Barber, Maude –

Mrs. Maude Barber, aged 80, died Saturday in a nursing home at St. Joseph, Missouri.  She had spent most of her life at Athelstan.  Funeral services were held at Athelstan Tuesday, afternoon.

Barrows, Bert –

Bert Barrows, age 70, died on Wednesday of last week at his home in Gravity, where he had been a resident for many years.  His health had been failing for some time.  He was a harness maker by trade.

Bennison, Bert –

Lenox relatives have received word of the death of Bert Bennison, 83, of Chicago, Illinois.  He is an uncle of Miss Berta Bennison and of William Bennison and was a former resident of the Lenox community.

Bucker, William A. –

William A. Buckner, son of Thomas and Margaret Buckner was born in Louisa county, Iowa, July 21, 1862, and died in the Clarinda hospital, March 14, 1946.  When a young man he came with his parents to Taylor county.

On March 17, 1886, he was united in marriage with Dalruthla Van Houten, who preceded him in death in 1914.  Four children were born to this union, O.M. of Gravity, M. H. of Glenwood, A. W. deceased , and Mrs. C. Ver Steen of Gardena, Calif. 

July 8, 1930, he was married to Mrs. Eunice McBrien, and has since resided in Bedford.  Besides his widow he leaves three children, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  His step children and their families to all of whom he was “Granddad.”  He was a kind and affectionate husband and father, a conscientious workman, and a good neighbor.

Clayton, Emma Dell –

Emma Dell Clayton was born at Cameron, Illinois, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Dell on April 15th, 1866 and passed away at the home of her daughter, Elsie Holben in Lenox, Iowa on February 21st, 1946 at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 6 days, having made her home in Iowa for the past 60 years.

Early in life she united with the Methodist church and maintained her membership in it for life.  On February 14, 1882 she was united in marriage to Berryman H. Clayton.  To this union four children were born:  Harry, Roy, George and Elsie all of Lenox, Iowa.  The oldest son, Harry, preceded her in death.  There are eight grandchildren: Mrs. Delma Hosford, Compton, California, Wilbur Clayton, Tujunga, California, Mrs. Dorothy Immel, Des Moines, Iowa, Carroll Clayton, Drake University, Robert Clayton, Vancouver, Washington, Gene Holben, Lenox, Lois Clayton of Lenox and Harold Clayton of Creston.

Also there are five great grandchildren: Cynthia Clayton, Vancouver, Washington, Margaret Hosford, Compton, California, D. Richard Clayton and Barbara Ann Clayton, Tujunga, California and Norman McKay of Des Moines, Iowa, son of Mrs. Dorothy Immel.

Funeral services were held at the Arnold Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27th, 1946, John Alexander, local Methodist Pastor in charge.  Mrs. A. H. Peacock presided at the piano rendering appropriate Hymn numbers.  Lovely floral tributes were in evidence.  Commitment was made in the Fair View Cemetery.  Leo Hale, J. A. Porter, Joe Wood, Lawrence Taylor, Dick Hufnagel and Herman Beemer served as bearers.

Cook, Adley

Adley Cook, 88, oldest settler in the Kent vicinity, who had lived on the same farm for 87 years, died Saturday morning at 8:30 following an illness of several years.

Mr. Cook came to the farm where he died, with his parents in 1858.  He was a retired farmer and a Methodist.  The deceased was born May 8, 1857, in Ohio, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cook.  He was married April 2, 1885 to Josephine Munyon in St. Joseph, Mo.

Surviving are his widow; five children, Claude and Roy of Des Moines, Wayne and Mrs. Vera Westerbeck of Creston, and Gale of Kent.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Kent, at 2:00 Tuesday, with his son, Rev. Claude Cook officiating.  Burial will be in Morgan cemetery.

Cree, Beulah –

Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Cook have received word that his niece, Mrs. Beulah Cree, 45, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a former Lenox resident, passed away on March 14 [1946] as the result of a stroke.  Survivors are: her husband, Doyle Cree, and two daughter, Thelma and Theola.  Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Key of Lenox and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Key of Atlantic went to Colorado Springs to attend the funeral.

Davis – Nannie Gelvin

Clearfield Enterprize:  Word was received Friday of the death of Mrs. T. M. Davis at her home in Beaver City, Nebraska.  She was formerly Miss Nannie Gelvin, sister of Mrs. Jennie Young, only surviving member of the family.  She and her husband lived for several years in the Calvary neighborhood, but went to Beaver City, Nebraska sixty years ago where she had since made her home.  She is survived by her son, C. A. Davis, of Lincoln.

Eckler, Walter Sherman –

Walter Sherman Eckler, son of William Adelbert Eckler and Charlotte Wilcox Eckler, was born Oct. 24, 1872 in Jones county, Iowa and departed this life at his home in Lenox, Feb. 21, 1946 at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 27 days.


At the age of 3 he moved with his parents to Taylor county, Iowa and with the exception of two years spent west of Conway has lived in the vicinity of Lenox his entire life.  On December 15, 1896 he was united  in marriage to Mary Aram.  To this union were born five children:  Merrill Eckler of Albert Lea, Minn.; Ward Eckler of Lenox, Mrs. Edward I. Young of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Bertha Beckwith, Des Moines and Miss  Hazel Eckler, Inglewood, Calif.

Walter was a member of the Masonic Lodge and in September 1945, was presented with his 50 year membership certificate, an achievement which only a very few Masons attain.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roland M. Eckler of Lenox. 

He leaves to mourn his going, his wife, 2 sons and 3 daughters, a brother Charles William Eckler of Lenox; one sister, Mrs. Flora Donaldson, also of Lenox, 6 grandchildren: Louoise, Myrtle and Jimmie Young, Billie and Mary Ellen Eckler, and Barbara Beckwith, and a host of friends and fraternal brothers.

Funeral services were held at the Arnold Funeral Home Saturday Feb. 23, conducted by Rev. Chas. Hagee.  Interment was at Lenox cemetery with Masonic services at the grave.

Ethington, Gertrude L. Webb –

Services for Mrs. Gertrude I. Ethington, 89 years old were held at White Funeral Home at Des Moines on Friday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock on March 22nd [1946].  Mrs. Ethington died Wednesday March 20th at the Iowa Methodist hospital after a short illness.  She had been a resident of Des Moines for 23 years. 

Mrs. Ethington was born at McQuinn, Illinois and was a member of the Methodist church and Eastern Star.  Interment was made in the Masonic Cemetery.  She leaves besides her husband Charles E. Ethington, two sons: Sidney E. of Council Bluffs and Dick of Omaha, Nebraska, and four sisters, Mrs. Charles Rawson, Riverside, Oregon; Mrs. Nettie Kelley and Mrs. Beth Webb of Bedford and Mrs. Vera Higgins, Des Moines, and one brother, Sid P. Webb of Bedford.  Mrs. Ethington was a former resident of Lenox and leaves many friends here who are grieved at her death.

Hamill, Hattie

Mrs. L. H. Jackson, who makes her home with her daughter, Mrs. John Eberle in Lenox, has received notice of the death of her sister, Mrs. Hattie Hamill in Portland, Ore., on February 11 [1946] at the advanced age of 89 years.  This leaves Mrs. Jackson who is in her 92nd years, and I. A. Perjue of Centerville, Iowa who is 82 years old, the sole survivors of a family of fourteen children, all born and reared in Iowa and whose lives have figured continuously in the first 100 years of this state.  Their father, Andrew Jackson Perjue, came to Iowa in 1838 with a party of surveyors and assisted in surveying the land and the building of the capitol at Iowa City.  Later he was the first sheriff of Appanoose county serving from August 1846 to December 31, 1950.

Hofer, Frederick John –

Frederick John Hofer died at Wichita, Kansas February 1, 1946 at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 25 days.  Mr. and Mrs. Hofer were residents of this community for some thirty years, owning and operating the farm now owned by Frank Maharry on the outskirts of Lenox.  They later moved into town, later moving to Wichita.

Mr. Hofer was born at Buffalo, Iowa April 4, 1857.  On January 5, 1882 he was married to Elsbeth Bernard who passed away in 1943 and was buried at Alleman, Iowa, May 30.

To this union were born seven children, four of whom survive.  They are John B. Hofer of Dakota, Herman H. Hofer of Rock Island, Ill., Clair W. Hofer of Houston, Texas and Elesha Noble of Wichita, Kansas.  Lydia Hofer died Jan. 12, 1921, Minnie Hofer died in infancy and Ernest Hofer died Jan. 5, 1945.

Nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren survive.  Five brothers and one sister preceded him in death.  A sister, Minnie Stamm of Des Moines, Iowa is the only surviving member of his family.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 3 at the Evangelical church at Alleman, Iowa conducted by Rev. Frank E. Stuck with interment in Lincoln cemetery.

Huxtable, Flora Younger –

Mrs. Morris Huxtable passed away at her home in Lenox, Iowa March 11, 1946 having attained the age of 81 years, 7 months and 10 days.

Flora Younger was born in Washington, Tazewell county, Illinois, July 31, 1864, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Edwards Younger.  While a young girl her family moved to the Benson community.  She attended home schools and took her college work at Eureka, Illinois.  She then taught school near Benson for four years.

March 1, 1887 she was united in marriage with Morris Huxtable of Benson.  They began farming on the Hustable homestead immediately.  To this union were born three daughters, Eleanor, Osla, Lenora and Maria Helen.  Only one of the daughters is still living, Lenora passed away in 1940, while Maria died in 1905 at the age of five.

Mr. and Mrs. Morris Huxtable moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri in 1907.  She had always professed Christianity and joined the Lee’s Summit Baptist church.  A year later they moved to Kansas City; in 1913 they purchased a farm near Raymore, Missouri, and made this their home until March 1944 at which time her health failed.  To be with her daughter, Mrs. Warren Eckels,  they moved to Lenox, Iowa.

Mrs. Hustable was a woman of sterling qualities.  Her thoughts were always of the welfare of others and she was ever willing to help her neighbors and friends.  To know her was to love her.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Warren Eckels of Lenox, Iowa, four grandchildren, Mrs. Clarence Allen of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Lew Eckels of Lenox, Iowa, Charles Campbell of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Angelo Saccaro of Des Moines, Iowa and eight great grandchildren.  A grandson, Donald D. Eckels was killed in action in France, June 6, 1944.  Four brothers and two sisters preceed her in deth.

A service was held in Lenox Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Arnold Funeral home.  Rev. Earl Moneymaker officiating.  A mixed quartette consisting of William Bennison, Lela Long, Vera Roll, Paul Davis, accompanied by Don Tyler, sang “Face to Face” “The Lord Is My Shepherd” and “The Eastern Gate.” 

Those attending from Kansas City and Raymore, Missouri, the former home of the deceased were Mrs. James Huxtable, Winifred Kintigh, Mrs. Melvin Huxtable and daughter Mary, Mrs. Fred Laurence, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Watkins, Mr. and Mrs. W. Ralph Chaffin, Mrs. L. A. Horridge of Raymore, Missouri.

The body was taken to Minonk, Illinois where the last rites were held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Tallyn Memorial Home.  Rev. Lester D. Huxtable, a nephew officiating.  A mixed quartet sang “Face to Face,” “The City Four Square”, “In the Sweet Bye and Bye”.  Those of the immediate family attending were Morris Huxtable, husband of the deceased; Mr. and Mrs. Warren Eckels of Lenox, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Allen, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Campbell and  son Alan, Kansas City, Missouri.  Relatives from a distance: Mrs. Ida Brubaker, Peoria, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Delos Huxtable, Orville Huxtable, Mrs. Reta Campbell and daughter, Margarette from Champaign, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Huxtable and son Gerald of Hooperston, Mrs. Alma Roth and daughter, Rachel of Pontiac, Mrs. Lillie Lehman of Flanagan, Mrs. Richard Dunn of Normal, Rev. and Mrs. Lester D. Huxtable, Buffalo, New York, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Mann, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Peterson and son Delmar, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Peterson of Benson.

The many floral offerings reflected the high esteem in which Mrs. Huxtable was held by her many friends and relatives.  The burial was in Benson cemetery.

Loring, Lela Agler

Word has been received by relatives of the death of Mrs. Ben Loring, who died at her home at Bellingham, Washington, on March 8th [1946] at the age of 54 years.  Mrs. Loring, the former Lela Agler was a resident of Shannon City where he father was a blacksmith.  The Agler family left Shannon City in 1913.  Mrs. Loring was well known at Lenox and was related to the Butler family here.

McKenzie, Lorvina Catherine –

Mrs. Lovina Catherine McKenzie, widow of Alexander McKenzie, passed away at the family home, 437 E. Alvarado Street, Pomona, California, at 8:15 p.m. Sunday evening, March 17th ]1946] following a long illness. 

Mrs. McKenzie was born July 22, 1848 in Carroll county, Illinois.  She lived in Lenox until the family moved to Pomona 22 years ago.  She was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Howard L. McKenzie, Pomona, and six grandchildren, Hazel McKenzie, Mrs. Ruth Reynolds, Mrs. Kathryn Perrin all of Pomona; Mrs. Elizabeth Sturm, Whittier, Ward W. McKenzie, Los Angeles; Howard L. McKenzie, Sacramento; and a niece, Mrs. Lela Friets of Salina, Kansas.  There also are nine great-grandchildren. 

Private funeral services were held in the Todd Memorial Chapel on Tuesday afternoon.  Rev. Harry G. Earle, pastor of Trinity Methodist church officiated.  Interment was made in Pomona Cemetery by the side of her husband who passed away in 1925.

Meyer, Richard –

Richard Meyer was born in Germany, September 30, 1860, and died February 26, 1946, at the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 26 days.  He came to this country as a young man.  On June 11, 1893, he was married to Mrs. Mary Youning at Stanberry, Mo.  They then came to Lenox, which has since been their home.

To this union two sons were born: Fred Meyer of Excelsior Springs, Mo. and Frank, who died at the age of 7 years.  Surviving are his wife, son Fred, and step-daughter, Mrs. Ed Hostler of Grand Island, Nebraska.  Also six grand children and nine great grand children.

Funeral services were held at the Arnold Funeral Home at Lenox, Iowa on February 28, 1946 at 2:00 p.m. in charge of John L. Alexander, pastor of the local Methodist church.  Mrs. A. H. Peacock presided at the piano, Mrs. Edna Madden and Mrs. Ada Butler sang,

“Nearer My God To Thee” and “Rock of Ages.”  Pall bearers were Roy Clayton, George Clayton, Herman Beemer, John Slattery, Earl Hudson and Les Johnson.  Interment was made in the Lenox Cemetery.

O’Riley, Will –

Will O’Riley died Friday of last week at his home at New Richland, Minnesota and the funeral was held Monday.  Those from here attending were Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Eckles, Morris Hustable, Ed Eckles, Mrs. Lillian Scott and Mrs. Dora Chute.  All except Mrs. Chute are brothers or sisters of Mrs. O’Riley.  Mr. O’Riley was at one time a Lenox resident, leaving here for New Richland about 25 years ago.

Pegg, William –

William Pegg, son of John and Sarah Pegg was born in England on May 7, 1856 and died on Feb. 1st, 1946 at Jones Nursing Home, Creston, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 24 days.  When a small boy he moved with his parents to this country and settled on a farm in Illinois.  At the age of 21 years he moved to the Lenox Community where he engaged in farming and carpentering.

On October 19, 1892, he was united in marriage to Agnes Donaldson who preceded him in death in 1937.  Mr. Pegg was the last living member of his family.  His father, mother, 4 brothers and three sisters having died before him.  During his long illness he has been cared for in his own home by Miss Carrie Thomas.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church, having united with it in September 1910.  Funeral services were held at the Barber Funeral home in Lenox on Monday afternoon, Feb. 4th at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Earl Moneymaker in charge.  Interment was in the Lenox cemetery.

Richards, Frank –

Frank Richards died at his home here Tuesday at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 8 days.  He was a long time resident of this community.

Funeral services will be held Friday at the Barber funeral home at 2:00 o’clock p.m. in charge of Rev. Chas. Hagee.  Mr. Richards was born January 24, 1880 at Muscatine, Iowa.  In 1906 at Corning, Iowa he married Ella Zuber.

The six sons and daughters who survive are: Elvin Richards, Creston; Velma Patzer, Benton Harbor, Mich.; Clifford Richards, Dewitt, Ia.; Earl Richards, Lenox and Mary Peterson.  A brother John died in 1944.  Two sisters survive, Elysa Gold, Conway and Drucela Warner, Des Moines.  There are 11 grandchildren.

Richards, Frank –

God in His infinite wisdom has seen fit to call to his everlasting rest our beloved husband and father, Frank Richards on April 2, 1946.

Mr. Richards was born to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Richards of Creston who preceded him in death several years ago.  He has two sisters surviving, Drucela Warner of Des Moines, Iowa and Eliza Gold of Conway, Iowa,  one brother John, of Stuart, Iowa who preceded him in death in 1944.

He was married to Martha Ellen Zuber of Villisca, Iowa on January 24, 1906 and to this union was born six children, four sons and two daughters, Elvin of Creston, Earl of Lenox, Clifford of DeWitt and Anson of Davenport, Iowa.  Velma Patzer of Benton Harbor, Mich., Mary Peterson, Berrin Springs, Mich.  Most of his life was spent in Taylor county farming. 

Funeral services were held at the Barber Funeral home on Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Chas Hagee officiating.  His body was laid to rest in Graceland Cemetery at Creston..

Robinson, S. E. –

S. E. Robinson, eldest son of  Squire and Destemona Robinson was born May 5, 1863 near Conway, Iowa and departed this life on March 8, 1946 at the home of his son Blaine near Clearfield, Iowa, at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 3 days.

On November 17, 1886, he was united in marriage to Agnes Bannon who passed away in 1910.  To this union eight children were  born, six of whom survive their father, three sons, Blaine of Clearfield, Frank of Conway and Mark of Bedford, and three daughters, Dessa Carruthers of Lenox, Eva Smith and Grace Theum of San Antonio, Texas.  Two daughters, Leigh and Ruth passed away in infancy.  Besides his children he leaves to mourn his departure, 19 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and two brothers, Hugh M. and Melvin of El Reno, Oklahoma.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Gerald Walker from St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lenox, at 10:00 a.m. on March 11, 1946.  He was laid to rest beside his wife who had preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Joe Barrans, Frank Green, Frank Ewalt, Archie Calkins, Orlando Calkins and Ned Lydden.

Rogers, Clara May Lock –

Clara May Lock was born in Malta, Illinois April 22, 1864 and passed away on March 11, 1946 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ray Hayes of Lenox at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 11 days.  She was the eldest daughter of James Lock and Nancy Safford Lock.

In 1891 she was united in marriage to Samuel John Rogers who passed away March 27, 1928.  To this union were born 5 children, Rose Bolte of Council Bluffs,  Harry Rogers  and Mrs. Hayes of Lenox, Albert Rogers of Sharpsburg and one daughter who died in infancy.  Also surviving are three brothers, John Lock of Mason City, Robert Lock and Charles Lock of Rockford, Illinois, three sisters, Alice Switzer and Mary Wetz of DeKalb, Illinois, 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Six brothers preceded her in death.

She has been in failing health for several years but was a very patient sufferer, always looking on the bright and sunny side of life.  She was a member of the Presbyterian church for 55 years.

Schaub, Mrs. Frank –

Mrs. Frank Schaub passed away Tuesday March 12th [1946] at her home at Chicago, Illinois.  Funeral services were held on Friday, March 15th at 10 o’clock at St. Andrew’s Church with interment in St. Joseph’s cemetery.  She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, and 8 children, Lawrence, Elendale, North Dakota; Henry, Bernard, Celelia and Rose Marie, Chicago; Julius, Kewanee, Illinois; Marion, U.S. Navy and Isabel,  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Mrs. Schaub was a former Lenox resident and her friends will be grieved to learn of her death.

Shelley, Caroline “Carrie” –

Caroline Shelley, daughter of Richard T. and Harriet Shelley was born in Benton county, Iowa of May 25, 1866, and passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Jessie Bovaird in Lenox, Iowa on January 31, 1946, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 6 days.

She remained in the home of her parents, caring for them until their deaths, then moved to Colorado with her brother, Virgil, and remained with him for 19 years, until his death.  For the last nine years she has made her home with her sister in Lenox, Iowa.

She became a member of the Methodist church at an early age and was a loyal member as long as her health permitted.  She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a twin sister.

Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Jessie Bovaird of Lenox, Iowa and her brother, Frank Shelley of Marengo, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services and burial were held at Marengo, Iowa on Saturday afternoon.

Symonds, Lillian Geneva Jenkins –

Lillian Geneva Symonds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Jenkins was born August 11, 1908 near Lenox, Taylor county Iowa, and departed this life March 24 [1946] at 3 p.m. in the University hospital at Iowa City

Mrs. Symonds spent her entire life before her marriage in the neighborhood of her birth.  She was united in marriage with Raymond Symonds December 16, 1926 after which they made their home on a farm near Kent in Union County.  To this union was born three sons:  Donald 18, in the armed forces; Kenneth, 17 and Clifford, 14, both at home.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband and three sons, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. George Jenkins of Lenox; three sisters, and two brothers, Mrs. Edith Mees of Oak Park, Illinois, Mrs. Mary Vaughn of North Hollywood, California, Mrs. Jennie Brown of Oakland,  Myron Jenkins, Wilmington, California and George Jenkins in the armed forces, and many others, both relatives and friends.

Mrs. Symonds was a member of the Methodist church in Lenox.  She was active in church work in the communities in which she lived, being active in the Women’s Circles, Sunday School and other work in the Murray Church of Christ at the time of her passing.  She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and was beloved by all.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 27 [1946] 2 p.m. in the Church of Christ in Murray under the direction of Watts funeral home with J. Willard Herley of the Church of Christ officiating.  Burial was made in Lenox.

Warren, Belva Frances Warner –

Mrs. Belva Frances Warren, 28 years old, 904 North Main Street, died at 6 o’clock Sunday evening at the Martin Landfather hospital at Maryville, Mo., where she had been a patient a week.  A resident of Maryville most of her life, she was born there November 30, 1917, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Warner.  She was graduated from the Maryville high school and was a member of the First Baptist church.

On April 16, 1938, she was married at Kansas City to Denzel Warren, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Warren of Ravenwood, who was killed in action in November 1944 in France.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a son, Jerry Eldon, and a daughter, Karen Diane Warren, one sister, Mrs. Laura Spoo, River Forest, Ill., three brothers, Harold Warner, Chicago; Homer Warner, Maryville, and a grandmother, Mrs. Hulda Blachley, Berwyn, Ill.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the Campbell funeral home.  Rev. E. F. Hagee of St. Joseph officiating.  Burial in Miriam cemetery.

Donald Warner is a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. John Keith of Lenox.

Wynn, Laura Moffitt-

The passing of our old friend, Mrs. Laura Wynn, takes another of Prescott’s reliable and respected citizens.

Laura Moffitt, daughter of John and Margaret Moffitt was born April 8, 1862 at Mechansville, Cedar county, Iowa and departed this life January 4, 1946 aged 83 years, 8 months and 27 days.  In her earlier life, she lived in Adair County, afterward coming to Adams County where she lived more than sixty years, the last thirty in Prescott.

On August 29, 1879, she was united in marriage to Isiah Wynn who preceded her in death April 1, 1937, and also by one child Dev Vey, May 15, 1901.

Surviving are her children: Guy Wynn and Irve Wynn of Prescott, Ia., Mrs. Pearl Looney, Prescott, Iowa, Mrs. Harry Crouse of Clearfield, Iowa, Mrs. Glen Bohanan, Corning, Iowa, Russell Wynn of Twin Falls, Idaho, Ray Wynn, New Rockford, N.D., Mrs. Walter Crouch, Lenox, Iowa and Dale R. Wynn, Prescott, Iowa, 2 [?] grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, one brother, Charles Moffit, Prescott, Iowa, three sisters, Alta Proctor of Loveland, Colorado, Lola Benscooter, Falls City, Nebraska, Dolly Wainwright of Gilroy, California, and numerous relatives and friends.

She had been a member of the Methodist Church for many years and due to her advanced age, she has been confined to her home the last several years.  In her declining years, she received much enjoyment working with her flowers.  It was her request that her sons be pallbearers, as for their father.  She will be greatly missed because she had been a familiar figure in Prescott for many years.
