Alexander, Laura Rupe-
Laura Rupe Alexander, age 43, daughter of Mrs. Mabel Rupe of Lenox, passed away at the Platte Valley hospital in Torrington, Wyoming, Tuesday morning at 7 o’clock. She had been a patient at the hospital the past week.
Mrs. Alexander had been in poor health for some time. The body arrived today (Wednesday) accompanied by her husband, Charles Alexander, and funeral arrangements are in charge of the Barber Funeral Home to be held Thursday afternoon. Rev. C. W. Richardson will officiate at the services.
Mr. and Mrs. Alexander had been instructors in the Huntley, Wyoming schools the past two years. Her mother, Mrs. Rupe just recently returned from spending the winter with her son-in-law and daughter. The news of Mrs. Alexander’s death came as a great shock to the Lenox community.

Alexander, Laura Rupe –
Laura, daughter of Claud and Mabel Rupe, was born June 10, 1904, in Kansas City, Mo. She moved when 15 years of age to Holt, Mo., where she finished high school in 1922. She attended college at Warrensburg, Mo., and finished her B.S. in Education in 1928. She taught school at Weston, Mo. for three years. In 1930, she secured a position at Aurelia, Iowa, where she remained 12 years as high school mathematics teacher. In 1942, she transferred to Sac City, Iowa, and taught three yeas in the high school there.
Laura was converted at the age of 12 and joined the Christian Church. In 1942, she moved her membership to Sac City, Ia. January 1, 1944, she was married to Charles E. Alexander, then a petty officer in the Navy. They spent part of two years in East Orange, New Jersey. He was released from the service in September, 1945. They secured positions at Lamoni, Iowa, and in Sept. 1946 moved to Huntley, Wyoming, and have been teaching there the last two years.
Laura had been ill with heart trouble the past four years, gradually growing worse and passed away at the hospital in Torrington, Wyoming, April 27, 1948.
She is survived by her husband, her mother, Mrs. Mabel Rupe, her brother, Carl, many other relatives and a host of friends. Brief services were held in Torrington for the benefit of her friends and pupils there.
The funeral was held in Lenox, Iowa, from the Barber Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 29, with the Rev. C. W. Richardson in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Norma Paymal and Mrs. Marcia Bender, accompanied by Mrs. Grace Peacock. Services at the grave were in charge of the Order of the Eastern Star. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Beck, Joseph Wilson –
Joseph Beck, age 63, died very suddenly Thursday at 2:30 a.m. following a heart attack. He passed away at his farm house five miles west of Lenox. Mr. Beck had been a resident of the Lenox vicinity for the past ten years.
Joseph Wilson Beck, son of Luther T. and Inetta Johnson Beck, was born November 30, 1884 at Freeport, Illinois and departed this life, April 1, 1948, at the age of 63 years, 4 months and 1 day.
On December 23, 1908, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Myers at Sabetha, Kansas. To this union two children were born, Clarence W. of Denver, Colorado and Alberta Marie McGinnis of Valley Falls, Kansas.
He is survived by his wife and two children along with three grandchildren, Lucretia and Verne Beck of Denver, and Vera Lee McGinnis of Valley Falls, Kansas. Mr. Beck was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Arnold Funeral Home. Interment at Sabetha, Kansas.
Joe, as he was known by all who knew him will be greatly missed by friends and neighbors and relatives, for he was a kind and loving father, husband, friend and neighbor, and the sympathy of the entire community goes with the wife and children who will miss him most.

Beck, Phillip G.–
Phillip Beck, age 88, retired farmer, died at his home two miles southwest of Lenox Friday morning. He had been in poor health for some time, and suffered a stroke on the Wednesday preceding his death. Mr. Beck had lived in the Lenox vicinity for 71 years and was a highly respected citizen.
Phillip G. Beck, son of John George and Marie Kathera Beck, was born at Wurttemberg, Germany on March 19, 1860, and passed away on April 9th, 1948, at his home south of Lenox at the age of 88
years and 20 days.
When he was 14, he was confirmed in the Lutheran church. At the age of 17, he came to this country and spent his entire life in the community of Lenox.
In 1884, he returned to Germany, where he was united in marriage to Rosanna Kathern Haas. In March, he and his wife came to this county and lived on a farm west of Lenox. To them three children were born, George and Charles, and one daughter, who passed away in infancy. His wife passed away in 1888.
In 1889 he was united in marriage to Ursula Barbara Sagar. To this union three sons and three daughters were born.
He is survived by his wife, seven children, Charles and Albert of Sharpsburg, Johnny and Herman of Reinbeck; Emma of St. Joseph and Mary Morris and Rose of Lenox. Also 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one son, George. Mr. and Mrs. Beck had the pleasure of living together 59 years. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary nine years ago.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 11, at the Arnold Funeral home, Rev. Earl Moneymaker officiating. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery. Ten grandsons of the deceased served as pallbearers: Harold, Roy, Donald, Melvin, Duane, Vernon, Kenneth and Billy Beck, and Howard and Leonard Morris.

Blakesley, Carrie –
Mrs. Carrie Blakesley, 57, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lola Cheers, at Afton on Thursday. She had been ill for the past 16 months.
Mrs. Blakesley was a resident of Diagonal and funeral services were held there at the Presbyterian church on Sunday, in charge of the Rev. Edna Whitson, pastor of the Shannon City and Arispe Methodist churches.
Surviving are her husband, A. J. Blakesley, three daughters, Mrs. Lois Bradley of Lenox, Mrs. Zella Mae Hamilton of Prescott and Mrs. Lola Cheers of Afton.

Boltinghouse, Orval L. –
Orval L. Boltinghouse, son of L.C. and Sarah Freeman Boltinghouse was born in Grove township, Taylor county, Iowa, September 20, 1885, and departed this life March 2, 1948 at the age of 62 years, 5 months and 28 days.
He grew to manhood and lived most of his life on a farm near the place of his birth, except for the nine years he lived in Lenox and was associated with the late J. H. Barber in the hardware business.
While quite young he united with the Christian church at Blue Grove.
On April 14, 1909, he was united in marriage with Clara Mae Whipple. To this union one son, Cleo was born. Cleo’s mother passed away May 27, 1915, Mr. Boltinghouse was united in marriage to Delia Madden and to this union one son, Roland was born.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Delia and two sons, Cleo of Sewal and Roland of Lenox, three grandchildren, Mae, Dianne and Connie, his aged father, L.C. Boltinghouse of Clarinda, his four brothers, Joe of Elliston, Lonnie of Gravity, Walter of Clearfield and Floyd of Lenox. Two brothers, James B. and Charles preceded him in death. Also four sisters survive, Berttha Carter of Sharpsburg, Mae Murray of Edgeley, N.D., Eva Armstrong of Lenox and Ethel Bryant of Clarinda, and several nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by these, his loved ones, and his countless friends. The pall bearers were Clyde Milliken, Harvey Dennis, Melvin Williams, John Walter, George Firkins, Chas. Beck.

Butler, Nellie Roberts –
Nellie Roberts, youngest daughter of Josephus and Adaline Roberts, was born near Kent, Iowa, on December 22nd, 1873. She passed away at her home in Creston, Iowa, on May 22nd, 1948 at the age of 74 years and five months. She had been in failing health for over a year.
She was united in marriage to Walter Butler, Oct. 3rd, 1894. To this union three children were born: Bernice, Helen and Edwin. Bernice Bush preceded her in death February 16, 1925. Five sisters: Adeline, Elizabeth, Amanda, Jennie and Flora, and four brothers, Britton, William, Joseph and Charlie, preceded her in death.
She united with Grove Chapel Church at an early age, later transferring her membership to Prairie Star, Lenox and Creston where she held her membership.
Survivors are her husband, Walter F. of Creston, a daughter, Mrs. Claude Morris and husband Claude, a son, Edwin Butler and wife Hazel, of near Lenox, Five grandchildren, Kenneth Morris, Marjorie Reynolds, Hal Dean Morris, Robert Morris and Jack Butler, all of Lenox. Four great grandchildren, Louis Mark Morris, Constance Sue and Katherine Lou Reynolds and Susan Marie Morris and a host of other relatives and friends.

Clayton, George R.–
George Clayton, 62, died from a heart attack on Tuesday at 5:30 a.m., at his home in Lenox. He had not been well for some time and had been serious since Friday morning.
He was born at Kent, Iowa, and moved to Lenox when eight years of age. He was village mail carrier here for 28 years.
Surviving are his widow, Delia; two sons, Harold of Creston and Robert of Houston, Texas; one granddaughter, Cynthia Clayton; one brother, Roy and one sister, Mrs. Elsie Holben, both of Lenox; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Barber Funeral Home on Thursday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Earl Moneymaker officiating. Burial at Fairview cemetery.

Clayton, George R. –
George R. Clayton, second son of Berry and Emma Clayton passed away Tuesday morning May 25th, of a heart ailment at the age of 62 years, 7 months and 25 days.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother, Harry. He had been a member of the Presbyterian church since early youth. George entered the Postal Services in 1911, and retired several years ago after 28 years of service. His retirement came as a result of ill health.
Survivors are his wife, Della, two sons, Harold and his wife of Creston and Robert and his wife and daughter Cynthia of Houston, Texas, one sister, Elsie Holben, one brother, Roy. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held on Thursday May 27th from the Barber Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Moneymaker officiating. Interment was in Lenox cemetery.

Cook, Chancey Gaylord –
Chancey Gaylord Cook, son of George D. and Anna Cook, was born in Livingston county, Illinois on August 1, 1874, and passed away at his home in Lenox, Iowa, March 29, 1948, at the age of 63 years, 7 months and 28 days.
At the age of four years, he came with his parents from Illinois to Taylor County, Iowa, where he lived most of his life. When quite young he united with the Christian Church at Blue Grove.
He grew to manhood and lived most of his life on a farm near Lenox, except for 12 years when he was in the plumbing and heating business in this community.
November 27, 1901 he was united in marriage with Mabel Gordon. To this union two daughters were born, one died in infancy, the other, Bernice, resides in California. Bernice’s mother passed away February 27, 1913. On October 14, 1914, Mr. Cook was again united in marriage, this time to Mary A. Trost. To this union one son and two daughters were born.
He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Mary, a son, George of Lenox. And three daughters, Betty O’Riley of Lenox, Helen Springer of Ottumwa, and Bernice Austin of California; also six grandsons, Jimmie, Stephen, Richard, Carl, James, and Billy, two sisters, Goldie Key of Sharpsburg and Harriet Sturm of Montana, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Mr. Cook’s passing will leave a vacancy among his loved ones and countless friends, which will never be forgotten.
Funeral services were held from the United Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon, March 31st, at 2 o’clock in charge of the Rev. Earl Moneymaker. Interment in the Lenox cemetery.
Pallbearers at the funeral services were Ben Walter, Wes Crouch, Glen Vogel, Hans Lebbert, Elmer Orr and John Drain. Rolland Buxton sang at the service.

Cook, Chancey Gaylord –
C. G. Cook, 73, retired farmer, died on Monday at 5 p.m. at his home in Lenox. He had been in poor health the past year. Surviving are his widow, Mary, one son George of Lenox; three daughters, Mrs. Betty O’Riley, of Lenox; Mrs. Helen Springer, of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Bernice Austin, of California; two sisters, Mrs. John Kay, Sharpsburg, and Mrs. Harriet Sturm, Belt, Montana. Two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Lenox United Presbyterian church on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Earl Moneymaker officiating. Burial in the Lenox cemetery.

Dahlberg, William –
As we were going to press this week, we received word of the death of William Dahlberg, 92, of Kent. Mr. Dahlberg had suffered a stroke Saturday and was in serious condition until his death, which occurred at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time, although the body will be taken to the Arnold Funeral Home. An obituary will appear in next week’s paper.
Surviving Mr. Dahlberg are the following children: Floyd of Lenox, Mrs. Harvey Wright, Mrs. Lee Peak and Mrs. Will Clem of Kent; and Mrs. Ruth Brown of Omaha. Two sons, Ernest and Vertle preceded him in death.

Eberle, John –
John Eberle was born in Lenox, Iowa, on Sept. 7, 1876, the son of Katherine and John Schmouder. When he was three years old his mother died and her brother, John Eberle, and his wife Catherine, adopted the little boy and raised him to manhood. He was educated in the Public Schools of Lenox and was first employed by the C.B.&Q. Railroad Company, which sent him to Bridgewater, Iowa. Here he met Miss Martha Megath and they were united in marriage at Greenfield, Iowa, on Dec. 5, 1899. With her he lived happily until her death in February 1932. Soon after his marriage he severed his connection with the railroad company, purchased and operated a meat market in Bridgewater until 1917 when he disposed of his market there and moved to Lenox where he established Eberle’s Market, which he operated until June 1, 1946.
On June 3, 1934, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Emma E. Barton at Mt. Ayr, Iowa. Mr. Eberle has always been active in public and community affairs. He served for six years on the city council during which time the Municipal Light Plant was erected. In 1938 he was made one of a board of three Trustees for the Light plant and in 1946 was appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Municipal Water Works.
Illness during the past year forced him to retire from active part in community affairs and resulted in his death on March 30, 1948, at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 23 days.
He is survived by his widow, her mother, Mrs. Jackson, one stepson, Richard Barton, his wife, Virginia, and daughter, Eleanor, of Des Moines, and an aunt, Mrs. Eva Wurster, of Creston, other relatives and his many friends.
In John Eberle’s passing, each of us has lost a friend, and this community has lost a stable citizen.
The funeral was held at the Arnold Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1. Music was furnished by Lowell Shum, accompanied by Mrs. Eugene Paymal. The service was in charge of Rev. C. W. Richardson.

Ely, Merton Ernest –
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 23, at 9:30 a.m. from St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Spokane, Washington, for Merton Ernest Ely, a resident of that city for 41 years. The Very Rev. S. P. Buckley officiated at the services.
Mr. Ely was a barber in Lenox before moving to Washington. His wife is a cousin of Miss Lizzie Finn of this city. He is survived by his wife, Minnie, at home, one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Thompson of Spokane; one sister, Mrs. Francis Nelson of Kellogg, Idaho and one niece, Mrs. Floyd West of Orting, Washington.

Gehr, Joseph A. –
Joseph A. Gehr, age 81, died in a hospital at Fort Morgan, Colorado, Wednesday night March 31. He had been in failing health since he suffered a stroke last January 17. Mr. Gehr had resided in Colorado the past nine years, making his home with his sister, Mrs. A.M. Ely. He was a retired farmer and had been a Lenox resident for many years. He was born in Dadera, Illinois, June 5, 1866.
Besides his sister, Mrs. Ely, Mr. Gehr is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at St. Helena’s Catholic church in Fort Morgan, Friday April 2, and the body was then sent to Lenox, where graveside services were held Saturday afternoon. Interment to St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Gordon, Charles –
Charles Gordon of Los Angeles, California, passed away at his home on Tuesday morning, June 22. The body will be brought to Lenox the latter part of this week for graveside services and interment at Fairview cemetery. Mrs. Gordon is a brother of the late Ed Gordon, and left Lenox about 50 years ago.

Gordon, Charles –
Charles Gordon, son of John and Martha Gordon, was born July 9, 1864, at Durham, Marion County, Iowa, and departed this life in Los Angeles, California, on June 22, 1948 at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 12 days.
Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: John Gordon, Will Gordon, Nettie Gordon, Sadie Watkins, Jennie Moffit, Elizabeth Drain and Edward D. Gordon.
Surviving are five nephews and two nieces, namely: Clair Moffit, Detroit, Michigan; Gordon Hamilton, Kansas City, Missouri; Leigh Gordon, Marion, Iowa, J.E. Drain, Lenox, Iowa; Mrs. Carlin Henneberry, Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Alpha Rogers, Shannon City, Iowa.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Fairview cemetery.

Guss, Mary –
The John Spring family received word Sunday that John’s sister, Mrs. Mary Guss, had that morning died at her home in Kansas City, Mo. The Guss family lived at Guss some years ago. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago. She leaves two daughters, one son and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Guss Church, Tuesday, and interment was in the Guss cemetery.

Hockett, V. S. –
V.S. Hockett, age 81, passed away last Wednesday night, June 16th from a cerebral hemorrhage, which he had suffered the previous Monday. Mr. Hockett was a resident of Clarinda the past 4 years, but had previously resided in Corning and Cherokee.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Inez Hockett, and the following children: Max Hockett of Lenox, Wm. A. Hockett of Montclair, New Jersey; Mrs. Helen Holly of Clarinda; Mrs. W. C. McLin, of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Mrs. Robert Brown of Green Bay, Wisconsin; a sister, Mrs. Mary Wiley of San Bernadino, California, and a brother, C. A. Hockett of Lenox. Eight grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held from the Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda on Friday.

Locke, Ellen Slattery “Nellie” –
Mrs. Nellie Locke died Sunday morning as the result of a heart attack. She resided alone at her home in Lenox and was [?] later in the day by her brother, John Slattery. Mrs. Locke had been a Lenox resident for many years.
Mrs. Ellen Slattery Locke, the daughter of Bridget Cosgrove and Patrick Slattery, was born in [?} Ontario, Canada on April 11, 1865 and departed this life unexpectedly Sunday April 25 at the age of 83 years, and 14 days.
Mrs. Locke came to Iowa with her parents in 1877 and resided on a farm southwest of Lenox during her childhood. In 1889 she was united in marriage to Harry Locke in St. Patrick’s church in Lenox. For a number of years she and her husband were in business in Clarinda, Iowa, but in 1909 they moved to a farm near Lenox, Iowa where she resided until her husband’s death in 1933. Since then Mrs. Locke has lived in Lenox. Nephew John McGrath, now deceased and Mrs. [?] Tobin, also deceased and Mary Wubker, Torrence, California, were reared in Locke’s home after their mother’s death in Clarinda. To these children, she gave the loving care of a mother.
Surviving relatives include her brother, John Slattery of Lenox and several nieces and nephews.
Requiem High Mass was sung Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick’s church, Lenox, by the Reverend Father Gerald G. Walker. Burial was at St. Patrick’s cemetery in Lenox.

Miller, James Albert –
James Albert Miller, the son of George and Sarah Miller, was born on January 16, 1870, in Benton county, Iowa, and passed away at his home in Lenox, Iowa on May 18, 1948, at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 2 days.
On December 20, 1899, he was united in marriage to Lillie B. Scott. There were no children born to this union. He came to Adams county with his parents at the age of eleven and spent the remaining years of his long life in Adams and adjoining counties.
Mr. Miller united with the Potter Chapel Church when a young man. This affiliation was abandoned when he united with the Mercer Center church in 1930. He had held offices in both churches. He was also ready and willing to help anyone in need.
On March 1, 1945, he and his wife moved to Lenox, Iowa, from a farm located four miles northwest of Lenox. Jim was actively engaged in farming until his retirement at which time he had just passed his seventy-fifth birthday. Those who knew Jim will always remember him as a generous, kind and helpful friend and neighbor.
Mr. Miller had been in failing health for a number of years, but he failed rapidly the last three weeks. His death was quite sudden and unexpected and his passing has deeply grieved by those near and dear to him.
The deceased leaves to mourn his passing his devoted and beloved wife; four brothers, John and Fred of Corning, Jake of Brooks and Charles L. of Meridian, Idaho; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
His mother, father, three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 21, 1948 at 2:30 p.m. at the Roland Funeral Home in Corning by Rev. Chas. Hagee, of Stanberry, Missouri, assisted by Rev. C. W. Richardson of Lenox. The music was furnished by Mary Bunting and Esther Burkhalter accompanied by Dorothy Higgins. The pallbearers were: Glen Vogel, Dale Kimpton, Maurice Kemp, Clarence Bender, Bert Miller and George Miller.
Interment was made in the Lincoln Center Cemetery.

Orr, Alice May Dunn –
Alice May, daughter of Allen and Elizabeth Dunn was born March 14, 1862 at Spring Grove, Illinois and passed away at her home in Los Angeles, California May 24, 1948 at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 10 days. She was the oldest of three children. A sister, Eva McMorris and a brother, Harry E. Dunn, preceded her in death.
When a child she moved with her parents to Monmouth, Illinois where she resided until her college days.
On February 5th, 1884, she was united in marriage to Simeon B. Orr of Chicago, Illinois. To this union were born six daughters and one son: Mae Orr and Elmer Orr of Lenox, and Misses Alma, Florence and Myrtle Orr and Mrs. Bernice Clawson of Los Angeles, California. There are two grandchildren, Leila and Harold Orr of Los Angeles.
Their first home was established in Munden, Nebraska where they remained until the year 1900 when with their family they moved to Lenox, Iowa. Here she lived until the death of her husband in 1917. Since then she has made her home between Lenox, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
At an early age she professed her faith in Christ and the house of worship she chose and to which she remained true and loyal with was the United Presbyterian Church, the last being the First United Presbyterian church of Los Angeles, where she enjoyed the fellowship offered there under the pastorate of Dr. T. C. Strangeway who on last Wednesday at 2:30 o’clock conducted memorial services in Los Angeles.
On the following Saturday, May 29, at 2:30 o’clock services were held from the Arnold Funeral Home, the Rev. Earl Moneymaker being in charge, after which she was laid to rest in the Fairview cemetery in Lenox, Iowa.
Pallbearers were Cecil Maharry, Earl Hughes, John Porter, David Bennet, Roy Archibald and Carl Herbst.

Pouget, Henry C. –
From Tuesday’s Des Moines Register we take the following story about a former Lenox pastor.
Services for the Rev. Henry C. Pouget, 80, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Ambrose cathedral. Burial will be at Glendale cemetery.
Father Pouget, who lived at Bowling College 13 years, died Sunday in Mercy hospital after a four-month illness. He established All Saints mission church here after coming to Des Moines in 1914. After serving churches at Maloy and Lenox, Father Pouget returned here in 1935. Until four years ago he served as shepherd of the Spanish-speaking Catholics here

Putnam, Mrs. Walter –
Funeral services were held on Monday morning in Creston for Mrs. Walter Putnam, a sister-in-law of Mrs. Howard Eno. Attending the rites were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Eno, Mrs. Minnie Armstrong, Mrs. Eldon Jones, Mrs. Orval Reed, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Beadel, Mr. and Mrs. Will Reed and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Beck, all of Lenox, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Boltinghouse of Clearfield.

Rodman, Harry I. –
Harry I. Rodman, district superintendent of the Eclipse Lumber Company, passed away Friday at his home in Winterset. Mr. Rodman is well know to many Lenox folks as he and his wife have often been guests at Hotel Lenox.

Runyan, T. Glen –
T. Glen Runyan, age 60, passed away Saturday night at his home in Tacoma, Washington. He was a former resident of Lenox, having been born on a farm south of town, and graduated from the local high school. Since that time he had lived in the west, and at the time of his death he was head ticket agent for the Union Pacific railroad at Tacoma, Washington.
Mr. Runyan’s sister, Mrs. O. L. Copeland, left for Tacoma by United airlines, and arrived there Monday afternoon. She will attend the funeral services and interment which will be in Tacoma. After visiting with her late brother’s wife, Mrs. Copeland will continue to Long Beach, California, where she will be a guest of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Walter.

Rusco, Turner –
Turner Rusco passed away last Thursday morning at the Creston hospital.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at Athelstan and burial was made in the Athelstan cemetery.
Mr. Rusco was the father of Royal Rusco, local manager of the Western Light and Telephone company.

Scott, Alpha Harry –
Alpha Scott, son of Mrs. Mary Scott, died Saturday at his home in Houston, Missouri. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. C. Utterback of the Christian church Tuesday afternoon at the Arnold Funeral Home. Interment was in Lenox cemetery.
Alpha Harry Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. R. Scott, was born on February 26, 1905, southeast of Lenox and passed away at his home in Houston, Mo., on March 6, at the age of 43 years and 10 days. In early childhood he accepted Christ in the Christian Church.
On May 11, 1938, he united in marriage to Louise Walker of Casper, Wyo.
Alpha spent most of his early life in Taylor county and was always eager to serve his neighbors and friends. In 1940 he became ill with muscular paralysis, from which he never recovered.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his mother, Mrs. Mary Scott, four sisters, Mrs. Gladys Baxter of Clearfield, Iowa, Mrs. Hazel Wells of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Harold Ogle of Goodman, Mo., and Mrs. Leona Hardin of Lenox, five brothers, Herb at Creston, Bob of Blairsburg, Glen of Colorado Springs, Colo., Harry of Seattle, Wash., and Wayne of Glenwood, Ia.; also a host of other relatives. His father preceded him in death, Dec. 7, 1932.
Alpha was the first of ten children to depart this life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but God in His wisdom has called him home.

Stoner, Bessie Potts –
Bessie Potts Stoner died at her home in Hampton, Iowa, Friday, May 14th, 1948, after an illness of about three months. She was born on a farm near Lenox and lived there with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Potts, who passed away some time ago.
In 1913 she was married to Harry D. Stoner, and they moved to a farm of their own where the lived until moving to Hampton in 1936.
During her life in Lenox, Mrs. Stoner was a member of the Presbyterian Church there. In Hampton she attended the Congregation church.
The body was at the Green Funeral Home in Hampton until Sunday p.m. A short service was read by the Rev. Beggs of that city and Mrs. Beggs sang a favorite solo, and then Mrs. Stoner was taken to Lenox to the Arnold Funeral Home. The burial service was held Monday afternoon at 1:30 and the Rev. Moneymaker of the United Presbyterian Church conducted that service. Two songs which were favorites of Mrs. Stoner were sung by Mrs. Roy Long and Mrs. Vera Roll, “The Beautiful Garden of Prayer” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Kathleen Maharry played the organ music.
Mrs. Stoner leaves besides her husband, three brothers and one sister. The sister is Mrs. J. I. Summers of Chicago. The brothers are Wm. Potts of Grinnell, Iowa Robert of Creston and Ray of Stuart. Burial was in Lenox cemetery.
