Bailey, Lucille May King -

Funeral services for Lucille Bailey of Clearfield were held Feb. 12, 2004, at United Methodist Church in Clearfield with

Rev. Len Garrison officiating. She passed away Feb. 10, 2004.

Organist was Patty Parrish, and vocalist was Randall Trost.

Casket bearers were Shane Bailey, Jason Walke, Adam Parrish, Mike Burgher, Jason Naill, and Rick Snyder. Honorary

pallbearers were Bob Hower, Al Brammer, Pat Cowan, Dan Stewart, Clint Kriipe, Joe Routh, Ronnie King, and Keith

Moore.

Interment was in Clearfield Cemetery. Wilson-Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lucille May King Bailey, 88, of Clearfield, IA, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at the Clearview Home in Clearfield,

IA. She was the daughter of Harry and Lydia Watts King and was born on December 26, 1915 in Benton, IA. She attended

country schools and graduated from Diagonal Community High School in 1932.

Lucille was united in marriage to George F. Bailey on August 26, in 1936 in South Dakota and they spent most of their married

life in Taylor County.

To this union three children were born, Pauletta K, Karol Lynn and George F. Bailey, Jr. After teaching country school, Lucille

helped George operate the Bailey Seed and Feed in Clearfield. In 1959 Lucille became the publisher and editor of the Clearfield

Chronicle. This 36-year business venture kept family and friends in touch with the Clearfield Community. Through the years George

and Lucille cherished the relationships they formed with the young adults who they came in contact by operating Bailey Seed and

Feed and the Clearfield Chronicle. Most working people looked forward to Fridays, but Lucille and George looked forward to

Wednesday afternoons for that final copy of the Chronicle to go to press.

Other pastimes Lucille enjoyed were bowling, dancing and horseracing, also a special time for George and Lucille was

entertaining family and friends on Christmas Eve. The time Lucille cherished the most was the time she spent with her children,

grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be, remembered for her laughter and good times she brought to her entire family.

Lucille was a lifelong resident of Ringgold and Taylor counties. A member of the United Methodist Church, an honorary member of

the United Methodist Women, and the Clearfield Lionells.

Left to cherish her memory are children: Pauletta K Burgher of Dallas Center, IA; Karol Lynn Matheny, husband, Dwight, George

F. Bailey, Jr, wife Linda all of Clearfield.

Grandchildren Michelle and Jason Walke of Des Moines IA, Mike and Carie Burgher of Dallas Center, IA, Courtney and Rick

Snyder of Macedonia, IA, Staci and Jason Naill, Tori and Adam Parrish and Shane Bailey all of Clearfield.

Great grandchildren are Bailey Walke, Brooklyn and Brody Burgher, Alex and Trey Snyder, Gerad and Genna Naill and

Ashley and Morgan Parrish and Sister-in-law Bertha King of Diamond, MO.

Preceding her in death were: her parents, Harry and Lydia King, husband George F. Bailey, Sr., brother Clifford King and

son-in-law Don Burgher.

Farewell, Mom-Grandma-your love will remain with us always.

Bathurst, Samuel Sherman -

Samuel Sherman Bathurst was born May 19, 1925 to Guy F. and Mary C. (Thompson) Bathurst, at Greenfield He

departed this life on December 22, 2003 at Early, IA, where he had made his home the past two years.

Sam was raised in the Greenfield area, lived at Thayer for some time and had made his home in Clearfield for over 40

years. Sam was handy and could do most anything, as a young boy he even made his own toys and one time he made his oldest

niece, Mary Emma, a table and chairs for her dolls.

On January 25, 1952, Sam and Phyllis Gaule were united in marriage at Clarinda. Two children were joined to this union

Michelle and Sherman, Phyllis preceded Sam in death on June 26, 1998.

Sam held many different occupations; he farmed, drove a school bus, hauled gravel, worked on construction putting up

high lines, road construction, trucked and worked as a mechanic.

For many years he ran his own mechanic and welding shop in Clearfield, retiring in the early 90's.

He collected antique tools and buttons from thrashing shows, but his biggest joy was his family. The best times were

spent with his grandsons, Bruce and Wade and Wade's fiancee, Jacki Shimer and his great-granddaughter, Shayna. He also

enjoyed his times with nieces, nephews and his friends for which he generally had a good story.

Irene Rollings and Sam were married on July 7, 2001 and have made their home in Early.

Preceding Sam in death were his parents, wife, a brother Joseph Bathurst and sister, Eileen Edner.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Irene (Rollings) Bathurst, Early, daughter, Michelle (Larry) Brammer, Clearfield

son, Sherman Bathurst, Creston,; grandsons, Bruce and Wade Brammer and a great granddaughter, Shayna Brammer; a

brother, Billie Louis Bathurst, Guthrie Center; stepchildren Donald, Jr. (Elaine) Rollings of Sioux Rapids, IA, Jeanne

(Gordon) Jones, Bettendorf, IA, Cheryl Purvis, Newell, IA, Pat (William) Purvis, Early, and Darlene (Robert) Noll, Early;

 other relatives and friends.

The services were conducted by Wilson-Watson & Armstrong F.H., Clearfield, on Sunday, December 28, 2003 with Linda

Bell Officiating.

Casket bearers were: Jack Campbell, Jay Campbell, Joey Campbell, Dwight Matheny, Jerry Campbell and Ray Dean

Larsen.

Burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, IA,

Beaulieu, Kathryne Luella Hetz -

Kathryne was born in Lenox IA to Mary Elizabeth Kilby and Norman Beach Hetz, February 22, 1941. She

moved to San Diego, CA in October, 1941 with her parents. She lived in San Diego until September, 1987 and then

moved to Mariposa with her husband, Francis. She lived from 1987 to her passing. She passed away Sunday

February 8, 2004.

She is survived by her husband, Francis; a daughter, Denise (husband), Carl; three grandchildren; Brittany,

Victoria and Kevin; son Michael (wife) Desirae; a son, Richard.

Her husband said of her; she worked diligently for 35 years in her Church Community, San Diego; at the Santa

Sophia Catholic Church. She worked for 12 years in Yosemite National Park at the Wawona Hotel as assistant

dining room manager, 9 years and manager of the dining room for 3 years. She enjoyed every minute she spent

in all of these activities.

The family requested no floral tributes; instead friends may donate to John C. Fremont Home Health,

Mariposa, CA.

Services were held at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Mariposa, CA. They were conducted by Reverend

Stephen C Butler.

Beck, Pearl Florence Baker -

Pearl Florence Baker was born September 15, 1905 the daughter of Frank and Mabel (Sargent) Baker

near Clearfield, IA. She attended country school and graduated from Clearfield High School in

1924. She attended Simpson College for one year majoring in Home Economics, and the attended the

University of Iowa School of Nursing.

Pearl was united in marriage to Henry George Beck on December 22, 1927 and to this union five children

were born: Vaunceil, Melvin, Marilyn, Carolene and Reldon. Henry and Pearl lived on the family farm all of

their married life until moving to Taylor Ridge Estates in November 2000.

Pearl was a member of Calvary Methodist Church and later transferred to the Lenox United Methodist

Church. She participated in many Church activities. She also was a member of the Neighborhood Club

and Jolly Time Club. She enjoyed sewing for her family and making quilts in the winter. In the summertime

she liked to garden and spent many hours tending to her flowers.

Left to cherish Pearl's memory are a son, Reldon (wife Margaret) Beck, Las Cruces, NM; three daughters,

Vaunceil Brott, Clearfield, Marilyn Wren, Indianola and Carolene (husband) William) Walter, Indianola; ten

grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Preceding Pearl in death were her parents, husband Henry, an infant son, Melvin; one brother, Ernest; three

sisters, Fannie, Bessie and Laura and two sons-in-law, Lowell Brott and Max Wren.

Boltinghouse, Maysel Evelyn Grimm -

Funeral services for Maysel Boltinghouse, age 91, of Lenox were he1d January 14, 2004, at the Lenox Christian Church

with Pastor Tim Maxa officiating. Music was provided by Janice Christensen, Karen Shawler and Shirley Riley. Casket bearers

were James Boltinghouse, Gary Christensen, Craig Donaldson, Tom Christensen, Jack Grimm, and John Fraley.

Honorary casket bearers were Bob Grimm, Ernie Hufnagel, Kenneth Riley, Donald Donaldson, W. Ernest Bryant, Gail

Boltinghouse, Roland Boltinghouse, Leo Sobotka, R D Boyer and Dean Larimer. Interment was in North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox.

Arrangements were by Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Maysel Evelyn Grimm Boltinghouse was born near Sharpsburg on August 11, 1912, to Lloyd and Flo Lovitt Grimm. Maysel passed

away on Jan. 11, 2004, at the age of 91 years, 5 months.

She was the third child of Lloyd and Flo. Her education began in a country school, and she graduated with honors with the

Sharpsburg Community School Class of 1931.

Following graduation, Maysel took State Teachers Normal Training courses at Red Oak, through Iowa State Teachers College,

Cedar Falls. She taught two years at Chenaworth School, Holt Township, and three years at Beachdale School in Grove Township,

Taylor County, Iowa.

On Sept. 3, 1936, she was united in marriage to Kenneth LeRoy Boltinghouse in Rockville, Maryland. During their time in Washington

D.C., Maysel was employed by Peoples Drug Co., where she received many honors for her salesmanship of cosmetics.

In the fall of 1940, Kenneth and Maysel purchased a farm southwest of Lenox, where they made their home for 42 years. She was

a full working partner in their farming operation.

Annually she cared for hundreds of baby chicks and other poultry. Maysel enjoyed caring for the many varieties of gloxinia houseplants.

She gave her life to Christ on April 12, 1942, at the Lenox Church of Christ, where she was an active member in the Christian

Women's Fellowship.

On Jan. 29, 1947, Kenneth and Maysel were blessed with the birth of a daughter Adena Kay.

They had a livestock and machinery farm sale on Jan. 3, 1975. In 1982 they moved into Lenox. Kenneth and Maysel always enjoyed

attending farm auctions and selecting antiques.

Along with her interest in antiques, Maysel was a member of the Jolly Neighbors Club and the H.S. Club. She enjoyed cooking.

Besides caring for her geraniums and roses, Maysel enjoyed having guests to her home. She had an interest in both nature and

photography and has visited many historical landmarks. She was a special lady who was very conscientious, and education was an

important aspect to her life.

Survivors include daughter Adena Kay Fraley (husband Paul) of Sylvania, Ohio, grandchildren John Houston Fraley and Elizabeth

Ann Fraley, both of Sylvania, Ohio, brother Bob Grimm (wife Marianne) of Scottsdale, Ariz., sister Mildred Donaldson of Sharpsburg,

sister-in-law Arlene Grimm of Winterset; and many nieces, nephews and friends

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Flo Grimm; and two brothers Harlan Grimm in 1981 and Wyatt Grimm in 1998.

Fay, Max Edward -

Max Edward Fay, age 55, of Purdum, NE. died Monday, January 5, 2004 in Kearney, NE. Survivors include

a brother, Paul, of Lenox.

He was born September 16, 1948, in Atlantic, IA to Mead and Isabelle (Rhoads) Fay. He graduated from Anita,

IA High School in 1966 and enlisted in the Army, serving in Germany 1968-1970.

In 1971 Max answered an ad for a ranch hand and bought a one way ticket to Purdum, NE. He loved this area,

becoming a true "sand hiller". He met and married the love of his life, Karen Johnston in July 1977. They had two children

and lived the last 22 years on a ranch North of Purdum. (The same ranch where he first worked.)

Max rodeoed throughout his younger years and had attended a "farrier school" in Tennessee in 1977. His

knowledge and way with horses was invaluable to the area ranchers for whom he worked.

Max was a devoted Man of God, being baptized into the Broken Bow 7th Day Adventist Church in 1977,

remaining a member there throughout his years. After his love of God, his wife and children, Max

loved horses, reading, attending farm sales and just visiting. One of his favorite sayings was "A stranger is just a friend

you haven't met."

Max is survived by his wife, Karen, daughter, Mindy of Omaha, NE.; son, "little" Max of North Platte, NE.;

parents, Mead and Isabelle Fay, Corning, IA; Brothers, Tim, Corning; Paul (wile Betty), Lenox, Mick (wife Kathy),

Lewis, IA, father and mother-in-law Ken (wife Sue), Johnston, Brewster, NE; sister-in-law, Kay (husband Dan)

Schenck, St. Paul, NE.; numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim in 1969. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday,

January 11, 2004, in Brewster, at the Community Hall.

Memorials may be sent to the family at HC 76, Box 9 Purdum, NE. 69157.

Max was a man who walked daily with God and was an inspiration to many.

Freemyer, Alvis Dean -

Funeral services for Alvis Freemyer, age 74, who died Friday, January 2, 2004, were held Monday, January 5,

2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home with Pastor William Ballard officiating. Interment with military rites

accorded by the John F. Hardin American Legion Post No. 164 were held in the Athelstan Cemetery. Memorials can be

given in his name. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

Alvis Dean Freemyer was born February 22, 1929, in Blue Earth, Minnesota, the son of Ansel J. Freemyer and

Lilah Ellen Sickels Freemyer. He graduated with the Class of 1948 from the Conway High School. Following

graduation, Alvis served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War.

After his discharge, he attended business school in Kansas. Later, Alvis had a milk delivery service and managed the

lumberyard in Stockton, Kansas. In 1957, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Lowry to bless his life, two daughters

were born, Sheila and Shannon.

Alvis moved to Denver, Colorado in the mid 1960's where he was employed at Stearns & Rogers for twenty five

years as a Field Accountant. After his retirement in 1993, he moved back to his home state of Iowa to be near his

mother and other family members. He remained on his acreage east of Clarinda until a debilitating stroke in October

of 2001 left him unable to care for himself. He then resided at West Ridge Quality Care until his death.

Alvis enjoyed outdoor activities. He had a passion for horses, enjoyed taking trips on his motorcycle and camping.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Lilah Freemyer of Clarinda; a daughter, Sheila Dacy and husband Dan of

McPherson, Kansas; four sisters, Marcelene Goudie of Clarinda; Betty Beemer and husband Dean of Cody, Wyoming;

Virginia Slemp and husband Loren of Union, Missouri; and Carolyn Hiatt and husband Bruce of Brighton, Colorado; along

with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding Alvis in death are his father and daughter Shannon in 1978.

Hallenbeck, Vern Robert -

Vern Robert Hallenbeck was born on May 18, 1916 at Elgin, MN. He was one of two sons born to the late Robert

R. and Clarissa Evans Hallenbeck.

Vern received his high school diploma in Reedsburg, WN. He received his Bachelor of Music Degree from

Lawrence University in Appleton, WN and his Masters Degree in Music Education from the American Conservatory

in Chicago, ILL. In November of 1942 Vern was drafted into the U. S. Army. Vern entertained enlisted men by

playing musical instruments and was discharged in October of 1945. On July 6, 1954 he was united in marriage

with Louise Straight at Platteville, IA. Vern was a public school teacher who taught music for 16 years. He

then became a school library consultant at the TENCO Regional Schools Materials Center in Lebanon, MO. In 1968

Vern underwent major surgery followed by a recuperation period. In 1969 he became the assistant librarian at Central

College in Pella, IA. Vern retired as the Director of Technical Services at the Central College Library in 1983. Vern

coped with his physical deficiencies with comeliness. In April of 2002 he became a resident in the Sheltered Care

Unit at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella where he passed away on December 23, 2003 at the age of 87 years.

Vern is survived by his wife, Louise S. Hallenbeck of Pella; and her family: Jon and Sydney Vogel and their children

of Arvada.CO.; Luella Straight and her family of Bedford, IA.; and his cousins.

Inurnment will be made at a later date at the Platteville Cemetery at Bedford, IA. For those desiring, memorials may

be designated for the Platteville Cemetery at Bedford, IA or the reference library at Central College in

Pella, IA.

Larsen, Boyd Russel -

Boyd Russel Larsen, 72, Clearfield, died January 15, 2004 at the Greater Community Hospital, Creston.

Boyd, son of Fern (Quartz) and Chris Larsen was born January 22, 1931, in Loup City, NE. The family moved to

Westboro, Mo., in 1941 and then to the family farm South of Clearfield in Ringgold County in 1943. He attended country

school thru the 8th grade and graduated from Clearfield High School in 1948. Boyd was united in marriage to Cleota

Horton, October 29, 1949. To this union four children were born. Boyd and Cleota farmed South of Clearfield until

1998, moving to town in 1986. Boyd sold Moorman's Feed for 19 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the

Clearfield United Methodist Church, Clearfield Lions Club, 17 Club and Night Bridge Club. He served as a member and

past president of Clearfield Community School Board. Boyd was a great sports enthusiast, enjoying the many sporting

activities of his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Cleota; four children, Kenny (wife Dixie), Clearfield, Carol Worthington, San Marcos, TX,

Colleen (husband Fred) Gower, Olathe, KS. Keith (wife Sherry), Olathe, KS., and eight grandchildren; brothers Glen

(wife Helen) and Jim (wife Eleanor); sisters-in-law Dorothea Larsen, Darlene Larsen, Priscilla Harvey, Kay

(husband Lanny) Douglas, and Carol Lee (husband Ray) Fisher.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Orrin, Richard and Harold; brothers-in-law, Vernie, Bob and

John Horton.

Memorials are to the Hospice of Central Iowa at Mount Ayr and the Dialysis Unit at Greater Community Hospital,

Creston.

The services were held on Sunday, January 18, 2004 at the United Methodist Church, Clearfield. The Rev. Len

Garrison officiated. Music was by Randy Trost and included: "Daddy's Hands" and "Go Rest High On The Mountain". The

casket Bearers were Ray Dean Larsen, Bill Larsen, Ed Douglas, Monty Douglas, Jerry Brown and Doug Horton.

Burial was in the Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield.

Wilson- Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Long, Opal Carl -

Opal Long, Prescott, passed away at  the Creston Nursing and Rehab in Creston on February 16, 2004. Services were

held at 1:30 p.m. Friday February 20, 2004, Prescott United Church (Disciples of Christ). Rev. Jeanne Groom, had the

services. She was cremated after the services.

Opal was born March 13, 1921, Rural Prescott (near Williamson); the daughter of Myrtle (Schrader) and Elmer Carl.

She was married December 17, 1948 to Almon Long in Greenfield, IA. She was a homemaker all of her life. She was a

member of the Prescott United Church (Disciples of Christ). She is survived by a son, Steve Long, Prescott; a

daughter, Patty Long, Macksburg. She is also survived by three sisters: Marie Pool, Orient, Doris Carl, Bridgewater;

Hazel (husband Lawrence) Palma, Prescott.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, Husband in 1975 and a son Richard Moats.

Services were conducted by Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to the Prescott

First Responders, or to Family Home Health Care, Corning.

Miller, Cheri Jean Hess -

Funeral services for Cheri Miller, age 39, of Lenox, who died Saturday, January 10, 2004, were held Wednesday,

January 14, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Stringtown Church with Pastor Roy Cook officiating. Private family interment will be

held at a later date. Memorials can be given in Cheri's name. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of

Lenox

Cheri Jean (Hess) Miller was born January 7, 1965, in Creston, Iowa the daughter of John Dean Hess and Opal

Margaret Camden Hess. She entered into her eternal rest at her home in Lenox at the age of 39 years and 3 days.

On June 4, 1982, she was united in marriage to Garland D. Miller at the Mt. Etna Church of the Brethren. Cheri graduated

from the Lenox High School with the Class of 1983, achieving the honor of never missing a day of school during those four

high school years.

Cheri was actively involved in Special Olympics for several years. It seemed like she was always doing something for someone.

She made quilts for the babies and sewed special outfits for children, as they grew older. She was involved in nearly every

special occasion or celebration, even when we knew she was not really feeling up to it. Over the past few years,

Cheri became very active in the Stringtown Church. She especially liked to help with the dinners, bazaars and attend bible study.

Although Cheri never gave birth to any children of her own, she was very much involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews.

As the kids grew older, they learned that Cheri had a way of getting them to help her with something while making them think

it was their idea.

She always had a garden and made sure that there were plenty of tomatoes, even though she did not eat them herself. She

also has her 'kids' help pick peaches every year.

Left to cherish Cheri's memory are her loving husband Garland; mother and step-father Opal and Clarence Hawkinson;

grandmother Wilma Hess; two sisters, Sue Armstrong and husband Doug and Cindy Saucedo and husband Raul; a brother,

Ronnie Camden and special friend Rachel; a step-brother, Gary Hawkinson and wife Velma; a step-sister, Sue Dugan and

husband Todd; a half-sister, Kimberly Hess; two half-brothers, Billy Hess and David Hess and wife Elizabeth; four aunts,

Jo Helm and husband Reed; Judy Browning and husband Bill; Kay Camden and Joyce Probasco; a great-uncle Ben Camden;

mother-in-law, Ruby Miller; sister-in-law, Norma Kingery and husband Ron; eighteen nieces and nephews, twenty-six great-nieces

and nephews and numerous cousins and a host of friends.

Preceding Cheri in death are her maternal grandparents, Roy and Florence Camden; two uncles, Jack Camden and Jim Camden;

a sister, Joanny Hess; two nieces, Amber and Anita Rumley; her father, John Hess, and father-in-law, Clifford A. Miller.

Reimer, Georgia Caldwell -

Georgia (Caldwell) Reimer passed away January 3, 2004.

Georgia was a 1941 graduate of Lenox High School. She married Robert "Bob" Reimer on June 6, 1941. During their

early years Bob worked at Arnold's Funeral Home and Georgia worked at the Lenox Time Table.

In 1954 Bob, Georgia and their two sons, Tracy and Troy, moved to Des Moines. Bob continued to work at Arnold's

Funeral Home, Des Moines; and Georgia worked for the Des Moines Chamber of Commerce.

In 1958, the family moved to Tucson, AZ. Bob became a sales representative for a local Audio Visual outlet and Georgia

held various positions at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Bob passed away in 1980 and Georgia continued to work at St. Joseph's until she retired, as Director of Volunteer's, in

1989.

Georgia continued to be involved in volunteer work at her community at Sun City, Victosa, AZ, during her retirement

years .'"Georgia' stayed in touch with many of her former high school classmates and enjoyed sharing correspondence. She is

survived by her sons, their wives Dale Reimer (Tracy), Marty Reimer (Troy) and her four grandchildren; Steven, Katie,

Christian and Amy (Mrs Justin Lewis).

Hilda E. Skinner, age 97, passed away on December 13 at Heather Manor Retirement Center, Des Moines, IA. Hilda

was born on December 26, 1905, to Ernest and Mary Etta Skinner in Clearfield. Her mother and grandmother Grant sat

in the sun on the front porch on December 25. The day Hilda was born, grandmother Skinner had to walk through snow

drifts to see the new baby.

She became a member of the Clearfield Christian Church in 1915 and played the piano for Sunday School. She

attended grades and high school in Clearfield and graduated in 1924 with honors.

Following high school graduation, she traveled by train to Cedar Falls to enroll in Iowa State Teachers College. Hilda

received a Primary Teaching Diploma from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1927.

She taught first and second grades in Clearfield from 1927 through 1930. Her sister, Margaret, was in her class.

During the years she taught in Clearfield, she lived with her parents, played the piano for Church, enjoyed bridge clubs

with teachers who roomed and boarded in Clearfield homes. During her teaching career, she attended summer classes

with friends at Iowa State Teachers College, National College of Education, Evanston, ILL, and Colorado University,

Boulder. She graduated in 1945 with a B.A. Degree in Primary Education from Northern Iowa University, Cedar Falls,

IA. with credits toward a Masters Degree.

Her teaching career took her to Villisca (1930-1937), Oak Creek, CO., (1937-1938), Grinnell, (1938-1944),

Galesburg, ILL., (1944-1959), and Northern Kansas City (1959-1960). She had planned to teach in Kansas City until

she retired, but when her mother became ill, Hilda returned to Clearfield. She was offered the teaching position in first

grade. For the next 12 years, she taught first grade in Clearfield and retired in 1973. While Hilda taught in

Clearfield, she was active in many community projects; Christian Church, Library Board, Literary Clubs, Bridge

Clubs, and was co-president of the Women's Club. She organized a children's reading center in the Library.

She loved to travel with her many friends and had been all over the United States and in some foreign countries.

In 1987. she sold the home that had been in the family since 1900 and moved to an apartment in a teachers'

retirement center (Heather Manor) in Des Moines. From 1987-1994, she volunteered at Lucas School (Des Moines

Public School System) and did personal tutoring, read to the blind, and participated in the Pen Pal program for three

years. For five years, the Governor of Iowa honored Hilda for her volunteering in the schools and had lunch with her at

Heather Manor. She enjoyed her many friends, reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and participating in the

many activities in Heather Manor.

Survivors include her sister Margaret Kmiotek, brother-in-law Stan, nieces Linda and Stephanie, nephew Michael

Kmiotek, (Maria), and great nephew Mike Kmiotek.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Donald.

Funeral services were held at the Clearfield Christian Church and burial was in the Clearfield Cemetery,

Teatsworth, Homer Clyde -

Funeral services were held on Feb. 16 for Homer Clyde Teatsworth of Lenox, who passed away Feb. 12 in

Mount Ayr at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 7 days. The services were held at Coen-Beaty Person Family

Funeral Service in Lenox with Rev. Eydie Stephens officiating.

Casket bearers were Curly Stream, Dan Carruthers, Dale Purdum, Dean Larimer, Lanny Douglas and John Edison.

Musicians were Jan Beach, Billie Jean Barker and Lahni Robinson. Interment was in West Fairview Cemetery Lenox

with military honors by Parkinson Post 250, Lenox American Legion.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lenox American Legion and Lenox Ambulance Service.

Homer Clyde Teatsworth was born Dec. 5, 1917, in Shenandoah to Art and Agnes (Conwell) Teatsworth.

Homer moved in Lenox in 1939, lived a short time in Wisconsin, and returned to Lenox in 1947. He married Lela

Zoe Amburn on Jan. 22, 1941, at Kent. The couple had three children; Catherine, Patricia and Richard.

He was a veteran of World War II, entering the U.S. Army on June 4, 1943 and serving his country until

discharged on Oct. 11, 1945. During this period, he received three bronze stars and a good conduct medal.

Homer farmed as a young man in Wisconsin. He worked for the City of Lenox about six months, and also worked for

Eclipse Lumber, Country Boys and Lenox Lumber.

He was a long-time member of the First Christian Church in Lenox, where he served as a deacon for several years He

served one year on the church board. Homer was a lifetime member of the American Legion Parkinson Post 250.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Emmet Teatsworth; and one sister, Helen McCain.

Survivors include his wife, Lela, of Lenox; children Catherine (husband Melvin) Weese of Camanche, Iowa

Patricia Boyer of Omaha, and Richard (wife Dorothy) Teatsworth of Milwaukee, Ore.; 10 grandchildren, nine great

grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Young, Agnes Christensen -

Agnes Young, Britt, IA (formerly of Lenox) passed away at the Westview Care Center, Britt, IA on February 16,

2004.

Services were held on Thursday, February 19, 2004 at the Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service. Rev. Ray

Block, 1st Lutheran Church conducted the service. Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Cromwell, IA.

Agnes was born July 8, 1921 in Massena to Chris and Sofie Christensen. She was married to Harold Young, February

 1941 in Lenox. She married Kenneth Young, March 27, 1967, Lenox.

She was a homemaker and worked for a short time as a custodian at the Presbyterian Church, Linn Grove, IA. She also

worked for the Rolfe Arrow, Rolfe, IA.; and at the Lenox Care Center for a short time.

She is survived by daughters: Cheral (husband John) Morgan, Clear Lake, IA., and Joyce Means, Creston; a son,

Harold Young, Jr., Gunnison, CO.; a sister Mabel Jensen, Knoxville, IA.; Three grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren,

Terry & Todd Applegate and Lance Means and their families, sister-in-law, Regina Christensen, Creston; brother-in-law

& sister-in-law, Bill & Roberta Young Lenox, step-daughter, Rita Young, Des Moines, IA and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Husband Kenny in 1998; 5 sisters, Dagmar Christensen, Clara Christensen,

Rose Karras, Violet Beal; a sister who died as a child in Denmark, 2 brothers, Harold Christensen and an infant brother;

and son-in-law, Eugene Applegate.

Agnes was a graduate of the Kent High School with the class of 1938

She was active in the Methodist Church wherever she lived and taught Sunday School for Young Women for 20 years.
