Twice-A-Week News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
1898

Hon. W. A. DeLASHMUTTE.

The subject of this sketch was born in the territory of Iowa, near Burlington, November 15, 1843. In 1845 he was removed by his parents to near Eddyville, where he grew to manhood and "earned his bread by the sweat of his brow" by working on a farm. His education was limited to the district school, but he early developed a taste for knowledge, and all through life has endeavored at every opportunity to gratify that taste.

In 1872, Mr. DeLASHMUTTE (sic, should be DeLASHMUTT) came to Ringgold county, settling near Goshen, where he improved a quarter sction of virgin sold and resided thereupon until 1877, when he came to Mt. Ayr and engaged in the grocery business. In this he continued until 1879, when he unceremoniously closed his business. Then taking a political interest was elected Ringgold county sheriff in 1880, serving until 1881. [rest of article is missing].

NOTE: Mr. DeLASHMUTT was the Ringgold County sheriff in 1880 to 1881; and, mayor of Mount Ayr in 1892.

Transcription and note by Sharon R. Becker, May of 2010
