Simeon R. Wright Dead

The subject of this sketch Simeon R. Wright was born in Licking county, Ohio, February 16, 1833, and died at Bedford, Iowa, May 4, 1907, from a complication of diseases and after a protracted illness.

On October 20, 1853, he was married to M. [artha] Ellen Lindsay, and to this union ten children were born, only two of whom survive him, a son, Frank and a daughter, Mrs. Mary E. [lizabeth] Roberts. His wife died July 21, 1899.

On May 30, 1900 he was again married to Emily Thrall and he and his wife moved in 1902 to Springfield, Mo. While living there on August 30, 1905, his wife died. Mr. Wright was in very poor health at the time and has never since enjoyed good health. About eleven months ago his son Frank brought him back to Bedford where he could spend the remainder of his days amid relatives and friends and receive their kind care and attention. He gradually grew worse until the final end arrived.

Mr. Wright was not a member of any church but his purse was always open for the advancement of any good and charitable purpose.

Of a family of ten children he was the first to cause a break in the circle, his nine brothers and sisters together with son and daughter remaining to mourn the loss of a fond father and a kind brother.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. B. Thompson at the home of his son, Frank, Monday morning, May 6, at 9 o'clock and the body was interred in the Conway cemetery. A large number of friends were in attendance at both services.

An Old Settler Gone

Simeon R. Wright was born in Licking County, Ohio, February 16, 1833, and died at the home of his son, Frank Wright, in Bedford, Saturday, May 4, 1907.  He was married to M. [artha] Ellen Lindsey, October 20, 1853.  To this union there were born ten children, two of whom only survive him.  They are Frank Wright and Mrs. Mary E. [lizabeth] Roberts, both of Bedford.  His wife, M.[artha] Ellen Wright, died July 21, 1899.  On the 30th of May 1900, he married Emily Thrall, and in 1902 moved to Springfield, Mo.  His second wife died August 30, 1905, Mr. Wright being himself in very poor health at the time.  Less than a year ago he accompanied his son, Frank, to Bedford, where he has been the recipient of the faithful, loving care of his children.  He gradually, yet steadily declined in spite of all that could be done.  Mr. Wright was not a member of any church but was always ready to contribute to any charitable cause.

He was one of the early pioneers, coming to Taylor County in 1857.  At that time this was really the frontier, there being less than 200 voters in the county.  Mr. Wright located on sections one and two in Clayton township, adding to his possessions gradually; at one time he owned over a thousand acres of land.  After leaving the farm he moved to Conway where he resided until five years ago when he moved south.

Out of a family of ten children, though not the eldest, he was the first to leave his parental home and the first to pass into the great beyond.  The brothers and sisters of the deceased are as follows:  John P., Bedford; William, Johnstown, O.; Mrs. Amanda White, California; Mrs. Nancy Willison, Johnstown, O.; Mrs. Jane [Elizabeth] Denser, Bedford; Milton, Johnstown, O.; Mrs. Ellen Werdon, Columbus, O.; and Mrs. Elnora Werdon, Columbus, O.  John P. and Mrs. Denser were the only two present at the funeral.

Mrs. Mary Roberts

Mary E. [lizabeth] Wright, eldest child of Simeon and [Martha] Ellen Wright, was born June 16, 1855, in Knoxville, Ill. When but a child of two years, she came with her parents where a farm was homesteaded about two and a half miles southeast of Conway. On this farm she learned something of the rigors of pioneer days and here she grew to young womanhood. She was the eldest of ten children, of which eight preceded her in death. On October 26, 1871, she was united in marriage to W. [illiam] M. [arlin] Roberts, and the young couple went to housekeeping on a farm adjoining the parental home. The greater part of her active life was lived in that vicinity. Five children blessed their home, two daughters dying in infancy. In the year 1901, Mr. and Mrs. Roberts moved to Bedford with their family, where Mr. Roberts died in the year 1913. Since then Mrs. Roberts has lived in her own home here. For a number of years she has suffered, from ill health and has been greatly inconvenienced in the fact that she could not get about easily. On May 28, while about her home duties she fell and sustained a fractured hip. For two weeks she suffered intensely, but was released from her suffering and passed into life eternal on the morning of June 11, 1931. For a long time she has seemed to look forward to the time when death would release her and has often talked of it to her relatives and friends She wanted to go and had made many plans. The songs and Scripture lesson for her funeral service were selected and so far as known her wishes have been carried out. She leaves one brother, Frank Wright of Bedford; two sons, Ira [Alva] Roberts of near Conway, and Herman [Porter] Roberts of Rapid City, So. Dak.; and an only daughter, Grace Roberts Salen of Bedford. She had ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren, who with other relatives and many friends are left to mourn her going. Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Methodist church, having made her decision for Christ and joined the church when she was twenty years of age Since that time she has consistently lived the Christian life and not a small part of the fruitage of that life has been the making and keeping of a host of friends—friends who enjoyed frequent visits to her home. When these friends knew of her injury many of them came to see her until she was no longer able to see them. These friends and acquaintances will hold her name in loving memory through the years.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, June 14, at the Wetmore Funeral Home, conducted by Rev M. R. Talley, pastor of the Methodist Church, and the body laid to rest beside that of her husband in the Conway Cemetery.

Logan Roy Adams

Logan Roy Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Adams [Lena Greenlee], was born in Booker, Texas on April 28th, 1921, and departed this life from his home in Bedford, Iowa on June 11, 1931, at the age of 10 years, 1 month and 14 days. The death of Logan Adams will bring to his heart broken parents, brothers and sisters the sympathy and appreciation of their many friends in this community. He was taken ill with appendicitis and every effort was put forth to restore him to health and strength, but it was God's will to remove him from our midst. The little lad leaves to mourn his departure, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Adams, two brothers, Harrison and Isaac, and one sister, Sylvia. One brother, Charley David, preceded him in death. In addition to these members of the family mentioned, he leaves an aged grandmother, together with many other dear ones, relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Clark M. Crowell. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery.
