The Iowa Gravestone Photo Project has the mission to capture digital images of the gravestones of our ancestors buried in Iowa. This index contains the surnames found for those photos which have been contributed for Story County cemeteries. This index has been included as a convenience to visitors to this site who might not think to check the GPP site, and so that the site-wide surname search results will include the GPP photos. (When you use the site-wide surname search, GPP surnames will be included in the results. You can also use the link above to search only the surname index.)

You can view the actual photo entry by clicking on the search result. This will open a new window showing you the result within the GPP special project. If you want to search GPP for other counties, you may do so from that page.

The following information is displayed:

• Surname. This is the surname field as entered by the photo submitter, and may contain more information than just the surname you searched on..
• Given name. This contains “Decedent” when the surname was entered into the “Deceased Name” field. Otherwise it contains “Mentioned” which means the surname is found in the obituary but was not the name of the deceased.
• Cemetery Name.
