Aden and I were married August 12, 1936 at Clearfield, Iowa. Under a maple tree in Ringgold county. We
set up housekeeping in my parents upstairs for a few months. Aden worked for Clarence Wood for $1 a day. He then worked
for I.S.U. light company for 3 weeks and we made $3.00 a day. We thought we were making it then. He ran a gas truck for
Earl Troxel that winter and in the spring we moved to the farm one mile south and 1/2 mile west of Ellston. Our first
child, a daughter Verlea, was born in 1937.We moved down the road to a place we lived in for 4 years. In 1942 we moved
again 2 1/2 miles south of Ellston, on the same road. Dean, our eldest son, was born here in 1944, where we lived
3 years. Then we moved back north the whole sum of 3/4 mile and we are still here.
We have a daughter and 3 sons. Our daughter
married Billy Lanty from Beaconsfield in 1960. They make their home in Burlington, Iowa. Billy works for J. I. Case and
Verlea for Lehigh Leopole. Verlea's eyes caused her to quit. They have 3 beautiful daughters. Denise is a beautician.
Tonya works computers for Kamout and Cherri is an assistant manager for a Hy-Vee deli in Davenport. Her husband is a
baker for Hy-Vee. They are expecting their first child in March.
Dean is married to Jeannie Marley (Helen O'Grady's
daughter). They live in Burlington and Dean works for C. W. Transport as a terminal manager for Iowa and Mo. Jeannie
works for Lehigh Leople as a pay roll accountant. They have 2 sons and both are married and in the Air Force. Both have
a daughter and will both be one in Feb. just 6 days apart. Mike, Dawn and Amanda are stationed in the Philippines and
Mark, Peggy and Megon are stationed in Omaha.
David was born in 1954 and is married to Shelia Stewart of Mt. Ayr. They
have 2 children, McKenzie, 8 years old and Mitchell, six years old. David works for Davis Equipment in Des Moines. Shelia
is a beautician at Winterset.
Dale was born in 1961. He and his wife Jerri Nichols of Grand River, live on a farm
1/2 mile south of us. They are such a help to us. They have 2 daughters, Andrea 4 years old and Becky is 14 months old.
We do lots of babysitting for these two.
Needless to say 1986 was a fun year for us. We loved seeing everyone after
all of 50 years and then had a successful 50th anniversary party.
