[BAITY, GEORGE FLEMING]
Blockton News (Blockton, Iowa), Thursday, December 20, 1917
George Baity passed away at his home about two miles northwest of Athelstan Friday. As we understand it, Frank Cavin went to the Baity home to saw wood on that day and arrived there about 10 o'clock and finding no one about, commenced an investigation. He found the door locked and looking through the window discovered the house was full of smoke. Forcing the door, he found Mr. Beaty [Baity] dead, having been suffocated by the gas from a stove and his sister, Mary Baity, who made her home with him, in a critical condition.

FRANK MCALL, 68 KILLED IN WRECK

Frank McCall, 68, of Bedford, died as a result of injuries received when his car missed the highway just north of Hopkins, Mo., in a fog Tuesday evening about 8 o'clock. The accident happened just north of Hopkins, where he has operated a pool hall for the past several months.

It appears that his car veered to the right side of the pavement as it approached the small bridge just north of town, and hit a cement abutment. There is some speculation to the effect McCall may have died of a heart attack, as he started back to his home in this city.

Funeral services will be held at the Shum Funeral Home at two o'clock, Friday afternoon, January 16. Rev. Anthony Blankers will officiate. Burial in Athelstan cemetery.
