R. H. DUNKIN


R. H. [Reuben Henry] DUNKIN, farmer, stock-raiser and feeder, post-office Holt [Holt Twp.]. Subject was born in Morgan Co. IN, February 17, 1831. His early days were spent on a farm, engaged with the plow and hoe. Was educated in the subscription schools of his native county. In the fall of 1856 he removed to Ringgold county, this state, remained about 3 years, and came to Taylor county in 1859. Shortly after his arrival he purchased a tract of land, 30 acres of which had been broken and at once commenced improving it for his future home. Mr. DUNKIN has been twice married; first to Miss Susan McCARTNEY, of Louisville, Kentucky, in March, 1852. Of their children seven are living: John H., Benjamin F., Abram L., Ulysses S. G., Mattie Nora, Lorenzo Dow and Rufus. Seven are deceased. December 29, 1872, Mrs. DUNKIN passed away to join her loved ones who had gone before. Subject was again married, this time to Amanda EVERSON, of Champaign Co. IL. They are the parents of five children; three, Charley, Mary and Freddy K., are living.

NOTE: Reuben Henry DUNKIN settled in Ringgold County, Iowa, in 1856. He moved to Taylor County, Iowa, after purchasing land in sections 26 and 35 from his brother John Wesley DUNKIN.
