An Old Settler
"John Townsend, an old veteran of the Civil War and one of the pioneers of this county, started on his homeward journey, Saturday after visiting with his sister, I.L. Herbert, and with other relatives and old friends in this vicinity.  Mr. Townsend now lives in Sheridan, Wyoming but for nearly thirty years he was one of Taylor County's best known citizens.  He left here 24 years ago and since that time has lived in various parts of the west.

Mrs. Herbert accompanied her brother on his journey as far as the home of their relatives who reside west of Creston, where they will visit for a few days.   They also stopped at Lenox and were the guests of friends at that place for a short time."
