Clearfield Man Kills Self Friday

Fred F. Carlton, 54, of Clearfield, ended his life by drowning in the Platte River seven miles north of Clearfield Friday.

Carlton had left his home about 7 o'clock Friday morning without stating where he was going.  His body was found at 4:30 that afternoon by his brother, C. [ecil] C. [laire] Carlton, federal loan agent, who is well known over the county.

Carlton evidently went to the river immediately after leaving his home.  A watch in his pocket stopped at 8:20 o'clock.  He had driven his car to the bank of the river, laid his coat and hat on the bank, and walked into a pool three feet deep.

Location of the body was made immediately after the car was found.  Ill health and despondency was given as the reason for the act.  He had been in business at Clearfield in the past.

Funeral services were held Sunday in the Methodist church at Clearfield.  Burial was made at Lenox.
