OBITUARY - OPAL BIRD

Opal Bird.jpg Opal BIRD, one of six children born to George and Minnie (ZOLLINGER-ESTEL) TINDLE, was born in Ringgold County, near Diagonal, Iowa on June 16, 1917. Opal entered eternal rest on Friday, July 11, 2008 at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, at the age of 91 years and 26 days.

Opal attended country school in Ringgold County until her marriage to Otto BIRD. Opal and Otto were united in marriage on March 3, 1933 in Grant City, Missouri. Together, they were blessed with nine children.

Following her marriage, Opal and her family moved to Creston where Opal worked driving a taxi for several years. She later worked for the Armour & Swift Poultry Processing Plant. Opal then began a long career as a Nurse Aide and worked for many area nursing homes. Most recently, Opal lovingly cared for the elderly by working at Crest Haven Care Centre for 44 years. She became a resident of Crest Haven in January of this year.

Preceding Opal in death were her parents; her husband in 1987; six of her children: Junior, Betty, Jerry, Larry, Danny and Donnie; and one grandson, Ricky. Opal was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Opal is survived by her sons: Rick BIRD of Anamosa, IA and Ronnie (wife Patty) BIRD of Creston; her daughter, Vicki (husband Joe) CONNELLY of Creston; 22 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Beulah ANTISDEL and Velma GILLS, both of South Gate, California and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family in Opal's name.
