Here's the information on this family:
 
Mother:  Sarah Emma Cox, daughter of Joseph Rue and Elizabeth (Thomas) Cox.  Born  1867 in Oxford, Mercer  County, Illinois
Father:  Harry Wilson Johnston/Johnstone, 1865-1895.  Born and died in Burlington Junction, MO.
 
They were married January 1887 in College Springs, Iowa.  They served as missionaries in Sierra Leone, West Africa.
 
After Harry's early death (TB?), Sarah studied chiropractic and practiced in Dennison, Iowa.  She was living there with Estella and Henrietta at the time of the 1910 U.S. Federal Census.
 
Harry and Emma had four children:
Irvin Fredrick Johnstone, born 1888 in Washington, D. C.  Died 1894 in Sierra Leone, West Africa
Mabel Johnstone.  Born 1890 or 1891 in Freetown, Sierra Leone.  Later taught in Davenport, Iowa.
Estella Rue Johnstone.  Born 1893, Bomboli Co., Sierra Leone.  Married Clarence LeRoy McChord 1916
Henrietta Johnstone.  Born ca 1896 in Iowa.  Married Rowland Chaney Jones
 
FYI
Sarah Emma Cox Johnstone was a double cousin of Bob's grandmother, Hallie Thomas Shum.   Sarah's  widowed mother came to Page County and College Springs because of the educational opportunities for her children there.  She operated a boarding house for college students.
