Brown, Edna Maxine Blair -

Edna Maxine Brown was born February 19, 1919, in Sand Creek Township of Union County, Iowa. She was one of four children of Clyde

and Retta (Ruggles) Blair.

Edna graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1936. On November 7, 1936, she was united in marriage to Raymond D.

Brown in Mt. Ayr, Iowa.

Their union was blessed with two children: Gerry and Kathryn.

Edna and Raymond spent their entire married life in the Creston and surrounding area. Edna was a farm wife and homemaker.

She died August 22, 1997 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 3 days.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Leslie and Cecil Blair.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Raymond of Creston, a son and daughter-in-law, Gerry and Bev Brown of Lenox, a daughter Kathryn Steggall of Creston, a brother, Floyd Blair of Creston, grandchildren and their spouses: Lori and Alan Goodson of Lenox, Mike and Amy Brown of Lenox, and Kevin and Tracy Baker of Oklahoma City, OK; great-grandchildren: Andy and Mark

Goodson, Chelsi, Heather, Robert and Brandon Brown all of Lenox; and Ashley and Stephanie Baker of Oklahoma City, OK; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 25, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Creston with Rev. Elliott Buter, III, of the Jerusalem Church officiating. Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery at Cromwell. Visitation was held Sunday at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Creston.

Those serving as pallbearers were Alan Goodson, Mike Brown, Kevin Baker, Charles Jackson, William Snyder and Eric Snyder.  Lynn Baker as organist provided accompaniment as Dorothy Jackson and Phyllis Huff sang "The Old Rugged Cross", "How Great Thou Art", and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."

Memorials may be directed to the Jerusalem Church or Greater Community Hospital Home Care.

Chadwick, Mildred Lucille Jones -

Mass of Christian Burial for Mildred L. Chadwick, 81, of Shenandoah, Iowa was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August

20, 1997, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah. There was a visitation with the family Tuesday evening with a prayer

service following. A memorial is being established. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.

Mildred Lucille Chadwick, the daughter of Harry and Annie (O'Connell) Jones was born in rural Taylor County, Iowa on June 25,

1916 and passed away Friday, August 15, 1997 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah.

Mildred was born and raised on the family farm in Taylor County. She attended Beachdale School in Taylor County from

Kindergarten through 8th grade and then attended Lenox High School, from which she graduated in 1934.

Following graduation, she moved into Lenox where she worked as a store clerk at Lenox Grocery from 1941-1947 and as a bank

teller from 1947-1956.

On June 19, 1956, Mildred was united in marriage to Clinton R. Chadwick at Lenox. To this union was born one son, Francis.

Following their marriage Mildred and Clinton resided in Atlantic, Iowa until moving to Shenandoah in 1961. From 1964 until their retirement in 1977, Mildred and Clinton operated Chadwick Market in Shenandoah.

Mildred was a member to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Preceding her in death was her husband Clinton, on August 11, 1989; her parents; a sister, Frances Jones; and a brother, Arthur

Jones.

Survivors include her son, Francis Chadwick of Sioux City, Iowa; a sister M. Margaret Jones of Lenox, Iowa; special friends, Jo and

Terry Phillips of Shenandoah, Iowa; along with other relatives and friends.

Elder, Gordon Howard -

Services for Gordon Howard Elder were held Tuesday, July 8, 1997 at Lenox Christian Church with Rev.

Dena Woldruff officiating.

Music was provided by Bonnie Tyler as organist and Carol Ann Kinder as soloist.

Casket Bearers were Tom Bender, David Riley, Dave Beckett, Jon Bridgewater, Wayne Underwood, and Larry

Walters. Honorary Bearers were Kenny Black, Jake Larson, Glen Norton and Stan Curtis.

Gordon Howard "Beansie" Elder was born April 20, 1927 the son of Gordon A. and Gladys Underwood Elder in

Conway, Iowa and entered into rest at his home in Lenox on July 5, 1997 at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 15 days.

Howard attended school in Lenox and graduated from Lenox High School in 1944.

After graduation he entered the Navy where he proudly served his country during World War II.

With his father, he started G.A. Elder & Son Trucking firm for over 43 years. He was a 52-year member of the

American Legion Post #250, serving as commander, vice commander, sergeant-at-arms, adjutant, and 7th district

adjutant. He was a member of V.F.W. post 1797. Howard was also a member of the Flying Club for 30 years and

president for 20 years. He was a charter member of the Tri-Lake Shooters Club in Lenox and served on the low rent

housing development board for 3 years.

On May 31, 1997 he was united in marriage with Elaine Ewart at the Lenox Christian Church in Lenox, Iowa.

Surviving to honor his memory are his wife, Elaine Elder of Lenox; 4 stepchildren, 2 step-grandchildren

and 1 step great grandchild, 1 sister, Doris Jean Moneymaker of Seattle, Washington, a nephew, Larry (wife Cindy)

Walters of Garden City, Missouri, several cousins, and other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents and sister, Virginia Wollenberg.

Memorials may be directed to the Lenox Community Trust Scholarship Fund.

Goldsmith, Francis Merle -

Francis Merle Goldsmith was born September 2, 1915, in Adams County, Iowa, one of six children of Arvin B. and

Marella (Brown) Goldsmith. As a youth, Francis attended country school in rural Adams County.

On January 1, 1936, he was united in marriage to Mabel Lucille Goldsmith at Brooks, Iowa.

For a brief time, Francis worked at the rock quarry at Mt. Etna. Otherwise, his lifelong vocation was farming

in Adams County. He gave special emphasis to raising Angus cattle.

Francis and Lucille made their home on the farm until the mid 1970's, when they moved to Lenox. In addition

to his work related associations, he was a member of the Mercer Center Church.

Francis died on Monday July 7, 1997, at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning at the age of 81 years, 10

months, 5 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lucille on March 25, 1996; brothers Oliver, Lewis, and twins James

and Edward; a sister Lucille; and an infant son, Francis Alvin.

Francis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Dean and Margaret Goldsmith of Windsor, Colo.; a daughter

and son-in-law Linda and Curtis Jordening of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren: Todd Goldsmith and wife Debra of

Corning, Lori Reed and husband Mark of Lenox; Deena Moore and husband Cory of Lewis, la.; Christopher Jordening

and wife Julie, of Demon, Texas; and Darcie Jordening of Dallas, Texas; four great-grandchildren: Bryant and Brooke

Goldsmith, Colton Jordening and Mikayla Moore; two sisters-in-law: Mary Goldsmith of Corning and Estella Goldsmith of

Seattle, Washington; as well as several other close relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 11, 1997, at the Mercer Center church with Pastor Audrey Westendorf

officiating. Burial was in the Prairie Rose Cemetery of rural Adams County.

Serving as pallbearers were Ron Brown, Bill Pegg, Larry Castillo, Richard Castillo, Gary Goldsmith, Steven Goldsmith,

Richard Goldsmith and Russell Goldsmith. Honorary pallbearers included Robert Castillo, Bill Goldsmith, Gordon Goldsmith,

Ronald Goldsmith and Clifford Goldsmith. Kathryn Wilson as pianist provided accompaniment for the Congregational hymns.

Lucas, Alfred E -

Alfred E. Lucas of Kent was born Nov. 19, 1942, to Arthur Eugene Lucas and Florence Francis Lucas in Creston, Iowa,

and passed away Sunday, July 27, 1997, at the age of 54 after suffering heart problems at his parent's home in Kent.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 31, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston with Rev. Peter Brantner officiating.

Burial was in Morgan Cemetery, Kent. Memorials to Platte Center Presbyterian Church and the Morgan Cemetery.

Alfred graduated from Creston High School in 1961 and attended Creston Junior College and Iowa State University.

He farmed all of his life in the Kent area. He was a member of the Union County Historical Society and the

Union County Genealogical Society. He was a 4-H leader, Platte Township Historian and in 1971 he authored the book

"A History of Kent, Iowa 1869-1971" for Kent's Centennial. He also authored the book "Bluegrass Palaces" for the

Union County Historical Society. He recently completed a manuscript updated the history of Platte Township and

Kent. Alfred was also a trustee for the Morgan Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Gene and Florence Lucas of Kent, and sister Linda (Mrs. Bill) Walling of Columbia, S.C.

Lynch, Tessie Fern Ray -

Tessie Fern Lynch was born September 17, 1909 to James Garfield and Laura Ray at the Ray family farm in

Worth County Missouri near Isadora.

Tessie was baptized at an early age and was a lifelong member of the Isadora Church of Christ. She attended the

Isadora County School and High School at Grant City, Missouri.

Tessie and Samuel Wilford Lynch were united in marriage on December 24, 1927 at the home of Lawrence

Day. Two daughters blessed their union, Deloris Evelyn, in 1928 and Eva Mae in 1930.

Wilford and Tessie set up housekeeping and began farming at Isadora. Later they moved to Athelstan, Iowa and

in 1940 they moved their operation to a farm near Bedford, Iowa. They retired in 1973 and moved to the town

of Bedford.

Due to declining health Tessie moved to the Clearview Nursing Home at Clearfield, Iowa in 1989.

Tessie was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Deloris in 1967 and husband Wilford in 1982, one

brother, Virgil Ray; sisters, Neva Oleny, Ollie Herren, Madelyn Ray and Lucy Ray.

Left to cherish her memory are Tessie's daughter Eva Mae Benham and husband Kenneth of Oak Leaf, Texas;

grandson, granddaughters, great grandchildren, step great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren,

brothers, sisters, numerous friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday June 23, 1997 at the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City,

Missouri. Rev. Charles Bottiger officiated. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford, Iowa.

Matheny, Jay Sidney -

Jay Sidney Matheny, the son of Paul and Bernice Yocum Matheny, was born November 26, 1960, in North

Hollywood, California.

Jay lived in the Clearfield area and attended the Clearfield Community Schools graduating in 1979. He also

attended Stewarts School of Cosmetology for one year.

Jay lived in the Des Moines area for the past 10 years where he was employed by United Parcel Service.

He was a member of ABATE-a Harley Davidson Club, and regularly attended Sturgis and participated in

many Toy Runs which benefited Toys for Tots.

He is survived by his parents, Paul and Bernice Matheny of Bedford; a stepdaughter, Toni Straight and her

children, McKenzie and Cody (Jay's grandchildren) of Des Moines; four brothers, Mike and wife Kathy Crosier of

LaMoore, California; Joel Matheny and Marcia Kolecki of Westminster, Colorado; James and wife Sheila Matheny of

Bedford; and Jeffrey Matheny and Patty Wegner of Council Bluffs; two sisters, Patricia and husband John Orendoff of

Henderson, Colorado, and Jeroryn and husband, Mike Weese of Council Bluffs; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jay was preceded in death by one brother, Randy Matheny. Jay was killed in a motorcycle accident on Thursday, August 7, 1997.

Graveside services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford, Monday August 11, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. Burial

was in the Platteville Cemetery.

McLaury, Ruth Marie Reynolds -

Ruth Marie McLaury was born November 23, 1907 to Frank and Jennie (Bentley) Reynolds in Ringgold County,

Iowa. She graduated from Clearfield High School.

On April 14, 1927 she was united in marriage to Clifford McLaury at the Creston Methodist Church. Their union

was blessed with four daughters: Patricia, Beverly, Marilyn and Sharon.

Ruth and Clifford were married nearly 50 years at the time of his death in February of 1977.

Ruth was proud of her cooking and she worked at restaurants in Lenox for Don Keast Sr. and John Robbins.

She also worked for the Lenox Schools as cook.

Ruth also worked as a telephone operator in Sharpsburg. She was a member of the Lenox Methodist Church.

Ruth was able to live on her own until she was hospitalized in June of this year. At that time she moved to the

Lenox Care Center.

She died August 2, 1997 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston at the age of 89 years, 8 months, 9 days.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clifford; two brothers, Robert, who died at age four, and

Charles Francis, who was missing in action during World War II; a grandson Jerry Beach and a son-in-law Bill Beach.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters Patricia Beach of Lenox, Beverly Cunningham of Ft. Myers, Fla.,

Marilyn Pikala and husband Rick of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Sharon Nutting and husband John of Huntington

Beach, California; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Gladys Cole

of Nebraska City, Neb. and Mary Belle Wilson of Lenox; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday August 4, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox with Rev. Tim

Maxa officiating. Burial was in East Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Those serving as pallbearers were Bill Young, Kenneth Black Don Black, Don Trost, Don Keast Jr. and Roquel Davis.

Honorary pallbearers included Jim, Tim and Robert Beach, Fred and Mike Woolley, and Randy Kruzan.

Miller, Frances Merle Johnson Clark -

Frances Merle Miller was born March 7, 1911 in Ringgold County, Iowa, a daughter of Nels Johnson and Minnie Olivia (Larson)

Johnson. She attended country school in Ringgold County.

On December 24, 1930, Frances was united in marriage to Ivan E. Clark in Shenandoah, Iowa. To their union was born a son Gene

and a daughter Beverly. They lived in Ringgold County and Union County earlier in their marriage, and in Creston, and then worked

for over five years at A & G Steakhouse. Her husband Ivan died December 1, 1971.

On August 10, 1977, Frances married Raymond (Mike) Miller in Lenox, she was a homemaker while residing in Lenox.

Following Mike's death on October 2, 1994, Frances moved to the Lenox Care Center. She died there on July 18, 1997, at

the age of 86 years, 4 months, 11 days.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Ivan Clark, second husband Mike Miller, grandson David Dahlberg, brothers: Clarence, John and Charlie Johnson; sisters: Marie Adkisson, Bernice Madden and Lurene Slater; and half-sisters

Jennie Brand, Helen Jeanette Brand and Mary Johnson Heaps.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Gene and Judy Clark of Creston, IA; daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Ronald Dahlberg of Rockford, IL; grandchildren: Sally Hinton and husband Gordon, Peg Clark and friend Ed Avila, all of Corning, IA;

Trudy Clark and friend Monte Jacobsen of Maryville, MO; and Roylene Raitt of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren Ann and Megan

Hinton, Jenny Clark and Danner Jacobsen, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Services for Jimmie Irving Sevier was held August 27, 1997; at the Stringtown Community Church with Rev. Roy Cook officiating.

Music was provided by Ellen Grace Brown as pianist and Roy and Leah Cook as vocalist.

Pallbearers were Richard Williamson, Larry Vanderpluym, Terry Hervie, Ron Spurr, Maurice Greene, and Randy Fry.

Jim Sevier was born June 18, 1932 in Creston, Iowa to Harold and Martha Schonfeldt Sevier. He passed away on

Friday, August 22, 1997 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 65 years.

He attended schools in Creston and Ellston, moving to Kent in 1947 where he lived his entire life.

Jim served his country from 1952 to 1956 in the U.S. Air Force.

He married Mary Nagel on June 15, 1955.

Jim later married Wilma Marckmann Millsap on September 6, 1979 at Bedford Iowa.

Jim was employed at Fansteel/Wellman Dynamics for 25 years, retiring on June 20, 1997.

He was a member of the Stringtown Community Church since Jury 8, 1979.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, infant children Rita and Jimmy, grandson, Tyler Crookshank, father-in-law Earnest

Marckmann, brother-in-law Ivan Sterling and a sister-in-law Mary Lippold.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Wilma of Kent; his daughters Tina Crookshank and husband Jeff of LeGrande, Iowa; and

Tammy Ash and husband David of Marshalltown, Iowa, grandchildren Heather, Oliver Sara, Kelly, Samantha, Alicia, Tabatha, and Tyler.

He is also survived by his stepchildren Vern Millsap of Des Moines; Charlie Millsap of Creston; and Pam Fry and husband Randy of Creston, step grandchildren Mandy, Brandy, Joey, Mariah, Brandon and Megan; mother-in-law Minnie Marckmann of Kent; one brother, Larry Sevier and wife Shirley of Macksburg, Iowa; three sisters, Dorothy Sterling of Tingley, Ruby England and husband Bill of

Stallings,Wanda Wuanitta Myers Beach -

Wanda Waunitta Beach, daughter of Howard and Helen Schnadinger Myers, was born Jan. 6, 1924 in Newport, Ind.

Wanda graduated from the Newport High School in the Class of 1942. She was employed by the R.C.A. Victor

Division of the Radion Corp. of America in Indianapolis.

On August 11, 1945, Wanda was united in marriage to Master Sgt. Dale H. Beach at the Beach home in Taylor

County, Iowa. Three children were born to this union.

She later married Brainard Stallings of Villisca, Iowa. She has lived in numerous cities in the United States and abroad

and left good friends all over the  world. She was an avid rose gardener and loved to fish.

Wanda and her family lived in the Lenox area from 1962 to 1965. The past seven years, she had been living in

Freeport, Fla., where she and her son Marty owned and operated the Top Notch Roofing Co.

Wanda died August 3, 1997, at the Clar Lake Humana Hospital in Houston, Texas, at the age of 73 years,

6 months, 27 days.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Myrna [Myra] Beach; her parents; a brother Paul Myers; and a sister, Ava

Estelle.

Wanda is survived by two sons, Michael and wife Pat of Aurora, Colo, and Marty Beach of Freeport, Fla; a sister,

Mariam Bailey and husband Gene of Flat Rock, Ind.; a former daughter-in-law Sallie King of League City, Texas;

six grandchildren; two half sisters; a number of sisters-in-law including Josephine Walter and husband Julian

and Pat Beach, all of Lenox; and a number of brothers-in-law, including Raymond Brown of Lenox.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 8, 10:30 a.m. at the Lenox United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Maxa

officiating. Burial was in the East Fairview Cemetery.

Those serving as pallbearers were Tim Lucas, Greg Nook, Tom Lynam, Chad Lewis, Fred Woolley, Jon Mosier and

Mike Cheese. Music was provided by Jan Beach and Raelene Best.

Straight, Mary May Matheny -

Mary May Straight, daughter of Josiah Harrison and Ruth Alma Reeves Matheny was born August 15, 1911 in Platteville, Iowa. She

departed this life on August 20, 1997 at 10:00 p.m. in the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa. She was 86 years and five

days old.

She grew up in the Platteville area and attended Platteville schools. On December 29, 1928 she was united in marriage to Luther Edward Straight. To this union were born four children: Raymond, Marvin, Marianne, and Suzanne. Mary had spent her entire life in Taylor

County. During her lifetime she worked at the Clearfield Community School, Clearview Nursing Home and the Gaule's local cafe. She was also a caretaker of many elderly in their own homes. She was a member of the Clearfield United Methodist Church where she attended services for as long as her health permitted. She also enjoyed going to the Congregate Meals as much as possible.

She is survived by her three children; Raymond and wife Virginia Straight of Clearfield, daughters Marianne and Suzanne Straight of Shenandoah, Iowa; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a large host of friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Luther, a son Marvin, six brothers, Joe, Jim, Paul, Wilbur, Claude and John

Matheny and two sisters Ruby and Amy. Mary will be missed by many friends, neighbors and family.

Funeral services were held on Saturday August 23, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield, Iowa with the Rev.

Alan Rusk officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. John Parrish and Mrs. Henry Briggs.

Casketbearers were Rodney Straight, Shannon Cason, Michael Moellenberndt, Paul Matheny, Delbert Matheny, and John Matheny. Honorary pallbearers were Mindy Streitenberger, Nicky Streitenberger, Lurae Perdew, Tammy Briggs, Marty Cason, Kevin Moellenberndt, and Christopher Moellenberndt.

Sundell, Karl Hyjlmar -

Karl Hyjlmar Sundell, the son of John and Wilhelmina Blad Sundell, was born September 26, 1902 in

Sharpsburg, Iowa and entered into rest at the Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa on July 29, 1997 at

the age of 94 years, 10 months and 3 days.

He attended country school in Sharpsburg and graduated from Conway High School in 1922. Karl played

baseball for the Sharpsburg town team in the early 1920's.

On June 16, 1934 he was united in marriage with Ruth Bruner in Clearfield, Iowa. This union was blessed with

the birth of three children; a son, Edward, and two daughters, Vada and Beverly.

He was Director of Country Schools for Marshall and Grove Townships for several years. He was a

Karl enjoyed bowling even into his 90's. He loved to play cribbage and enjoyed playing the violin. He lived

his entire life within five miles of where he was born until moving to Lenox in 1987.

Surviving to honor his memory are his wife Ruth Sundell of Lenox; son Edward (wife Joyce) Sundell of St.

Joseph, Missouri; two daughters, Beverly Stream of Lenox, and Vada (husband Wayne) Calhoon of Spencer,

Iowa; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Albert Sundell and sister Agnes Bashor.

Funeral services were held August 1, 1997, at Larkin & Shelley Funeral Home, with Rev. Alan Rusk officiating.

Casket bearers were Bob Sundell, David Stream, Stan Curtis, Phil Sundell, Danny Stream, Mark Barrans and

John Calhoon.

Music was provided by Catherine Wilson, Marilyn Beck and Billie Jean Barker.

Interment was in North Fairview Cemetery. Memorials to Lenox United Methodist Church.

Trost, Ruth Vera Bartrem -

Ruth Vera (Bartrem) Trost, the eldest child of Samuel and Nora (Dean) Bartrem, was born August 30, 1899, on a farm north of

Lenox, Iowa. While still a small child, she moved with her family to a farm northeast of Lenox and lived there until she moved

into Lenox in 1981.

Ruth attended a rural school and graduated from Lenox High School in 1917. She then taught for a few years at a rural school in

Adams County

On August 27, 1920 she was united in marriage with Joe Trost, and to this union six children were born.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Her outstanding qualities were many, the greatest being her kindness toward her family and friends. She always had a good

word for everyone.

Ruth entered into rest August 4, 1997, at the Lenox Care Center at the age of 97 years, 11 months, 5 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, her parents, a sister Bessie, a brother Lloyd, two infant brothers, two half-sisters, a

son-in-law Yale Lillie, and grandson Richard Lillie.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Poore and husband Howard of Bedford, Iowa, Mildred Reynolds and husband Jerry of Torrance, Calif., and Margaret Boone and husband Paul of Cody, Wyo.; three sons, Raymond Trost and wife Isabel of Lenox, Donald Trost and wife Dorothy of Lenox, and Gene Trost and wife Yavette of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; sister-in-law Helen Trost of Lenox;

18 grandchildren; six step grand-children, 35 great-grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 7, 1997 at the Lenox United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Maxa officiating. Burial was in the West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Open visitation was held Wednesday at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox.

Those serving as pallbearers were Allen Lillie, Mike Hilgenberg, Rod Trost, Mike Trost, Scot Trost and Randall Trost.

Roberta Lockhart and Forrest and Margaret Whipp provided music.

A memorial has been established in Ruth Trost's name. Coen-Beaty Funeral home of Lenox was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Vanderpluym, Mary Catherine Canny -

Mary Catherine Canny Vanderpluym was born on March 31, 1916 to William and Mary Catherine (Kit) Hannon

Canny in Grant Township of Ringgold County, Iowa. She departed this life July 15, 1997 at the Ringgold County

Hospital, Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Mary resided on the family farm in Ringgold County her whole life. She attended rural school and Benton High School.

She was united in marriage to Paul Vanderpluym of Diagonal, Iowa on December 26, 1940 at the Immaculate Conception

Catholic Church in Maloy, Iowa. Two daughters, Willetta Catherine and Susan Yvonne were born to this union.

Mary enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting and making comforters for family members. As she was only two years old

when her father died, she grew up working on the farm and doing much of the housework. Mary and Paul farmed and

raised their daughters in rural Diagonal.

Left to survive Mary are her daughters Willetta and husband Jim George of rural Diagonal and Susan Kinnev of

Mount Ayr, five grandchildren, RaNa and husband Bob Bailey, Pat George, Shawn and husband Marty Cameron, Colby Homes

and wife Tricia all of rural Diagonal and Renante Kinney of Mount Ayr, six great grandchildren, Ryan and Chad Bailey,

Levi, Taylor and Bailey Jo Cameron and Katelyn Mary Holmes as well as cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Madelaine, her brother Thomas, and husband Paul.

Funeral services were held July 17, 1997 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Maloy, Iowa with the Rev.

Thomas Dooley officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Judy Newton.

Casketbearers were Pat George, Ron Mobley, Greg Mobley, Jim Morris, Glee Mobley, Wyatt Mobley. Honorary pallbearers

were Burl Mobley, Don Burch, Cecil Smith, Paul Hannon, Wallace Sobotka, Ted Ricker, Jr.

Interment was in the St. Mary's Cemetery at Maloy, Iowa. Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home was in

charge of the funeral arrangements.
