Case, Helen Inez Calvin -

Funeral services for Helen Case, age 87, who died at the Lenox Care Center on Wednesday, March 3, 1999 were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 1999, at

the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox with Pastor Audrey Westendorf officiating. Burial was held at the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Helen Inez Case was born September 3, 1911 in Christian County, near Chadwick, Mo. She was the daughter of Art and Laura Lowe Calvin. She attended rural schools in Christian County Missouri and also in Iowa, when her family moved to the Lenox area in 1925. On February 19, 1931 she was united in marriage to Earl "Tiny" Case in Corning.

Helen and Tiny farmed in the Lenox area. Alter his death in 1970, Helen moved to Lenox where she resided until entering the Lenox Care Center in 1990.

She was very active in the Lenox American Legion Auxiliary and had received the Governor's Award for time donated. She had been a member of the Blue Ladies

Volunteer Group that donated time helping people in group homes in Clarinda and Glenwood.

She is survived by three brothers, Wiilard "Gabby" Calvin and wife Betty of Jasper, MO; Paul Calvin and wife Vada and James "Speck" Calvin and wife Alberta, both

of Lenox; a sister Juanita Clark of Lenox; and tow sisters-in Law, Elizabeth Calvin of Lenox and Linda Calvin of Baxter, Iowa.

Preceding her in death are her husband Tiny in 1970, her parents, two brothers, Hudson and Jack and a sister Opal Heikkinen.

Duey, John Everett -

John Everett Duey, son of Stephen H. Duey and Charolette (Finkbeiner) Duey was born June 19, 1914 at Graham, Missouri and passed away February 6, 1999 at

Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa.

On February 16, 1937 he was united in marriage to Helen Lou Horton. To this union were born three children: James Douglas Duey, Judith Rae Branham and

Brenda Joan Spurrier. Johnny lived his entire life near and in the Clearfield community.

Johnny owned and operated the Clearfield Elevator for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Noble

Lodge #458 A.F. and A.M., served four terms on the Clearfield City Council and he was past Fire Chief of the Clearfield Fire Department. He was a charter member of the Clearfield Lions Club and a member of the Clearfield Cemetery Board for 17 years. He was a very active member of the community and took great pride in the town and the City Park.

Johnny and Helen Lou traveled and spent many winters in Arizona. Until their health failed, they had not missed an Iowa State Fair in 50 years.

He loved to have his grandchildren and great grandchildren come to play and visit.

Left to cherish his memory is his good friend, Grace Brown, who helped him so much this last year, his daughters, Judy Branham and husband Wayne of Sheridan,

MO and Brenda Spurrier and husband Dean "Curley" of Clearfield, IA; daughter-in-law, Ramona Duey of Folsom, CA, 8 grandchildren; Mark Hargin of Bedford, IA, Mitch Hargin of Clarinda, IA, Lisa Bergan of Superior, CO, Linda Bartlett of Roseville, CA, Craig Duey of Placerville, CA, Scott Spurrier and Angela Rugolo, both of Chandler, AZ and Brent Spurrier of Benton, IA, 13 great grandchildren, a sister Mollie Johnston of Afton, IA, sister-in-law Marianna Duey of Waverly, IA and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Raymond and Isabel Trost of Lenox, IA; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen Lou, son Jim, three sisters Ethyl McIntire, Rosetta Corliss, twin sister, Joy Evelyn Spring and one brother LJ. Duey.

Services were held Tuesday, February 9, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield with the Rev. Alan Rusk officiating. Music was provided

by Maralene Longfellow and Kathy Nelson.

Casketbearers were Wayne Wilson, Jerry Ewalt, Fred Wilson, Jerry Horton, Jerry Fletchall, and Charles Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were Darl Bell, Gaylan Bell,

James Darst and Paul Brown.

Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery in Clearfield, Iowa.

Fuller, Marion Guy -

Services for Marion Guy Fuller was held at the Huff Funeral Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas, Friday, February 12 1999 with Rev. Roy Duff officiating.

He passed away at the Wilson N. Jones Regional Health System after a lengthy illness.

Marion was born May 17, 1912 in Arlington, Texas to Samuel Edward and Laura Preitiss Fuller.

He was united in marriage to Edith Lorean Butler on July 15, 1931 in Ft. Worth, Texas. He was a self employed building contractor.

Survivors are his wife Lorean Fuller of Whitesboro, Tx; two sons, Carroll Fuller of Weatherford, Texas and Joe Fuller of Celina, Texas; two daughters,

 Gloria (Lee) West of Weatherford, Texas and Marion Mullennix of Whitesboro, Texas; one brother, Otis Fuller of Argyle, Texas; one sister, Marquerite

Jones of Lewisville, Texas; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Interment was in the Sadler Cemetery in Sadler, Texas. Huff Funeral Home of Whitesboro, Texas was in charge of the arrangements.

Glick, George Franklin -

George Franklin Glick was born to John and Dillie Johneston Glick on July 30, 1935 in rural Union county Iowa. His family had a farm in Ellston, Iowa and that is where

he lived and attended school.

George went into the service in 1953. He served his country faithfully in the Korean War. He came down with rheumatic fever and has lived in hospitals ever since, he

was most recently living at the VA Medical Center in Knoxville, Iowa until his death on Sunday, January 31, 1999.

His sister Pauline Anderson of Lenox, Iowa is left to cherish George's memory.

Graveside services were provided by Novinger Taylor Funeral Home of Bedford, and held at Grove Cemetery in Lenox, Iowa on Monday, February 8, 1999.

Heinbuch, Jessie Ruth Sickels Walford -

Jessie Ruth Heinbuch, 90, of Creston died Jan. 20, 1999, at Crest Haven Care Center.

Services were Jan. 23 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. The Rev. Tom Woodin officiated with burial in the West Fairview Cemetery

in Lenox.

Mrs. Heinbuch was born May 11, 1908, at Mount Etna to John Henry and Hannah Jane (Casteel) Sickles. She attended  schools in the Mount

Etna area.  On Sept. 9, 1931, she married Chester Walford in Maryville, MO, and he died March 6, 1962. On Feb. 24, 1977, she married Glen

Heinbuch in Livingston, Texas, and he died Nov. 26, 1985. She was a homemaker and a retired nurse's aide.

She grew up on a farm in the Mount Etna area and lived most of her life in Creston.

She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Eldon Matheny of Lenox; two grandchildren, Susan (husband Bill) Weese of Grand Prairie, Texas and Charles

(wife Brenda) Matheny of Des Moines; four great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Chester, Jr.; a daughter Ruth Matheny; a grandson; four

sisters, Mae Stennett, Blanch Chandler, Sarah Jane Shad and Rosa Sickles; and six brothers, John Wesley, Elvin, Earl, Orlo and

Emmett Sickles.

A memorial has been established in her name.

Powers Funeral Home of Creston was in charge of the arrangements.

Henderson, Mary Arneal -

Funeral services for Mary Henderson, age 80, who died at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning on Friday, February 19, 1999, were held

at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 1999 at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox with Pastor Tim Maxa officiating.

Burial was held at the East Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Mary Henderson was born to J.D. and Bessie Hoover Arneal on January 18, 1919 in Redding. Iowa. She grew up in the Redding area, graduating

from the Redding High School in 1936. She attended Tarkio College earning a Teaching Degree.

She taught in Diagonal and Atlantic prior to her marriage to Guy Henderson on June 6, 1941 at the United Presbyterian Church in Redding.

Mary and Guy farmed near Clearfield before moving to a farm near Lenox in 1949 where she resided at the time of her death.

Mary was a long time member of the United Presbyterian Church and United Presbyterian Women. She had been a member of the Mayflower

Federated Women's Club; the Order of the Eastern Star; a past leader of the Platte Peppy Pals 4-H Club; Taylor County Republican Women

and Iowa Pollettes. Mary was very active in the community. She enjoyed sports and found time to be an enthusiastic Lenox Tiger and Iowa State

Cyclone fan. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking.

Mary is survived by her four children, T.L. Henderson and wife Cheri of LaJunta, Colorado; Judith Ann Teig and husband Richard of Des

Moines; William James Henderson and wife Nickie of Clearfield; Onette Kay Henderson of Des Moines; a brother, James Arneal and wife Maxine

of North Bend, Nebraska; and seven grandchildren, Ty, Cole, Brenda, Ellen, Clay, Grant and Paige.

She is preceded in death by her husband Guy in 1994, her parents, J.D. and Bessie, a brother Howard and a sister in infancy.

Hinshaw, Loren Franklin -

Graveside services for Loren Hinshaw, age 86 were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 1999 at West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Loren passed away at the Clearview Nursing Home in Clearfield on Monday, January 25, 1999.

Loren Franklin Hinshaw was born to Bert and Mary Franklin Hinshaw on April 28, 1912 northeast of Bedford. He grew up attending school in

Clearfiefd. On February 26,1938 he was united in marriage to Ethel Lane in Greenfield. To this loving union four children were born, Gary, Kenneth,

Norman and Faye Jean.

Loren and Ethel spent over 50 years farming the same land southeast of Lenox. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and play horseshoes.

In 1978 the couple moved to Lenox where they resided until Loren's health started to fail and he entered the Clearview Home in Clearfield in 1998.

He was a member of the Lenox Christian Church for over forty-two years.

Loren is survived by his wife, Ethel of Clearfield; two sons, Gary and wife Cathy Hinshaw of Mesa, Arizona and Kenneth and wife Helen Hinshaw of

Clearfield and daughter Faye Jean Hinshaw and Danny Crowell of Clearfield, ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, along with many other

family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Mary, a son Norman and a brother, Ronald.

Hunter, Mae Lucas -

Services for Mae Hunter were held Wednesday, January 27 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Corning, Iowa with Rev. John Keizer officiating.

Mae Hunter, 89, of Corning, Iowa passed away at the Corning Nursing & Rehab Center in Corning January 23, 1999. She was born in Taylor

County, Iowa February 19, 1909 to Isaac and Isabelle Jane (Harrison) Lucas.

She graduated from Lenox High School in 1928. Living most of her life in Taylor and Adams County as a homemaker and teaching for

five years. She was united in marriage to E. Porter Hunter in Council Bluffs on December 23, 1933. She was a member of the United Methodist

Church in Garland was active in the WSCS and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include a son Ronald (Donna) Hunter of Corning and a son-in-law Richard Mosier of Lewis, Iowa; two sisters, Crissie Riegel and Nellie

O'Connell of Corning, Iowa; six grandchildren, four step grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nine step-great grandchildren and four

stepgreat great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Janet; one brother, Tip Lucas; a stepdaughter, Perle and a stepgrandson,

Eddie.

Interment was in the Carl Cemetery, Corning, Iowa.

McKee, Marjorie Peterson -

Funeral services for Marjorie McKce, age 87, who died at her home in Lenox on Monday, March 8, 1999, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday,

March 19, at the Lenox United Methodist Church with Pastor Audrey Westendorf officiating. Burial was held at the Summit Cemetery north of Lenox.

Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home, Lenox.

Marjorie McKee was born June 23, 1911 in Breda, Iowa, the daughter of G.M.S. and Lizzie Stover Peterson. She grew up in the Corning area,

where she graduated from Corning High School in 1929. She taught country school for a year, and then married Vernon McKee on March 31,

1933, on the family farm near Corning.

Marjorie continued to teach for another year. Soon after, the couple moved to Vernon's parents farm north of Prescott, where they resided

until moving to Lenox in 1975. Marjorie took great pride in being a mother, wife, and homemaker. After her youngest daughter graduated from

high school, Marjorie went back to school and received her degree in teaching from Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College in Maryville,

Missouri. She then taught for 26 years; seven in rural schools in Adams County, and 19 in the Prescott school system, before retiring in 1976.

Being with and around people, especially her family, is what made Marjorie happy. She loved big family meals, playing cards, and enjoyed

working in her garden. She had a love of music.

Marjorie was very active socially, being a member of the Lenox Mayflower Club, Lenox Country Club, the PI Chapter of the Delta-Kappa-

Gamma Teacher's Sorority, the Fort Nitely Club, a lifetime member of the Iowa State Education Association, Past Matron of the Order of

Eastern Star in Prescott and Lenox, and also a member of the Past Matron's Club.

Church was also an important part of her life, and she had been a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, and a member of United Methodist

Women.

She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Rychnovsky and husband James of Prescott, and Gloria Anderson and husband Wayne of Urbandale,

eleven grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her husband Vernon in 1994, her parents, two brothers, Ronald (in infancy), and Paul, a special cousin Thelma Carothers, two

granddaughters, Judy Rychnovsky and Nikole Baker.

O'Connor, Phyllis Aileen Lyddon Sayers Hill -

Phyllis Aileen Lyddon was born November 12, 1922 in rural Taylor County, and departed this earth February 19, 1999 in Baltimore, Maryland.

She grew up in Clearfield, Iowa, attending both elementary and high school there. After receiving her certificate from Northwest Missouri State

Teacher's College she taught in rural Ringgold County schools.

During the early days of World War II, Phyllis moved to Washington, D.C. where she spent thirty years with the CIA before retiring as a Civil Service

Grade 18.

During her time in that area, she was very active in the Methodist Church and associated organizations, as well as the Eastern Star, including a term as

Grand Worthy Matron for the State of Maryland.

Phyllis was preceded in death by two husbands, Dell Sayers and James Hill, as well as her parents, Raymond V. and Elvia R. Lyddon.

She is survived by her present husband, John O'Connor of Baltimore, Maryland, her brother, Robert E. Lyddon of Alamo, TX, and a first cousin,

Frances Kulla of Fulton, Maryland.

Funeral services were conducted February 26 by Byers Funeral Home, Randallstown, Maryland, with burial in Lakeview Cemetery.

Elizabeth Pine of Mount Ayr passed away February 17, 1999 at the Clearview Home in Mt. Ayr. She was 84.

Mrs. Pine, the daughter of Elias B. and Mary Nole (Stone) Bowman was born August 19, 1914 in LaFolette, Tennessee. She graduated from Jacksboro

High School. She was united in marriage to Walter Everett Pine in Tennessee on November 4, 1944. She was a homemaker and member of the Methodist

Church. She grew up in Tennessee, and lived in Benton, Diagonal and Clearfield before moving to Mount Ayr in 1959.

She is survived by a son, Edward Pine of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and a sister, Helen (husband Audrin) Agee of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, a brother and five sisters.

Services were held February 20, 1999 at the Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr. The Rev. Michael

Druhl officiated. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mt. Ayr.

Small, Donald Edgar -

Donald Edgar Small was born April 8, 1932 in Wapello, Iowa to Vern and Lena (Havenhill) Small and after a long illness he passed away on

January 21, 1999 at his home.

Don attended Wapello High School, graduating in 1950.

On January 27, 1952 he married Edna Samuels in Burlington, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Carol, Sandra, Steve and Melinda.

In 1970 Don and Edna moved the family from their farm near Wapello to Loveland, Colorado where he was employed by the City

Waterworks Department. In 1971 they returned to Iowa settling down on a farm south of Mount Ayr. After a temporary move to Decatur

City, Iowa they moved to a farm east of Mount Ayr where they still lived in a cabin built by Don in 1987.

In 1980 Don and Edna decided to open a restaurant in Mount Ayr and continue to operate Small Corral on the square today.

Don loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He was a member of Faith Lodge #179 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple, South Central Shrine Club, Mount Ayr

Country Club, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Carol, sister Verna Gajewski and mother and father-in-law Minnie and Carl Samuels.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Edna; daughter Sandra Thomas and husband Andy of Rancho Cordova, California; son Steve

Small and wife Teresa of Urbandale, Iowa; daughter Melinda England and husband Mitch of Diagonal, Iowa; grandchildren, two sisters, one

brother, nieces, nephews and a host, of friends.

Tindle, Marilyn Eloise Been -

Marilyn Eloise (Been) Tindle passed away on March 4, 1999 in the Bedford Nursing Home where she was a resident for two years with a long time illness.

Marilyn was born on November 2, 1923 to Harley and Leona Been in Tingley, Iowa where she was a resident for twenty years.

She was a graduate of Tingley High School and Thompson's School of Beauty.

On July 2, 1944 she was united in marriage with Max Tindle. The wedding took place in the Methodist Church in Tingley, hometown of Marilyn. Two daughters

were born to this marriage, Candace Lynn and Penny Sue.

The Tindles moved from Des Moines to Diagonal, with Max purchasing the local barber shop in December of 1947. Marilyn then opened her own beauty shop

in January of 1949.

Mrs. Tindle was preceded in death by her husband, Max and a grandson, Mark Baker and her parents, Harley and Leona Been.

She is survived by her daughter, Candace Baker, granddaughter Chevon Baker, friend Randy Constant and great granddaughter, Sarah K. Constant of Council Bluffs,

daughter, Penny and her husband, Sam Adams, grandson, Mathew and granddaughter, Jamie Sue of Bedford, IA. Also surviving are four brothers, four sisters,

sister-in-law and their spouses: Mark and Lillian Been of Florida; Mac and Nila Been of Kansas; Milo and Naomi Been, Merle and Doris Been, Margaret Dutton, Maudeene and Bud Swinehart, all from Iowa; Marrabell and Earl Schultz of Oregon; Mardell and Don Donner of Georgia; Donna Johnson of Iowa, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Services were held on Saturday, March 6, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa with the Rev. Eydie Stephens officiating.

Music was provided by Nancy Sackett, Mary Trullinger, and Margaret Bickers.

Casketbearers were Joe Johnson, Jim Johnson, Jay Johnson, Dan Swinehart, Rod Been, and Randy Constant.

Interment was in the Rising Sun Cemetery at Diagonal, Iowa.

Wilson, Mildred Lucille -

Services for Mildred Wilson was held Wednesday, March 3, 1999 at the Untied Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Maxa Officiating.

Music was provided by Organist Roberta Lockhart and Soloist Owen Maynes.

Casket Bearers were Mark Wilson, Ryan Wilson, Tim Wilson, Scott Ferguson, Clint Ferguson and Nick Ferguson.

Mildred Lucille Wilson, daughter of Robert W. Wilson and Minnie (Seibert) Wilson, was born on September 12, 1902 in Taylor County, Iowa

and departed this fife on March 1, 1999 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston at the age of 96 years 5 months and 19 days.

She was educated in rural school before graduating from Lenox High School in 1920, and was a rural school teacher for many years. She also

worked as a retail clerk at several Lenox businesses, the last for Metta Porter and Ritchie Clothing Store.

Mildred was a life-long resident of Taylor County , with the exception of a short time in 1906 when the family moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma.

In the early 1940's she was employed as a secretary at Remington-Rand Corporation in Denver.

Mildred was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox. She was also a charter member of the H.S. Club, a group of women

friends who enjoyed each other for many years.

Although Mildred never married, she found great joy in the lives of her nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rob and Minnie Wilson; sister, Gladys Garver and brother, Cecil Wilson and a brother-in-law

Jim Strange.

Surviving to mourn her are her brother, Marvin Wilson and wife, Mary, of Lenox; sister, Maurine Strange of Creston; sister-in-law, Velda

Wilson of Lenox; seven nieces and one nephew, Marian Havens, Belmond, IA; Donna Huston and husband Ed, Corydon, IA; Nancy Pennington and

husband Wes, Lawson, MO: Jane Ferguson, Maryville, MO; Annette Hanson and husband Stan, Omaha, NE; Carol Garrity, Omaha, NE; Robin McGary

and husband Steve, Aurora, CO; and Mark and wife Cheryl, Lenox, IA; numerous great-nieces and nephews and their families and many

friends. She will be sadly missed by them.

Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox, Iowa with Coen-Beaty Funeral Home of Lenox in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox, Iowa.

Ziebig, Gerald (Jerry) -

Jerry Zeibig, 57, of Clarinda, Iowa died Saturday, January 23, 1999, at home. Jerry was born March 2, 1941, at Chester, Nebraska, to

Ernest and Erma Fintel Zeibig. He spent his years as an auctioneer and farmer in the Hawleyville area.

Survivors include daughter, Katherine Zeibig of Lenox, Iowa; mother Erma Throop of Washington, Kansas; brother Doug Zeibig, of

Bellevue, Kansas; sister Linda Lorimor and husband Neal of Bellevue, Kansas, nieces and nephews.

His father preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 28, 1999, 10:30 a.m. at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Iske officiating.

Burial was in the Hawleyville cemetery.

A memorial will be established.
