She started school at a country school and later transferred to town and graduated from Lenox Community School. Pauline loved going to school, going to Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa after high school. After two years at Parsons she was able to get a teaching certificate and start teaching. Moving back to Lenox she started teaching in the Lenox school system. Pauline stayed at the Lenox Hotel while teaching and met second husband Lyle (Pete) Miller, who had a business across the street from the hotel.
