DeyErmand, Ruth E Scott -

Funeral services were held June 17 in Grand Island, Neb., for Ruth E. DeyErmand, 90, who died June 14 at

a hospital there. Burial was in Westlawn Memorial Park there.

Mrs. DeyErmand was born in Lenox Feb. 27, 1895, daughter of James and Lillian Eckels Scott. She

attended Lenox schools.

She and Leo D. DeyErmand were married Feb. 11, 1915 in Creston. They resided in Lenox until

moving to Kimball, Neb., in 1918, and to Grand Island later the same year.

They operated a dairy farm in the Grand Island area for many years.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. DeyErmand leaves a son, Dale J. of Grand Island; two daughters, Helen

Perkins of Silver Spring, Md., and Mrs. E. Carrol Eveland of Grand Island; eight grandchildren, 12 great

grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Hayes, Ralph E -

Ralph E. Hayes, 80, native of Lenox, died May 5 at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, where he

had been a patient six weeks. Cause of death was kidney failure, according to a family spokesperson.

Mr. Hayes, who had made his home in recent years at 709 SE Dunham in Des Moines, was a

well-known lobbyist. He was instrumental in getting parimutuel betting, boxing and wrestling bills

passed in Iowa.

Services will be held May 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church in Des Moines, with burial in Fairview

Cemetery in Lenox.

Ralph Hayes was a son of James and Emma Smith Hayes, and had resided in Creston prior to moving to

Des Moines 20 years ago.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a Navy veteran of World War II.

He leaves four daughters, Mrs. Steve (Patty) John of Lenox; Rosemary Bennett of Lewisville,

Colo.; Emma Clem of Creston and Susan Richards of Des Moines. He also leaves a number of

grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by several members of his family, including his parents and his wife,

Ann Gourd Hayes, a native of Corning.

Mr. Hayes had a wide circle of friends, and had been visited in the hospital by Gov. Terry Branstad.

Another friend was musician Lawrence Welk, whom Mr. Hayes had brought to Lenox many years ago

to play engagements with the Welk  band, then virtually unknown.

Hayworth, Amy Jeanette Norton -

Services for Amy Jeanette Hayworth, 62, were held May 16 at Lenox Christian Church with Pastor

Jack Cutbirth officiating. Interment was at Conway Cemetery, Conway, Ia. Mrs. Hayworth died May 13,

1985 in Des Moines.

Amy Jeannette Hayworth, daughter of Arval W. Norton and Florence I. Weller was born at

Conway, Iowa December 3, 1922. She lived in Taylor, Page and Ringgold County and grew to

maturity in Conway where she attended the public school and graduated with the class of 1940.

She attended the Conway Methodist Church.

On April 15, 1940 she was united in marriage to Ivan Dellano Hayworth at Worth, Missouri and

they lived in Page, Ringgold, Mills, and Taylor Counties. To this union 11 children were

born: Karon, Martha, Carole, Paul, Mary, Terry, Ellen, Dennis, Douglas, Timmie and James.

She was employed by Lenox Community School for 12-1/2 years as a cook and head cook.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arval and daughter Karon.

Left to cherish her memory are mother, Belle Norton Barker and stepfather, Earnest Barker, husband,

Ivan D. Hayworth, children: Martha Morgan, Liscomb, Ia.; Carole Norris, Stuart, la.; Paul D.

Hayworth and wife Kay, Olathe, Ks.; Mary Olson, Roland, Ia.; Terry Hayworth and wife Cynthia,

Mitcheville, Ia.; Ellen Landers and husband Kerry, Carlisle, Ia.; Dennis Hayworth and wife Jackie, Grimes,

Ia.; Douglas Hayworth, Kansas City, Mo.; Timmie Hayworth, Des Moines, Ia.; James Hayworth, of

the home; brothers: Paul Norton, Grand Junction, Colo., Robert Norton, Lenox; sisters: Elva

Petersen, Atlantic, Ia.; Mildred Beason, Murrells Inlet, S.C., Mary Lou Barker, Conway, Ia.; grandchildren:

LeaAnn and Robb Morgan, Kerry and Darcy Beard, Danna Norris, Sherry McBroom, John-Paul Hayworth,

Terri, Jennifer, Neil, Rusty Olson, Joseph, Amy, Andrew, Matthew Hayworth, Patric Landers, Chris and

Kacy Hayworth; great grandchild, Amanda S. McBroom.

She was a member of the Navy Mothers Club as adjuntant and the Legion Auxiliary.

She was a kind and considerate mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be

missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lebbert, Sadie -

Funeral services were held June 10 in Blair, Neb., for Mrs. Sadie Lebbert, Blair native who died there

June 6 after a brief illness. She was 84. Burial was in a Blair cemetery.

The widow of Hans Lebbert, Mrs. Lebbert leaves two brothers, George Crowdy of Clarinda and William

Crowdy of Omaha; two sisters, Ruth Johnson of Riverside, Calif., and Bess Blume of Sioux City; a number

of nieces and nephews and many friends, some in the Lenox area.

Ledgerwood, Nelson William -

Memorial services were held March 22 in Riverside, Calif., for Nelson William Ledgerwood of

Riverside, former Lenox resident. Services were held at Sierra Memorial Chapel for Mr. Ledgerwood,

who died March 20 in Riverside. He was 73. Burial was in Olivewood Cemetery in Riverside.

Mr. Ledgerwood was born Aug. 20, 1911, in Maryville, Mo. He was an ambulance driver and had been a

frequent visitor in Lenox since moving to California.

He leaves his wife, Berthel, of the home at 12101 Indiana #3, Riverside, Calif. 92505; three sons,

Verneil of Corona, Calif., Victor of Hutchinson, Kans., and Vernon of Long Beach, Calif.; 10 grandchildren

and eight great grandchildren.

He also leaves a number of relatives in the Lenox area.

Maloney, Mary Josephine -

Funeral services were held Monday, June 3, at Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox for Mary Josephine Maloney, 88, native of

the Lenox area. The Rev. Dennis Trausch of St. Patrick's Catholic Church officiated at the 10 a.m. rites.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Leonard, Mike Maloney, George Ortman, Jack Hill, John Cade and Leland Wurster.

Honorary bearers were Ed Ryan and Lanny Douglas.

Interment was in East Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Mary Maloney was born in Taylor County near Lenox June 10, 1896. She attended Taylor County schools and resided on the family

"Century Farm" until her health began to fail and she moved to Nishna Cottage in 1977. She had made her home at Nishna Care Center in Malvern since June of 1978.

She was a charter member of the Lenox American Legion Auxiliary and a faithful and active member of St. Patrick's Church while her health was good.

She was a kind friend to children in her neighborhood, sending them gifts for special occasions.

She leaves a brother, Charles Maloney, Silver City; a nephew, James, also of Silver City; a niece, Carol Layton of Papillion, Neb., and

many other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, James W. and Elizabeth Huber Maloney; a brother, Raymond Maloney, and Marion (Shorty) Davis, upon whom she depended to help her with the farm for many years.

McCreight, Loraine -

Funeral services were held June 11 at St. Mark's Church in Mechanicsville for Loraine L. McCreight, 72, formerly of Clearfield.

She [He?] died June 8 at the Mechanicsville Care Center. Burial was in Mayflower Cemetery at Oxford Junction with military

rites.

Mr. McCreight is survived by his wife, Martha of Oxford Junction; two sons, Roger of Tucson, Ariz., and Edward of Oxford Junction; two daughters, Barbara Cromwell of Riviera, Fla., and Sharon Schmidt of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Duane of Clinton, Pa. and Dr. Ray

McCreight of Beaver, Pa.; two sisters, Mildred Young of Lenox and Floy of Clarinda, and eight grandchildren.

Mitchell, Paul M -

Memorial and prayer services were held recently for Paul M. Mitchell, 81, Aurora, who died at his

home. A retired school teacher and minister, he was minister at Blue Grove Church southwest of Lenox in

the 1920s. The church was later disbanded. He worked with young people, and had 40 who attended

Christian Endeavor meetings at Blue Grove.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie Pearl of the home; a son, William E. of Aurora; three

daughters, Norma Hill of Wichita, Kan., Pauline Hayes of Ewing, N.J., and Ruth Canbier of Denver, Colo.

five grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

Notz, Paul T -

Funeral services were held last Monday for Paul T. Notz, 78, who died Saturday at the hospital in Creston.

Services at Larkin-Bender Funeral Home were officiated by the Rev. Dick Walden of Creston Church

of the Nazarene. Burial was in East Fairview Cemetery, Lenox.

Pallbearers were Bob Reynolds, Lewis Brown, Alford Nicholson, Robert Rhoades, Mervin Shawler and Donald Trost.

Born Oct. 14, 1907 on the family farm north of Lenox in Adams County, Paul Notz was a son of John and Carrie Trost

Notz. He was educated in the rural schools of Adams County.

He was married March 26, 1955, to Emily Nelson at Creston, and they had made their home on a farm

northeast of Lenox since that time.

He was a member of the Creston Church of the Nazarene.

He enjoyed farming, was a lover of nature and the outdoors and especially enjoyed working with livestock.

He is survived by his wife, Emily; a sister, Bertha Walter of Lenox; a sister-in-law, Edith Notz of

Lenox, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold and twin sisters,

Pauline Walter and Anna Arneal.

Parrack, Fannie May -

Vivian Polland of Lenox was notified of the recent death of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Fannie May

Parrack, 66, of Excelsior Springs, Mo. Mrs. Parrack was a sister of Mrs. Polland's late husband, Robert

Polland.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ruth Davis of Auburn, Calif.; a brother, Cecil Polland of Excelsior

Springs; another sister-in-law, Zelma Polland, and a brother-in-law, George Barnett, both of Excelsior

Springs.

Also surviving are two grandsons and their families, both of Cameron, Mo.

Mrs. Parrack was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, a daughter, Bonnie McQueen, her

parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Polland, and nine brothers and sisters.

Rowe, Marvin -

Memorial services for Marvin Rowe, 65, Lincoln, were held recently in Gladbrook. Mr. Rowe, a former

resident of Lenox, died in a Des Moines hospital the first week in April.

Mr. Rowe was born Aug. 2, 1919, in Arcadia, Neb., son of Ethel Dunkel and Charles Rowe, and

moved with his family to southwest Iowa as a boy.

Marvin Rowe's father was a partner with Byron Brown in a garage business in Lenox many

years, and the Rowe children attended Lenox schools.

On Aug. 7, 1939, Marvin Rowe and Leona Kimball were married and they had made their home in the

Gladbrook-Lincoln area since. Mrs. Rowe is a daughter of the Carl Kimballs of Lenox, and attended

Lenox schools, also.

Marvin Rowe was a mechanic and welder, retiring from L. E. Meyers Co., Marshalltown, in 1981.

He was a member of the Tama Eagles Aerie.

Survivors include Mrs. Rowe of the home in Lincoln; two sons, Gary of Tucson, Ariz., and Richard of

Gladbrook; three daughters, Sue Raum and Linda Frericks of Gladbrook, and Karen Staker of

Lincoln; three brothers, Bob and Dean of Tampa, Fla., and Frank, Westminster, Colo.; three sisters,

Mary Lou Appell, Littleton, Colo., Doris Pursel of Curtis, Neb., and Eva Couch, Lyman, Neb.; and 12

grandchildren. Mr. Rowe was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Schowalter, Goldie Isadora -

Goldie Isadora Schowalter, 77, died April 20 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston. She was a

native of Carbon, but had made her home in Creston since 1953.

Services were held Tuesday, April 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Creston with burial to be in West

Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Mrs. Schowalter was born May 31, 1907, in Carbon, daughter of Ben and Martha Dixon Brown.

She was married to Emil Schowalter Nov. 25, 1929, in Atlantic. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Schowalter was a lifelong resident of Adams and Union counties. She had worked as a

surgical aide at Greater Community Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1968.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was active in Naomi Circle and Bible

Study. She was a Sunday school teacher, and had served many years as Sunday school treasurer at the

Villisca Lutheran Church.

She helped with the Creston Congregate meal program.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Van Wyk of Des Moines. Her parents and two brothers died

previously.

Spring, Harry Melvin -

Harry M. Spring, 73, Council Bluffs, formerly of Lenox, died at Lutheran Hospital in Council Bluffs

April 7.

Services were held at Meyer Funeral Home there on April 10, with burial in the Carson Cemetery.

He leaves his wife of the home, 2465 Ave. H, Council Bluffs; two daughters, two brothers, 11

grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and a grandson.

Spring, Harry Melvin -

Harry Melvin Spring, 73, a native of Corning, died recently at Lutheran Hospital in Omaha. He had

been with cancer for some time. Burial was in Carson Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 29, 1912, son of John and Minnie Ritter Spring.

He and Joey Evelyn Duey were married May 15, 1938, at Clearfield.

They resided in the Lenox area before moving to Carson in 1954, where he had worked at a grain

elevator 18 years. He was a member of the Carson Methodist Church.

The family moved to Council Bluffs several years ago, and he worked as a custodian at Lewis

Central School and in a lumber yard in Omaha prior to his retirement.

Mr. Spring was a kind and loving father and husband and will be greatly missed by family and a wide

circle of friends.

He leaves his wife, Evelyn of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Everett (Colleen) Gochenour of Council

Bluffs, and Mrs. Ray (Karen) Hering of Cumberland, la.; a grandson, Kelly Coldwell, who has

made his home with the Springs; two brothers, Earnest of Corning and Carl of Lenox; 11 other grandchildren

and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Arlene; a son, Ronnie Spring; a sister, Ruth

Young, and a grandson, Tim Coldwell.

Wilson, James -

James Wilson, 34, of rural Adams County died Friday in an Omaha hospital of injuries suffered in an explosion and fire at his home

earlier in the week.

Wilson reportedly was attempting to light a water heater when the explosion occurred.

Three Wilson children escaped serious injury in the blast and fire. Mrs. Wilson reportedly was at work at the time of the explosion.

Volunteer firemen from Nodaway and Corning answered the call to the scene southwest of Corning in Nodaway Township.

Wilson was taken to Corning by ambulance, then to Omaha by Life Flight helicopter, authorities said.

Woosley, Bernice L Hurley -

Funeral rites were held April 25 in Creston for Mrs. Bernice L. Woosley of Colorado Springs, Colo.,

formerly of Lenox and Creston. Mrs. Woosley, 73, died April 20 in Colorado.

The Rev. Adolph Phillips officiated and burial was in West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Mrs. Woosley was born Aug. 1, 1911, in Creston, daughter of Maude Conklin and Charlie Hurley. She was

married to Kenneth E. Woosley in Creston Nov. 3, 1928. He died in 1978.

Mrs. Woosley had lived most of her younger life in Creston, moving to Des Moines in 1950 and to Lenox

in 1965. She had resided in Colorado since 1978, making her home with a daughter there.

She is survived by a son, Robert E. of Omaha; five sisters, Darlene Loy, Beulah Conley and Doris Moen

of Des Moines, Jayce Cottrell of Rockford, Ill., and LaVona Jarvis of Springfield, Ill.; two brothers, Alfred

and Merland Hurley of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great great

grandchild; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Woosley of Creston. She was preceded in death by her

daughter, Mavis Olson, a sister and her parents.
