Mount Ayr volunteer firemen were called Tuesday morning at three o'clock to the Community Meat Processors plant on Highways 169 and 2 in Mount Ayr, to estinguish a fire in the smokehouse. Apparently, a
side of bacon fell and tipped over a pan of grease into the flames and caused heavy smoke damage. Approximately thirty sides of bacon were destroyed.

The Purple Heart, awarded posthumously to Pfc. Charles E. Sissel, was presented to his widow, Sharon Sissel, of Kellerton, Friday in Des Moines by Col. Chester H. Dunning.

Over 75 interested businessmen and farmers of Ringgold county met Wednesday night of last week in the courthouse assembly room to discuss plans for obtaining an airport in the county.

Maria Faye Lind, of Clearfield, and Dale Bickel, of Mount Ayr, were married in the Clearfield Methodist Church January 16 by Rev. E. C. Tschetter.

J. A. Tyson was appointed as civil defense director of Ringgold county by the board of supervisors. Mr. Tyson retired a year ago, concluding thirty years of service with the Soil Conservation Service, under the U.S.
Department of Agriculture.
