William Barth and Hattie Van Pelt

Margaret Anna, born 23 Jan 1913, married Glen Carl McMurray in 1935, divorced, and married Harlan Braden in 1937; George Harry, born 16 Feb 1914, married Alice Hanley in 1951 and divorced in 1976; Glenn Harold, born 1916 and died in a hunting accident 10 Jan 1937;and Edgar Raymond, born 4 May 1918, married Margaret Lein in 1940 and died 11 Apr 1994.

Hattie was a very tiny little lady who loved to sing and dance. William was of a much sterner nature and a very hard worker, but when he took the cattle by train to sell in Chicago he would bring beautiful dresses and gifts back for the family. William died at his home of leukemia 11 Sep 1931. Hattie moved to Decorah and lived there until her death 8 Jun 1959 of stomach cancer. Both are buried at Locust Cemetery.

Bartholomew, Andrew and Roanna “Rose” (Allen)

Andrew Bartholomew was born in Simco, Ontario, Candada 12 Jan 1844, the son of George and Eliza (Harrison) Bartholomew (See entry for George Bartholomew). Andrew moved with his family to Iowa in Apr 1843 settling on a farm in Bloomfield Twp., Winneshiek Co. He was a farmer and a carpenter and also served as a teacher in the rural school district earning $30.00 for the term. He enjoyed raising and training horses. In 1865 the Bartholomew family relocated to a farm south of Cresco in New Oregon Twp., Howard Co., IA.

On 1 Nov 1877 Andrew married Roanna “Rose''Agnes Allen at the home of her parents near Postville. Roanna was born 28 Oct 1854, the oldest daughter of Wilson Reed and Emeline (Noble) Allen (See entry for Wilson Reed Allen). Andrew and Rose farmed south of Cresco, then moved to a farm northwest of Cresco in Mar 1891 where

they remained the rest of their lives. Rose made beautiful tatting but was blind from glaucoma for 12 years before her death. Even as an old woman she had long hair reaching well below her waist, but she always wore her hair in a loose bun. Her manners were always very polite and correct. She died 1 Jul 1939. Andrew died 16 Apr 1905. Both are buried in the New Oregon Cemetery south of Cresco.

Andrew and Rose had one daughter, Florence Nightingale Bartholomew born 17 Jun 1879. She married Henry Emil Reutlinger (called Emil) 26 Nov 1902. Emil was born 1 Sep 1878 in Switzerland, the son of Emil Reutlinger, Sr. and Mary A. (Surber). Mary was born 4 Dec 1852 in Zurich, Switzerland and died 13 Jan 1937 in Cresco, IA. Emil
