Bassett, Orville C -

Orville C. Bassett, 73, longtime Lenox businessman, died Sunday, July 19th. Mr. Bassett had attended the Horse Show  Saturday night in Lenox and collapsed while watching the performance. He was taken to Rosary hospital in Corning where he died early Sunday.

Orville C. Bassett, son of Samuel and Jennie Clark Bassett, was born at Oelwein, Fayette County, Iowa, August 14, 1896, and passed away at Rosary Hospital,

Corning, Iowa, July 19th, 1970.

He moved to Corning in 1903 with his parents to a part of what is known as the Old French Colony. He was one of eight children. His eldest brother, Thomas, died

when a small boy, The other brothers were Roy, Earl, and Clarence, who have all preceded him in death. Also one sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Stella) Grecian.

One sister, Mrs. Robert (Gladys) Badgett of Corning, survives him.

On March 10, 1910 he was married to Erma Haviland. One son, Leon, was born to this union. He passed away Nov. 29, 1968.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, a grandson, John Bassett, wife Laura, and great granddaughter Heather of Phoenix, New York and daughter-in-law, Mary Helen Bassett of Syracuse, New York.

He has been a member of the United Methodist Church since a young boy and served as usher of the Lenox Church for many years. He was a member of Tremont Lodge, No 343, A.F. and A. M. since 1941 and served almost 24 years as treasurer of the Lodge.

The first two years he was married, he farmed at Corning, Iowa, and for the last 45 years was engaged in the shoe repair business in Lenox.

He will be missed by family and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m., with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor of the Methodist Church officiating.

Music was furnished by Norma Payonal.

Masonic rites were given.

Bearers were Elmer Bose, Glen Odson, Dale Purdum, John Borland, Kenneth Black and Robert Remolds, 

Burial was in Walnut Grove cemetery at Corning, Iowa.

Boulden, William T -

William T. Boulden, 75, resident of Lenox since 1960, died Tuesday morning at Rosary hospital in Corning following a gradual decline in health.

Mr. Boulden was born May 30, 1895 at Missouri Valley, Ia and spent most of his boyhood and adult life there.

He retired  in 1960 and with his wife Florence, moved to Lenox.

He was united in marriage to Florence R. Long on September 24, 1919 at Council Bluffs, Ia and to this union one son, Roger, was born. Most of his life was spent in the lumber and building business. Mr Boulden was an ardent sportsman and enjoyed this hobby following his retirement.

Survivors include his widow, Florence, one son, Dr. Roger W Boulden, daughter-in-law, Betty, and three grandsons, Bill, Bob and Dick. Also surviving is one sister, Hazel Stevens of Denver, Colorado, many cousins nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, June 5th from the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox, with Rev. Donald Briley, Pastor of the Christian Church, officiating. Services will be at 2 o'clock. There will be a Memorial at the funeral home for the Heart Fund.

Burial will be in Fairview cemetery at Lenox, Iowa.

Boulden, William T -

William T. Boulden was born May 30, 1895 at Missouri Valley, Iowa, and passed away at Rosary hospital, Corning, Iowa on June 2, 1970 at the age of 75 years and 3 days.

He spent all of his boyhood and most of his adult life in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Upon retirement in 1960, he moved with his wife, Florence, to Lenox, Iowa, to spend his retirement years here with his son and family, Dr. Roger W Boulden, M.D.

As a young man he enlisted in the army in World War I, and was sent overseas with the 1st Division which engaged in many of the major battles in France. He was wounded in action and was given a medical discharge.

Upon his return to the United States in 1919, he married Florence R. Long on September 24, 1919, at Council Bluffs. One son, Dr. Roger Boulden, was born to this marriage.

He was active in American Legion affairs, was a member of the Masonic lodge and was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Missouri Valley.

His life was busily occupied in the lumber and building business.  He was an ardent sportsman until later years when his failing health forced him to give up these pleasures.

He is survived by his wife, Florence, his son, Roger, his daughter-in-law, Betty, and three grandsons, Bill, Bob and Rick, all of Lenox. He also has one surviving sister, Hazel Stevens, of Denver, Colorado as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, June 5th at 2 p.m., at the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox. Rev. Don Briley, pastor of the Christian Church officiated.

Bearers were Paul Hand, Don Thomson, Robert Boulden, Robert Hammang, Richard Boulden and William Boulden.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Cree, Ora L -

Ora L. Cree of Lenox, Iowa, died at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa, Aug. 1st, after a short illness.

Ora L. Cree, son of Daniel Robert and Ada Lauretta Cree, was born in Page County near Clarinda, Iowa, Dec. 2, 1891, and died at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 29 days.

On April 26, 1913, he was married to Charlotte Lou Lewis.  To them two daughters were born.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, wife, one brother and one sister.

He is survived by two daughters, Gwendolyn M. Huss and Darlyne C. Shipley, two sons-in-law, Charles A. Huss and Max A. Shipley, all of Lenox, Iowa, one brother, Glenn I. Cree of Colorado Springs, Colo., three sisters, Rilda E. Ginn of Gravity, Elva M. West of Denver, Colo., Ada Lauretta Gillette of Sharpsburg, Iowa.

He was a veteran of World War I.

Mr. Cree accepted Christ as his Saviour at an early age. He united with the Oak Hill church and remained a member at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Gravity, Iowa, at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, August. 3, 1970, conducted by the Rev. D. L. Draper.

Burial was in the Gravity cemetery.

Drorbaugh, Elizabeth Ila Seamans -

Mrs. Elizabeth Drorbaugh, 88, of Lenox, died at the Lenox Nursing Home early Sunday morning.

Mrs. Drorbaugh was born in Kansas August 12, 1881, and moved to the Creston community when she was about a year old. The family farmed south of Lenox before returning to the Creston area in 1903 where her father operated a hardware store.

She was united in marriage to Harry Drorbaugh in May of 1906 and they farmed in the Creston and Kent vicinities until 1930 when they moved to a farm east of Lenox. They retired in 1959 and moved to Lenox. Mr. Drorbaugh died in 1960.

Left to survive are three daughters, Mrs. Thirza Hucke of Kent, Mrs. Leota Hall of Manilla and Mrs. Betty Wilson of Corning, a son, Harry of Creston, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church in Lenox Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the pastor, Rev. Don Briley, officiating.

Music was furnished by Mildred Walter and Ruth Boltinghouse.

Bearers were Don Bubb, Gene Paymal, Glenn Douglas, Raymond Dill, Everett Symonds and Herman Haering.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Drorbaugh, Elizabeth Ila Seamans -

Elizabeth Ila Drorbaugh, the daughter of Marvin Asa and Mary Seamans was born in Cawker City, Kansas Aug. 12th, 1881. She passed away at the Lenox Nursing Home on June 7th, 1970. Elizabeth moved with her parents to Creston, Iowa, in 1882, later moving to a farm five miles south of Lenox where the family lived seventeen

years. May 17th, 1906, she was united in marriage to Harry M. Drorbaugh at her parents' home near Creston. They lived on farms in the Kent and Creston

vicinity until moving to their farm east of Lenox in 1930. They retired to the home in Lenox in 1959. Her church membership was transferred from the Kent Methodist Church to the First Christian Church in Lenox where she was a faithful attendant as long as her health permitted.

Surviving are the four children: Thirza and husband Dayton Hucke, Leota and husband Allen Hall, twins Betty and Bob. Betty and husband Donald Wilson, Harry Jr. Drorbaugh and wife Marjorie and eight grandchildren Marilyn Hucke Erickson, Gary Hall, Anita Hall Benda, Donna Wilson West, Angle Wilson, Mickey Wilson,

Vallerie Drorbaugh, and Jerry Cartwright. There are nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, March 9th, nineteen sixty, two grandsons, parents, one brother, Asa, two sisters, Mabel Fleming and Floy Short. Her Bible reading and study and music meant so much to her during her lifetime.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church in Lenox, June 9th, 1970, with Rev. Donald Briley officiating.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery at Lenox.

Mrs. Mildred Walter sang "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden" accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Ruth Boltinghouse.

Pall bearers were Donald Bubb, Glenn Douglas, Everett Symonds, Eugene Paymal, Raymond Dill and Herman Haering.

Dunlap, Edna C McCahan -

Mrs. Edna C. Dunlap, former Lenox resident, died May 12 1970, in Pomona, California, at the age of 83 years.

She was the daughter of John and Letty Henry McCahan. She was married to William K. Dunlap in Lenox, where they resided until moving to Pomona in

1920. Mr. Dunlap died in 1946.

Mrs. Dunlap is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Donna Boots, and three sons, Vaughn, Milo and Lee, all of California.

Funeral services were held May 15th in the First Presbyterian Church and burial was in the Pomona cemetery.

Firkins, Gertie Branan -

Gertie Branan Firkins, daughter of Viola Wolfe and Wilbur Branan, was born April 21, 1892, in Poweshiek County, Iowa, and passed away June 19, 1970 at the Rosary hospital in Corning, Iowa, at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 28 days. She spent her early childhood in Keokuk County before moving with her parents, brothers

and sisters to settle in Taylor County near Guss.

She was united in marriage to George W. Firkins on February 18, 1914. To this union was born one son, Cecil Howard, living at home, and five daughters, Ethel Dorlena Findley of Antioch, California, Viola Verlene Brand of Sharpsburg, Iowa, Verneita, deceased, Aneita Vergene, deceased, and Bessie Imel of Safford, Arizona.

She is survived by her husband, George, her four children, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, three sons-in-law, Clarence Findley, Carl Brand, Marvin Imel, one brother, Gilbert Branan of Clarinda, three sisters, May Stephens of Diagonal, Grace Konecne of Corning, Iowa, Hester Case of Holdredge, Nebr., and a host

of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Clayton and Emery, two daughters and one granddaughter.

Her past time was crocheting, tatting and piecing quilts. Her greatest delight was seeing the smile on a new mother's face when she handed them a baby

quilt. She enjoyed her neighborhood club and Senior Citizens Club in Lenox; spreading her love and joy to all ages.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held from the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox Monday afternoon, June 22nd at 1:30 with Rev. John Wagner, pastor of the Salem church, officiating.

Music was furnished by Pauline Wilson and Lula Mae Beck.

Bearers were John Cade, Ernest Nook, Byron Northup, Glenn Williams, Melvin Williams and Roland Boltinghouse.

Burial was in the cemetery at Guss, Iowa.

Gray, Alvin Irvin -

Alvin Irvin Gray, son of William and Mary Snodgrass Gray, was born March 4, 1883 in Adams county near Stringtown, and passed away June 26, 1970

at the Rosary hospital in Corning at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 22 days.

On June 6, 1920, he married Charlotte Wheatley and to this union two daughters were born, Mrs. Ruby Callahan of Lenox and Mrs. Dorothy Drennan of

Mt. Etna.

In addition to his wife and two daughters, he is survived by two sons-in-law, Bob Callahan and Donald Drennan, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two brothers, Perry of Lenox, and Jesse of Ellendale, North Dakota, and one sister, Mrs. Zetta Hawthorne of LaCrescenta, California and a host of friends and

relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Margaret Schmit, one brother, Elmer, and one sister, Myrtle Hanna.

He spent his entire life in the Lenox community.

He united with the Presbyterian Church at an early age. In 1926, he was ordained an elder and served in that office until 1951. Later he transferred his membership to the Methodist Church in Lenox where he served on the church board and was an active member of the Adult Sunday School class.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, June 29th at the Lenox United Methodist Church with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, officiating.

Bearers were Richard Gray, Charles Gray, Cleo Hawthorne, Clifford Hawthorne, Jim Briles and Harvey Briles.

Music was furnished by Roland Buxton and Norma Paymal.

Interment was in the Lenox Fairview cemetery.

Hayes, Raymond Mount -

Raymond Hayes, 75, long-time resident of the Lenox area, died Friday, August 7th at Corning.

Raymond Mount Hayes, son of Robert and Dora Hayes, was born November 10, 1895 in Miami, Oklahoma, and departed this life August 7th in the Rosary Hospital at Corning. While a small child, Mr. Hayes moved with his family to Montgomery County, Iowa, and after living there a few years, moved to a farm near Lenox.

On December 1, 1917, Ray and Jennie Rogers of Lenox were united in marriage. They spent the next 45 years on a farm west of Lenox and were blessed

with two sons and a daughter.

He is survived by his wife Jennie, two sons, Kenneth Wayne Hayes of Des Moines and his wife, Gwen and their children, Gary and his wife Jean, Pamela

and Steve, Robert Allan Hayes of Perry, his wife, Genevieve and children Patti and David, daughter Lois Jean of Altoona, her husband, Clark Brashear,

and their children, Mark, Don, John, Paul and Cheryl and two sisters, Mrs. Roy Kerns and Mrs. Tom Grimm, both of Sharpsburg and two brothers-in-law, Roy Kerns and Tom Grimm, many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two infant sisters and a grandson.

At an early age he joined the Greenwood Church and when he married he transferred to the Presbyterian Church in Lenox where he was an active member for many years. He was a brother in the IOOF Lodge and Rebekahs for 47 years.

Ray and Jennie were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in December, 1967.

Ray was a lifetime farmer and carpenter, but he will be best remembered by his family and friends for his extreme family love, cheerfulness, humor

and high understanding. There is a great loss from the passing of Ray Hayes and one which will be felt by all of us, and especially his family.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, August 10th at 2 p.m., from the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox with Rev. Wallace Nelson officiating.

Music was furnished by Bonnie Schrader and Gwendolyn Maynes with Roberta Lockhart, accompanist.

Bearers were Don Tully, Earle Lillie, Carl Sexton, Wilbur Rong, Geo. Ferguson and Clarence Olson.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Hogue, Lawrence Lewis -

Lawrence Lewis Hogue, 52, son of Archie and Bessie Hogue, was born near Tarkio, Missouri, November 17, 1917 and departed this life June 25, 1970 at the

Veterans hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

He attended school in Tarkio and enlisted in the army and served in New Guinea, the Phillippines and Japan in a medical battalion. After being discharged he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Hamblin March 3, 1941. To this union three children were born, Cora Ann Para who with her husband is stationed in Turkey,

Linda Sue Mullen of Bedford, Iowa, and Billy Wayne, who is serving in Vietnam.

He united with the Presbyterian Church and served as Deacon. He joined the Masonic Lodge of Conway and served as Master of the Lodge.

He is survived by his wife and children, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hogue of Cabool, Mo., three sister, Vivian Waters, Sikeston, Mo., Mildred Logsdon, Kansas City, Mo., and Verna Lee Smith of St. Louis, Mo., two brothers, Archie Hogue of San Francisco, California and Billy Hogue of Nixa, Mo., many nieces and nephews,

and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was a loving and kind husband and father, son and brother. He will be missed by all who loved him.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Sharpsburg Sunday afternoon, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor of the United

Methodist Church, officiating.

Music was furnished by Pauline Wilson and Donna Cribbs.

Bearers were Frank Wehrle, Robert Brown, Kenneth Breach, Thurman Curphy, Don Donaldson and Clifford Nook.

Burial was in the cemetery at Gravity.

Holmes, Mary Elizabeth Williams -

Mary E. Holmes, 80, died Tuesday evening at the Lenox Nursing Home where she had been a resident several years. She had been a resident of the

Lenox community approximately twenty years.

Among the survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Clifford Wurster of Lenox, Mrs. Lulu Thompson of Cameron, Mo., and Mrs. Martha Aigaki of Blythe, California.

Her husband, Joseph, preceded her in death in 1957.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, July 10th at 3 o'clock in Gallatin, Mo.

Visitation hours will be at the Bender Funeral Home tonight.

The body will be taken to Gallatin Friday morning.

Holmes, Mary Elizabeth Williams -

Mary Elizabeth Holmes, daughter of Ira Williams and Martha Melvina Troxel, died at the Nursing Home in Lenox July 7th, 1970, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 6 days.

She was born March 2, 1890 near Jameson, Mo. She was married to Joseph Henry Holmes March 3, 1907. To this union seven children were born, three sons, John, Earl and Charles, and four daughters, Beulah, Lula, Martha and Mary.

Her husband passed away May 9th, 1957. Also three sons and one daughter preceded her in death.

Mary was the last living member in her family of three sisters and four brothers. Also two grandsons and one granddaughter preceded her in death.

Mary Holmes joined the Christian Church at an early age in life at Gallatin, Mo. After moving to Iowa, she transferred her membership into the Christian Church at Lenox.

Before giving up her home she received much enjoyment in raising her many lovely flowers and nice gardens. She had lived in this vicinity for thirty three years.

She leaves to mourn three daughters, Mrs. Charlie (Martha) Aigaki of Blythe, Calif., Mrs. Leslie (Lula) Thompson of Cameron, Mo., and Mrs. Clifford (Mary) Wurster of Lenox, Iowa. Also three sons-in-law, nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Services were held at the Hope Funeral Home in Gallatin, Mo., with Rev. Hill Aesenlhnan officiating.

Burial was in Brown cemetery in Gallatin.

Bearers were Jasper Worley, Furman Troxel, Emil Dutro, Raymond Medsker, Robert Johnson and Herbert Cole.

Lewis, Walter C -

Walter C. Lewis, 75, longtime Antelope Valley resident of Lancaster, Calif., was fatally stricken in his Redding home May 13th, where he and Mrs Lewis moved in 1968 to be near their son, William Don Lewis and his family. Funeral services were held in Redding.

The couple made numerous friends in the valley and Mrs Lewis will be remembered for her daily radio program, "Weaving Dreams" over radio station KAVL for the 10 years prior to her retirement, 1950-1960. Both are remembered in the valley for their enduring interest in their fellowmen and many community services.

Mr. Lewis and his family moved to the Antelope Valley in 1940, from Lenox, Iowa. He was employed by Hayward Lumber Company for several years before becoming

the bookkeeper for Kelly and Mover Trucking Company. When they moved from the valley in 1968 they resided at Redding, where Mrs. Lewis survives her spouse.

Survivors in addition to the  widow and son in Redding include a second son, Carlton Lewis of Monmouth, Ill, a sister, Mrs. Paul Davis of Lenox, and four grandsons.

Mr. Lewis formerly managed the Hawkeye Lumber Company in Lenox and left here in 1940.

Funeral services were conducted May 18th. Mr. and Mrs Paul Davis of Lenox and Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Lewis of Monmouth, Ill., flew to California to attend the funeral.

McCahan, Maurice J -

Maurice J. McCahan, former Lenox resident, died in Fort Worth, Texas, May 13, 1970 at the age of 68 years.

He was the son of John and Belle McIntyre McCahan. He was graduated from the Lenox high school in 1920 and had planned to attend the 50th anniversary

of his class which was held May 31st in Lenox.

Mr. McCahan had lived in Fort Worth for thirteen years and was a salesman for Texas Refinery Corporation.

Funeral services for Mr. McCahan were held May 15th at the First Methodist Church in Fort Worth of which he was an active member.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice, a son, Dr. Thomas A. McCahan of Fort Worth, a daughter, Mrs. Maurine V. Nichols of Cleveland, Tenn., a sister, Mrs. Marie Terry of Beaumont, Calif., and two grandchildren.

Miller, William Anthony -

William Anthony Miller, son of Mary Hatton Miller and J N B Miller was born Nov. 6, 1885 and passed away at St. Vincent's Home in Omaha, July 8, 1970, at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 3 days.

Mr. Miller had lived in the Corning and Lenox vicinity most of his life, and had spent the past fifteen years in Nebraska.

He was married Jan. 26, 1910 to Gertrude O'Connell, who preceded him in death in 1925, leaving five small children, whom he was both father and mother to. One daughter, Rita, passed away in 1939.

He is survived by two sons, Bernard of Ft. Calhoun, Nebr., with whom he made his home, Vince of Omaha, Nebr., Mrs Glen (Helen) Hayes of Creston and Mrs. June (Agnes) Brokaw of Inglewood, California, 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Also three brothers, Harry Miller of Corning, George Miller of Cheyenne

Wells, Colorado, Francis Miller of Creston, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. George Holbrook of Coming, Iowa.

A brother, V. E. (Bud), and a sister, Mayme, preceded him in death.

He was associated with his father in the raising of Hereford cattle for many years.

He was a kind and loving father and a devoted grandfather and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Father Connolly July 11, 1970 at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Corning.

Bearers were grandsons, Ron Brokaw, Michael Miller, Timothy Miller, James Miller, David Miller and Mark Hayes.

Burial was in Calvary cemetery.

Servers were James Hayes, a grandson and Tim Mayta, a nephew.

Swartz, Ethel Hill -

Mrs. Ethel Swartz of Lenox passed away Sunday, August 9th at the Rosary Hospital in Corning at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 3 days.

She was one of ten children. Mrs. Swartz was the daughter of Lucy and John (Jack) Hill, and was born May 6, 1893 in Taylor County where she spent

most of her life. She became a member of the Methodist Church in Lenox in 1925.

She was married to Claude Ray Swartz, January 18, 1916 at Corning, To this union two children were born.

She is survived by her husband, Claude of Lenox, two children, Lloyd Swartz of Murray and Claudine Boyer of Gravity, a daughter-in-law Thelma, a. son-in-law Willard,

four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m., from the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox, with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating.

Bearers were Ray Boyer, Walter  Hill, Harold Hill, Larry Swartz, Martin Miller and Owen Schafroth.

Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Walter, Harry Dilman -

Harry Walter, 67, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon, August 5th, while at his work at the Sheridan Egg Company in .Lenox.

Harry Dilman Walter was born May 13, 1903 and died Aug. 5, 1970 at the age of 67 years.

He was the son of Jacob J. Walter and Minnie Brokaw Walter. He was born near Lenox, Taylor County, Iowa, and has lived in this community all of his life.

On June 14, 1928, he was married to Nell Griswold of Macksburg, Iowa. He was a well known farmer in Lenox and surrounding communities for nearly 40 years. He was employed at the Sheridan Egg Company in Lenox at the time of his death.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and of Tremont Lodge No. 343, A. F. and A. M. of Lenox. He was a Past Master of his Masonic Lodge and a Past Patron of Salome Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

He is survived by his wife, Nell, a son Jacob of Southboro, Mass., two daughters, Barbara, Mrs. [?]rl Kanzok of Des Moines, and Patricia, Mrs. Dale Stanley, of Lincoln, Nebraska and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Roland Walter of Lenox, and three sisters, Marie, Mrs Ralph McGee of Osceola, Mrs. Dorothy Layland of Audubon and Marjorle, Mrs. G. M. Fleming of Cedar Falls.

The community was shocked and saddened by his sudden death, and he will be greatly missed by his many relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Briley, pastor of the Lenox Christian Church, officiating.

Music was furnished by Ruth Boltinghouse.

Bearers were Dale Walter, Wray Walter, Orval Walter, Lonzo Walter, Julian Walter and Glendon Walter.

Burial was in North Fairview cemetery in Lenox.
