Kitchen, Dr W.A. Kitchen son of Isaac and Hannah Kitchen was born in Selma, Ohio, Nov 29, 1863, and died at New Market Sep 23, 1930. He graduated from a medical College at Cleveland, Ohio and did an internship for 2 years at Huron Street Hosp. He was married to Clara P. Johns Dec 14, 1892 and on 17 Dec of that year they came to reside in New Market. He is survived by his wife and 1 brother, Will, of Springfield, Ohio, and 5 sisters, Mrs George B. Rex of Des Moines, Mrs Ida Weir and Mrs Luella J. Hunt of Springfield, Ohio, Mrs Isaac Thorn, a twin sister of the doctor of Selma, Ohio, and Mrs Homer McMillan of Atlanta, Georgia.
 
Kitchen, Clara Kitchen died at home in New Market Aug 22, (1940). Having no relatives in the country, little is known concerning her early life or the date of her birth. Born in Cleveland, Ohio over 80 years ago, she married Dr Warren Kitchen and lived in New Market nearly 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband and an adopted son, Harold, who died in 1917 at 14 years of age.

Mrs. Sam King Dies
"Mrs. Sam King, 77, died Wednesday, August 18, at her home in Hopkins, after
a two-weeks illness following a cerebral hemorrhage.

Mrs. King was born on the family farm southwest of Bedford, the daughter of
Mr. And Mrs. Aaron Cox.  She lived there until her marriage, after which
Hopkins and vicinity , has been her home.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, August 20, at the local Methodist
Church by Rev. J. Vernon Wheeler.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, Roy King of Blockton and Clarence
King of Jackson Center, Ohio, one sister, Miss Sadie Cox of California, and
four grandchildren.

Burial was in the Hopkins Cemetery."

[104] Karas, Robert

Funeral services for Robert Karas, age 85, of Bedford, who
died Thursday, February 9, 2006, at the Clearview Home in
Clearfield, after a 33 year battle with Parkinson's, were held
Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastors Rick
Titus and Ryan Leininger officiating at the Ritchie Funeral
Home in Lenox.   Lunch followed the services at the Lenox
American Legion Hall. Interment was held at the Massena
Center Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.  Memorials can be directed to

Robert Richard Karas was born August 1, 1920, in Massena,
Iowa.  He was one of eight children born to Otto Karas and
Edna (Harris) Karas.  On October 12, 1946, he was united in
marriage to Betty Lou Titus.  To this loving union one son,
Larry Robert was born.  Last October, Robert and Betty
celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary.

Robert and Betty lived and farmed in the Massena and
Bedford, Iowa areas.  Robert enjoyed farming, fishing and
mountain vacations.  During his lifetime, he made many
friends and helped many others.  He was known to leave his
own work to go and help others.  Robert had a wonderful
sense of humor and was always more than willing to pull a
prank on anyone he thought needed it!  He was a very kind,
loving and compassionate man who was a wonderful husband
and father.  Robert battled his Parkinson's Disease for 33
years with dignity and honor.  Betty lovingly cared for him in
their home for many years and when it was time to move him
into the nursing home, she daily saw to his needs there as
well.

Left to cherish Robert's memory are his loving wife Betty
Karas of Clearfield; his son Larry Karas and Nancy of
Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren, Shane Karas and Erin of
Indianola; Korbi and Bob Munoz of Indianola; Gentry and
Chad Burton of New Virginia; and Blake and Anyta Karas of 
Indianola; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces,
nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding Robert in death were his parents, Otto and Edna;
three brothers, Gilbert, Frank and Elwin; and four sisters,
Bessie, Mabel, Alice and Leona.

[105] Keller,  James Richard was born November 23, 1932, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Helen Campbell and Richard Keller. He passed away peacefully Sunday, April 24, 2005, at the Alamogordo, New Mexico hospital.
When he was a young child, the family moved to Taylor county, near Guss where Jim attended Fairview School, later moving to New Market where Jim finished grade school and graduated from New Market High School in 1950. After graduation, he went to Montana to work for the Bureau of Public Roads and National Forestry Service, where he continued his career for 32 years. He retired in 1985 on the Lincoln National in New Mexico. His career was filled with great ambition, pride, and many accomplishments. Jim met Anita Newton in Missoula, Montana and they were married September 28, 1963. They enjoyed a wonderful 42 years together. From this union, were born two daughters, Shelly and Kerri. They were greatly privileged to have been touched by him. Jim is missed and loved by many. He always enjoyed the big family reunions and was usually the life of the party. He was baptized as a child at the United Methodist Church at New Market, Iowa.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Vance McPike; two sisters, Eleanor Ruth Keller and Betty Clayton; and three brothers-in-law, Robert Leighton, Ross King, and Alvin Clayton. He is survived by his wife, Anita; daughters, Shelly Keller of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Kerri Curnow and husband Richard of Missouri; three grandchildren, Shannon, James (Bo), and Corey Booth. He is also survived by sisters, Arlene King, Jean Graham and husband Roy, Mary Combs and husband Lyle, Loleta Spring and husband Gary, Judy Sparks; two brothers, Jack and wife Mary Ann and Rich and wife Cindi and Anita's family in Montana. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Graveside memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday June 13, 2005, at Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa with Loren Daly officiating. The family invites his friends to attend the services and lunch and visitation at the Community Center, New Market, Iowa following the services. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
[106] Kelley, Mable Esther Peterson, was the eighth child born to Swedish immigrants, Melker and Mary Louisa Olander Peterson on February 23, 1911 in the Guss area. She departed from this life on April 1, 2005 at Oakland Manor where she had resided since February.
After the death of her father, the family moved to Villisca. Upon graduation in 1930 she worked for Karle's Bakery in Villisca.
She was married to Russell Roberts of Villisca. In 1956 they moved to Red Oak. There she worked for Woolsworth Five and Dime. Russell passed away in 1963.
December 22,1971, she was married to Elbert Kelley at the First Methodist Church in Red Oak. They resided on a farm east of McClelland, She enjoyed farm life, especially the large garden they grew. Another love was fishing trips and traveling to California to see her sSister and other relatives.
Mable was a fifty-six year member of the Eastern Star, Advisor to Rainbow Girls of Red Oak, and a member of the Business Women's Group in Red Oak.
She leaves to cherish her memory; husband Elbert; children Shirley Bishop (Richard) and Leland Kelley (Friend Linda), two sisters Edith Loutzenhiser of Bedford, IA and Peggy Dickenson of Arleta, CA, seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, along with nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; first husband, Russell; son Elwyn Kelley; brother Delmar, Carl, George, Clarence and Milton; Ruby and Grace.
There will be a visitation Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at First United Methodist Church in Red Oak from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A celebration of life service will be Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at First United Methodist Church in Red Oak at 2:00 p.m. with interment following at Villisca Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials contributions be made to Hospice.

[107] Kelso, Ermol Smith, a southwest Iowa resident for most of her 93 years, died August 4, 2005 at her son's home in Tucson, Arizona. Ermol was born in Malvern, Iowa, July 28, 1912, the third child of James and Rosa Nell Smith. Ermol married Beryl Kelso, son of Frank and Dora Kelso on November 13, 1929. They had two children, Donna Lee and Beryl, Jr.

Ermol spent most of her life on the Kelso farm south of New Market, Iowa. A typical farm wife, Ermol was known for her green thumb having a large garden and many beautiful flowers. She especially enjoyed raising chickens and grandchildren. Ermol always commented on the fact that she wanted to be a grandmother more than anything and her wish was granted in 1959 when her first grandson Kirk was born.

Ermol was known as someone whose home was open to anyone who wanted to stop by. She loved to host family and friends and was a wonderful cook and baker. Everyone felt welcome at the Kelso farm and nobody left empty-handed because Ermol was generous with whatever she grew in her beloved gardens. A good Christian lady, Ermol loved to read her Bible, Daily Bread and other Christian literature. Ermol and Beryl traveled often and spent time in missionary work.

Ermol spent many years contributing to World Vision, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of poor orphaned children around the world. Her family and friends remember her as a woman of deep faith and an uncompromising love for Jesus Christ.

Ermol was preceded in death by her husband Beryl in 1992; her parents James and Rosa Smith; two sisters, Audra Davidson and Verna Berringer; and two brothers, Walter and Harry Smith.

She is survived by four sisters, Hilda Lymer, Norma Hall, Opal Christensen and Eula Lea Warneke; one brother, Ernie Smith; her two children, Donna Lee Langer of Whitmore Lake, Michigan, and Beryl Kelso, Jr. of Tucson, Arizona; six grandchildren, Kirk Kelso and wife Roxanne of Tucson, Kent Kelso and wife Tamara of Independence, Kentucky, Brian Langer and wife Mary Ellen of Whitmore Lake, Michigan, Kendall Kelso and wife Terri of Granby, Missouri, Keaton Kelso and wife Karen of Mulberry, Kansas, and Nana Kate Kelso Higdon and husband Jason of Owensboro, Kentucky; sixteen great grandchildren, Rebecca, Kandice, Kourtney, Lindsey, Kyle, Kody, Natalie, Kacey, Kaylee, Herbie, Kaeden, Nolan, Jillian, Kellan, Jaxon, and Kaitlyn; and three great great grandchildren, Daniel, Kaleb, and Kinna due August 11, 2005.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2005 at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home located at 422 E Washington St. in Clarinda, Iowa followed by a gravesite ceremony at the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford, Iowa. Designated pallbearers include Ermol's grandsons and great grandsons. A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday evening, August 10, 2005 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

[108] Key, Bonnie Louise Silence - Funeral Services for Bonnie Key, age 69 of Blockton, who died Monday,
February 6, 2006 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr were held Thursday, February 9, 2006 at
2:00 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Interment was held in the Blockton Cemetery in. Memorials can be directed to the Blockton Community Building.

Bonnie Louise Key began her life journey on August 23, 1936, in Mondamin, Iowa. She was one of
five children born Earl Lee Silence and Selma Esther (Anderson) Silence. She lived her entire life in the State of  Iowa. On June 25, 1955, she was united in marriage to Louis Edward Key in Blockton, Iowa. To this loving union two sons and two daughters were born, Ronnie, Rodney, Rebecca and Rita.

Bonnie loved to watch wrestling and westerns on television. She enjoyed working word puzzles and listening to country music. She especially enjoyed the times when her grandchildren came to visit. She
worked in Independence at the county home for about five years and later when the family moved to Blockton she worked for Groff Locker for about seven years.

Left to cherish Bonnie's memory are her loving husband of over 50 years Louis Key of the Clearview Nursing Home; two sons, Ronnie and wife Jennifer of Ankeny; Rodney Key of Lenox; two daughters, Rebecca Devine and husband Dale of Woodward; and Rita Thurman and husband Ronald of Hatfield, Missouri; a sister Betty Duff and husband Raymond of Kasson, Minnesota; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services for William F. "Bill" Kiburz, age 80 of Bedford, who
died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Creighton  Medical Center were held
Friday, March 17, 2006 at 11:00.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home with
military rites accorded by the John F. Hardin American Legion Post
No. 164 at the funeral home.  Interment was held on Saturday, March

William F. "Bill" Kiburz was born January 17, 1926, to Frank and
Thelma (Welch) Kiburz in Scotch Grove, Iowa.  He grew up in the
Monticello, Iowa area attending Timber Country School through the 8th
Grade and then graduated with the Class of 1944 from the Monticello
High School.  After high school, Bill entered the United States Marine
Corps during World War II.  He attended Boot Camp at Paris Island in
South Carolina and then went to Camp LeJuengen in North Carolina. 
He went overseas in the Pacific and was assigned to the U.S. Flag Ship
with the Admiral who was in charge of all U.S. Mine Craft in the
Pacific Theater.  He traveled to several islands on Pacific Duty, three
different towns in Japan on Occupation Duty, and also to Shanghi,
China.  After his discharge Bill attended the University of Dubuque for
one year and graduated from Cedar Rapids Business College.  During
1948 and 1949, he served as a Deputy Sheriff for Jones County, Iowa. 
He then spent five years being a hog and livestock buyer in Monticello,
Iowa and also spent two years with Aetna Insurance Company in
Chicago, Illinois and Omaha, Nebraska. 

In 1957, he went to work for Armour and Company in Waverly, Iowa
where he met his future wife Sylvia Van Hove.  On April 20, 1958, the
couple was united in marriage in Titonka, Iowa.  Together they were
blessed with the birth of four daughters, Kimberly, Suzanne, Lisa and
Karla.  While with Armour, they also lived in Grundy Center and
Mason City, Iowa, St. Joseph, Missouri and Kansas City, Missouri.  In
1976, he was transferred to Bedford, Iowa where he was a hog buyer
for Armour, Swift, Con-Agri, and Monfort.  He retired in 1991. 

Following his retirement, they traveled extensively throughout the
United States and Canada.  Bill was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed
attending many races throughout the years.  His favorite pastimes were
outdoor recreation including camping, boating, hunting sports and
spending time with his family.  Bill was a member of the John F.
Hardin American Legion Post No. 164 and the Veteran's of Foreign
Wars.

Left to cherish Bill's memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Sylvia
Kiburz of Bedford; four daughters, Kimberly Hullinger of Maryville,
Missouri; Suzanne Neff of Columbia, Missouri; Lisa Kiburz of
Bedford; and Karla Kiburz of Hendersonville, North Carolina; five
grandchildren, Ross and Brock Hullinger of Maryville, Missouri; Eric,
Ryan and Haley Neff of Columbia, Missouri; a brother Kenneth Kiburz
of Marion, Iowa and a s sister Anna Linda Ganzer of Wheatland, Iowa
and a community of friends.

Preceding Bill in death were his parents Frank and Thelma Kiburz; a
sister-in-law Janet Kiburz; a brother-in-law Roland Ganzer; and many
aunts and uncles.

Helen Lucille Kirsch was born February 11, 1925 in Siam, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd S. and Dessie (Phillips) Smith. She passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2007 at Bryan/LGH Medical Center West in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Richard E. "Rick" Keeley, 24, Malaga, died January 1, 1988 as the result of a snowmobile accident near Leavenworth, Wa.
He was born July 10, 1963, in Everett to Don and Joyce Keeley. He and his family moved to the Wenatchee area in December of 1975 and he graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1981.
He was a member of the Iron Workers Union, Local No. 86, Seattle, and he enjoyed stock car racing and snowmobiling. He raced with the Three little Pigs Race Team.   
Survivors include his parents, Don and Joyce Keeley, Malaga; a sister, Cheryl Keeley, Malaga; and grandparents Estel Brown, Wenatchee, and Jake and Lois Scroggie, Malaga.

Kilgore, Frank FARMER COMMITS SUICIDE Frank Kilgore, a farmer who has been living southwest of Shannon City, committed suicide Wednesday morning by cutting his throat from ear to ear. He had been in ill health for some time, and the physician who was called Tuesday night warned the family that he was apt to injure himself or others. He escaped their vigilance yesterday morning and searchers found him dead in the orchard. He leaves a wife and several children. Kelley, Isabella Turner Ramsey
Isabella Turner was born in Beaver county Pennsylvania, October the 2nd, 1824.
In the year of 1851 she moved with her parents to Cedar county, Iowa, where she was married to Richard W. Ramsey., on the 11th day of February 1857.  Two daughters were born to this union. Mr. Ramsey died on the 16th day of April, 1864. Mrs. Ramsey was again married on the 24th of January 1867 to Robert Kelley with whom she removed to Taylor county, Iowa, settling on a farm near Siarn; where Mr. Kelley died on the 18 th day of July 1880. Sister Kelley united with the Presbyterian church in 1855 in Cedar county, Iowa.  In 1884 she united with the M. E church at Siam, la., under the   pastorate of Brother Heaton. She was a kind patient woman, thoughtful of others and uncomplaining during years of suffering.
She died on the 25th of March 1906, at her home near Siam, aged 81 years, 5 months and 23 days.
