Sophia Caroline Peters, 97, of Hawarden, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden with Rev. Loren Vogler officiating. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden.

Sophia Caroline Schneider was born September 6, 1901, in Center Township, Sioux County, the daughter of George and Carolena (Boldenow) Schneider. In her youth she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an Operator.

She married Carl E. Peters on June 15, 1926, at Hawarden. Most of her life was spent as a homemaker and mother on a farm northeast of Hawarden. In later years she was a cook at the Mapes Retirement Home in Hawarden. Carl died April 4, 1954. Sophia moved to the Hillcrest Health Care Center in 1986. She was a long time member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Harlan Von Seggern, of Newton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Patricia Peters, of Carlisle, and Ronald and Sally Peters, of Cherokee; ten grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; a sister, Caroline Christensen, of Hawarden; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents; and three brothers, Carl, John and George Schneider.
