA, the son of William Herbert Brooks, Sr. and Gladys Ruby Huffman. His father was born 28 Mar 1897 and his mother was born 25 Dec 1902, both in Allamakee Co. (See William and Gladys Brooks history). William “Bill" attended grade school in Allamakee and Winneshiek Counties. He attended Decorah High School and was drafted into the Army his senior year. On 27 Jul 1943 he reported for active duty. Bill served as Sgt. and Medical Technician for the 63rd Portable Surgical Hospital. He served in New Guinea, Philippines and Japan. After his discharge 11 Feb 1946 he took the GED tests and received his diploma from Decorah High School. William’s brother and sisters are: Delmar Arden (m. Marcella Thayer and Sarah Duff); Dorothy Hazel (m. Ralph Nelson); Dolores Mae (m. Arnold Rohm); and Joyce Lorene (m. James Whalen).

Bill married Dorothy Mae Vick Brown 28 Aug 1949 in Decorah. Dorothy was born in Winneshiek Co., the daughter of Elmer Vick and Emma J.(Brynsaas) Vick. She attended grade school in Winneshiek Co. and graduated in 1949 from Decorah High School. Dorothy's brothers and sisters are: Harriet Clarice Vick Brown (m. Lester Leidahl); Harris Emmett Vick Brown (m. Clara Jane Kennedy); Lorraine Brown (m. Elmer Severson); Shirley Ann Brown (m. Carl Schick); Sadie Alberta Brown (m. Robert Sersland); and William Robert Brown (m. Karen Elaine Grindeland).

Bill and Dorothy Brooks July 1987, Decorah, IA

Bill worked as a mechanic for several years and as a 7UP salesman for 15 years. He worked for Ray’s Tobacco 12 years and was working for Farnet Hewett when he suffered a stroke 25 May 1986. Dorothy worked as a state secretary for the Winneshiek Co. Soil Conservation Service 25 years and retired Jan 1993. Since retiring she works 2 days a week as a volunteer at the Minowa Health & Cancer Detection Center as Office Manager.

Bill and Dorothy have 3 children: Bruce Duane ; Rebecca Ann  married Roger Halverson; and Beth Elaine , married Dana Kirby. (See their family histories).

Dorothy and Bill are members of the United Methodist Church. Bill is a past member of the IOOF and is presently a member of the VFW where he recently received his 50 year pin. He is also a member of the Cooties Club.
