He was baptized and confirmed in the Poplar Church west of Kimballton and attended rural school in the area. Alvin was united in marriage with Esther Sorensen on November 29, 1933. Through the years Alvin was a significant supporter and benefactor of the town of Kimballton. He and Esther enjoyed traveling, especially to the Scandinavian countries. Alvin enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, making many trips to Minnesota and Canada. Departed on Dec. 4, 2009 and resided in Des Moines, IA.

Visitation: Monday, Dec. 7, 2009
Service: Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009
PRAYER SERVICE: Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009
Cemetery: Harlan Cemetery

Joanne Rickers Patterson, (62), passed away on December 4th, 2009 at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. She was warmly greeted at the pearly gates by the two loves of her life, Roger and Jack.

Heaven will be joyous and bright now that our beloved friend, mother, sister and daughter joined the angels. Joanne lived a vibrant and inspirational life. She touched countless lives with her positive energy and enduring smile. Memories of Joanne are colored by her beloved purple and scents of Chardonnay. She was a wonderful host both at work and at home. She had the ability to make any event special no matter how large or small. She cherished the times spent with friends and was always prepared to socialize. Even in her more challenging days she smiled and laughed with loved ones, especially if she was given a glass of wine. To describe Joanne as altruistic would be an understatement. She was committed to providing joy and comfort to others at every opportunity. According to her daughter, Tiffany, Joanne is now employed as a Guardian Angel. The world has lost a very special woman but her spirit will endure through all who have been blessed by her light. Look up to Heaven when you are in need and think of Joanne as she smiles upon you because hers is a smile that extends far beyond her death.

Joanne was born on September 12, 1947 in Earling, Iowa, one of ten children of Otto and Clara Kloewer. She graduated from Harlan High School. Joanne worked as an Events Coordinator at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines for 25 years. Joanne retired on August 2, 2009, due to related health issues. Joanne was a member of St. Augustin Catholic church, and very involved with the support groups, Ssenipah and LADOS. She was also active in many other convention and tourism related associations.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Roger Alan Rickers and Dr. John Patterson; and two brothers, Robert Kloewer and Raymond Kloewer. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her three children, Trew (Kirsten) Rickers of Atlanta, GA, Tyler Rickers of Madison, WI and Tiffany Rickers of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Campbell, Lucy and Nash; two brothers, John (Nona) Kloewer and Eugene Kloewer and five sisters, Rose Feldman, Theresa Johnson (Harlan), Bernice (Ray) Aschoff , Lucille "Tiny" (Mick) Schmidt, Mary Jane (Dale) Swanson, Sisters in law Jan Kloewer, sisters in law Carol (Lee) Rasmussen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday December 8th, 2009 at St. Augustin Catholic Church. A prayer service will also be held in Harlan, Iowa at St. Michael Catholic Church at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday December 8th, with burial following at Harlan Cemetery. Glendeen N. Wiig
(May 17, 1928 - November 5, 2009)

Glendeen Naomi Wiig, 81, of Bancroft, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the Pender Care Centre in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 8, at 2:30 p.m. at the Bancroft Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Charity Potter officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Bancroft with the family present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Bancroft Cemetery.

Glendeen was born on May 17, 1928 in Orosi, California to Earl Henry and Mabel Hope (Combs) Link. In her own words, Glendeen stated: “ In my first year my parents moved back to Grant City, MO so my parents could show me off to the relatives. In my youth we lived in Grant City, Mo, Winnetonca Heights, MO, and Phillipsburg, KS where I entered 6th Grade, progressing through high school graduation. The next four years were spent at Kansas State University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. I moved to Norcatur, KS where I taught vocal and instrumental music for two years. My next move was to Beaver City, NE, where I taught vocal and instrumental music for one year. Here I met a handsome young banker, Hilmer Irving Wiig, the love of my life. We met in the fall and the next summer we married in the Christian Church in Phillipsburg, KS on June 14, (Flag Day) 1953. We moved to Bancroft, NE in July where we both had a job. Hilmer as Cashier and CEO of the First National Bank and I taught vocal and instrumental music in the Bancroft Public School. To this union Trudy Kay and Leslie Lynne were born. After teaching for one year, I retired to volunteer status within the community. I was a member of the Bancroft School Board for eleven years, was an Elder, Deacon and Choir Director for the First Presbyterian Church, started the Girls Softball program in Bancroft, worked as a volunteer for the Homestead Presbytery, Presbyterian Church, USA, and volunteered teaching chimes at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, NE, and the Bancroft Senior Center. I praise God for sending us to Northeast Nebraska and Bancroft to live this good life among God’s caring people.”

Glendeen had many other varied interests which included watching her grandchildren grow up into young adults, Husker Football, garage sale-ing, fishing, camping, playing the trumpet, league bowling and spending time with dear friends. In her last years of life she was blessed to have two special caregivers, Sondra Bennett and Ruby Johnson, plus many volunteer drivers to take care of her and get her to dialysis. For these people she was truly grateful.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hilmer, two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

She is survived by her children, Trudy Wiig of Dallas, TX, and Leslie Gatzemeyer and her husband Kurt of Bancroft, NE, a sister, Roma and her husband Dennis and their children and families, and a brother Jerry and his children and families, two sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and her grandchildren, Kristen, Jace and Janae Gatzemeyer.
