Three candidates were interviewed and a new police officer hired when the Mount Ayr city council held a special meeting. The
council voted to hire Landon WHITE of Bedford as police officer pending all testing results.

Citizens to Protect Our Environment, a group of residents of Ringgold county, held an organization meeting at the REC
building in Mount Ayr with over 50 people attending.

More Ringgold county fair winner photos in this week's issue were: Winner of the cow-calf competition was T. J. BROWN;
a Diagonal 4-Her, Becky WERNER, took top honors in the pony division of the halter horse class; Josh SHIELDS and his
pet dog won several honors, including outstanding pet care and junior dog showmanship.

A card shower is being planned for Penny and Gaylan COMBS of Mount Ayr on their 40th wedding anniversary. They were
married July 31, 1954 in Ontario, CA.

Two MACHS drill team members, Christi SMITH and Amy SHAFER, were awarded the grand championship trophy at the four-day
drill team camp at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO recently. They are co-captains for the 1994-95
team.

MACHS Raiderette softball team advanced to the regional tournament finals with victories over Orient-Macksburg in
Orient and over Corning in Mount Ayr. The girls broke open close games with sixth inning multiple-run scores to take
the wins and move their record to 29-12.
