Abbott, David - This old and respected citizen died last Friday night, Oct 16, after a long and painful illness and several years of slowly failing health. He was in his 71st year, having been born in Ohio in 1815. He came to Page county in 1859, and in the years since then has been an active and prominent figure in the affairs of the county--a good citizen, a good neighbor, a faithful husband and father. He was a man of generous and charitable spirit. He was for 20 years a faithful member of the Universalist church, and his honorable life won a wide circle of friends ot mourn his death. Abbott, Maude Dougherty - Mrs Lewis (Maude) Abbott, 87, died this Monday morning in the Clarinda hospital and funeral services are pending with Walker Funeral Home.

Born in Clarinda August 16, 1883, she was admitted to the hospital Sunday night.

She is survived by one son Robert L. Abbott of Medford Lakes, NJ, one granddaughter and two grandsons.

Anderson, Blanche E. Taylor - Death came to Mrs Blanche E. Anderson, 75, at 2:45 am Wednesday at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital.

Mrs Anderson had been in ill health for three years, but had been able to take care of herself in her own home at 108 North 9th St until she was hospitalized on April 10.

Mrs Anderson was the widow of the late Charles E. Anderson, who passed away Nov 4, 1942. She was born in Bureau County, Ill, where she lived until the family moved to Clarinda in 1928. She was a member of the Methodist Church, the WSCS and the King's Daughters Sunday school class.

She is survived by four children, Mrs Kenneth (Charlotte) Goff, Clarinda, Mrs Ted (June) Pearson, Boone, Seneca Anderson, Denver, Colo, and Mrs Arden (Ina Grace) Cambre, Beaumont, Tex, two brothers, Ralph and Willis Taylor, both of Henry, Ill; and one sister, Mrs Bernece Keller, Denver, Colo. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Walker Funeral Home at 10:30 am Saturday, with the Rev David Ash in charge. Organ music will be by Miss Aletha Hutchings. Anderson, Charles E. - Charles E. Anderson, 59, junior high school janitor, who suffered a stroke Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs Kenneth Goff, at Bedford, died at the Municipal hospital Tuesday night at 7:30. He had gone to Bedford Sunday to visit his daughter and family and was stricken while eating dinner. He was brought from Bedford to the hospital here, where in spite of all medical aid, he did not regain consciousness.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Walker funeral home with Rev Charles Rowe, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge. Burial will be made in the Clarinda cemetery.

He is survived by one son, Seneca, who is in the US Army and is now stationed at Ft Sam Houston, Texas, three daughters, Mrs Kenneth Goff of Bedford, Mrs Ted Pearson of Clarinda, and Ina Grace Anderson, at home, a brother Clell of Chicago, Ill, and a sister, Mrs Inez Hayden of Wellsboro, Penn. Charles Edward Anderson was born September 29, 1883, on a farm in Putnam county, Putnam, Ill. He was the oldest child in a family of five children born to Charlotte and William Anderson. He passed away Nov 4, 1942, at the age of 59 years, 1 month and 6 days. He joined the Methodist church when he was a young man. On December 30, 1907, he was united in marriage to Blanche E. Taylor of Henry, Ill.

To this union four children were born. Surviving are his wife, Blanche, and the four children, Mrs Kenneth Goff of Bedford, Mrs Ted Pearson of Clarinda, PFC Seneca E. Anderson, now of San Antonio, Texas, and Ina Grace Anderson of Clarinda, a brother, Clell, of Chicago, Ill, a sister, Mrs L.J. Hayden, of Wellsboro, Penn, an aunt, Mrs Grace Kenney of Duda, Ill, an uncle, Joe Hunter, of Pamona, Calif, five grandchildren and a niece, Betty Jo Newhalfen, of Peoria, Ill. Preceding him in death are his two sisters, Blanche Anderson and Mrs Ed Newhalfen.

Besides the immediate family, others present at the funeral were Rolph Taylor of Sporland, Ill, Merle Taylor of Sporland, Mrs Willis Taylor of Henry, Ill, Mrs Lyda Taylor and children of Red Oak, Mr and Mrs Harry Hunter of Decatur, Nebr, and Mr and Mrs Basil Penry of Council Bluffs.

Services were held at the Walker funeral home Sunday, November 8, conducted by Rev Charles R. Rowe. Burial was in the Clarinda cemetery. Aletha Hutchings played the piano. Pallbearers were D.E. Carver, P.O. Grieve, R.W. Huddle, George Smith, Stanley Edgar and Roscoe Van dyke. Those assisting with flowers were Mrs R.W. Huddle and Mrs .O. Wamsley.

Anderson, George Andrew - The funeral of George A. Anderson, held at the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock, was a wonderful tribute to the life of a man whom Clarinda and his scores of friends held in such high esteem. The church auditorium was filled until part of the assemblage were seated in the adjoining Sunday school division.

Dr A.B. Thutt was assisted by Rev W. Albert Ericson of the Fremont Lutheran church in the service., both pastors giving intimate impressions of the esteemed man and his family. The front of the church was covered with a profusion of flowers.

Pallbearers were Ed Johnson, John Swanson, Frank Swanson, Clay Swisher, Guy Orth and Frank McManama. Mrs Forrest Davidson and Mrs Leo Humphrey sang, Miss Carrie Loranz being at the organ.

George Andrew Anderson was born at Creston, Iowa, on January 18, 1879, and died at Omaha, Nebr, June 18, 1934, aged 55 years and 5 months. He was the only child born to Mr and Mrs Andrew Anderson.

His early life was spent at Creston where he received his preparatory education. After graduating from the Creston schools, he continued his studies in a school at Omaha. Having thus prepared himself, he entered the shoe business at Shenandoah. This however was only a stepping-stone to the goal he had set for himself.

While thus engaged, in his spare time, he took up the study of law under the direction of Levi P. Mattox. In 1914 he was elected to the office of clerk of the district court of Page county, holding that office for three terms. During this time he continued his study of law, and was admitted to the Iowa bar in 1920.

In 1920 he was elected to the office of county attorney, but resigned that office in 1924 to form a law partnership with William Orr. The name of Orr & Anderson was destined to become well known in the legal profession.

Seventeen years ago, Mr Anderson was united in marriage to Miss Edna Hawkins. They started their home in Clarinda. To this union three daughters were born, Ruth, Marylin and Martha. Theirs was a happy contented home where their many friends were always welcome. It was always a pleasure to visit them.

Mr Anderson was truly a Christian gentleman at all times. He was interested in everything that was for the good of his fellow men, and was ever active in community affairs. He detested everything that would harm children, and never hesitated to throw his influence against wrong. He was kind, unselfish, sacrificing, and a strong true christian. After locating in Clarinda, he transferred his church membership to the Presbyterian church. He was always willing to bear his share of the burden of his church in its various affairs in an official way. He never shirked his duty. He was a constant, faithful member in attendance, a great help in the orchestra of the Sunday school, and an inspiration in the men's class. He will be sorely missed in every way.

In his early passing, he leaves to mourn his mother, his wife and three daughters, numerous relatives and a host of friends. CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Jun 21, 1934

Baker, Lillian M. Corbin - Mrs Lillian M. Baker, 93, of Clarinda, died Wednesday morning, November 5, at Goldenrod Manor where she had been a resident for the past eight years.

She was born April 1, 1904, at New Market, Iowa the daughter of Lafette and Grace Herriman Corbin. She married Merle Baker in 1940. They owned and operated the Baker Motel in Clarinda for 27 years before their retirement.

Mrs Baker was preceded in death by parents, husband, son Richard Bromley, five brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty Barlow and husband Denzel of Clarinda; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 10:30 am Saturday, November 8, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Clarinda with Rev Mark Wright officiating. Burial was in Clarinda Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Barger, Sylvia Hershey - Thanksgiving day brought to a close the life of a well known Bedford pioneer woman. Mrs Sylvia Hershey Barger, age 86. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Walker-Shum funeral home in Bedford, at 2:00 o'clock, with large attendance.

Mrs Barger, who has been an invalid for several years, was residing with a daughter in Bedford. She was a leading member of the Methodist church. Her father laid out and name one of Kansas' prominent towns, Abilene, and during her long life Mrs Barger herself wrote considerable history of the parts of Kansas and Iowa with which she was familiar. Sylvia Hersey was born April 27, 1859, the daughter of Timothy and Eliza Hersey, and was the first white child born in Abilene, Kansas. Her father founded and laid out the town, her mother taking the name from the Bible "Abilene" meaning "Peaceful."

When she was ten years of age her family moved to Beloit, Kansas. She received her education at Beloit and at the University of Kansas at Lawrence.

Sylvia Hersey was married to Charles Morgan Barger on the 6th of March, 1879. Four children were born to them, Maude Grace Barger, Myrtle May Barger, Edna B. Barger and Herbert C. Barger. Her husband and two eldest daughters preceded her in death. The surviving children are Edna Barger Paul of Bedford and Herbert C. Barger of Denver, Colorado.

There are also five grandchildren: Jean Beebe Nickols of Los Angeles, Ruth Paul Padgett of Bedford, Robert E. Paul of the U.S. Navy, Richard C. Barger of the army air corps and Kenneth P. Barger of the army air corps.

Her early married life was spent in Kansas. They moved to Clarinda in 1897 residing there until 1931 when they moved to Bedford.

Sylvia Barger spent her life in the service of others. She was prominent many years in the Woman's Relief Corps and in numerous capacaties of the Daughters of the American Revolution. A lifetime member of the Methodist church, she loved her church and never overlooked the opportunity of doing church work in the years her health permitted. Funeral services for Mrs Wilbur Beauchamp, 43, who died at the farm home five miles northeast of here Tuesday morning, were held from the Walker Funeral Home Thursday afternoon with Rev B.F. Hall in charge of the services. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery.

Mrs Beauchamp died following a short illness, becoming ill shortly after supper on Monday night. Attending physicians, Dr F.H. Clark, W.W. West and Dr C.W. McCollom, said the cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage, following a brain diagnoses by staff member of the State Hospital late Wednesday night.

The announcement discounts an early theory by doctors that death might have been caused by poison and investigation by county officers was dropped when the cause of death was learned.

Doctors at first said poison could have caused the death and steps were taken to have the stomach contents examined, but were dropped Thursday when the cause of death was determined.

Mrs Beauchamp complained of being ill about 7:00 Monday night and suffered convulsions until the time of her death. CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Dec 17, 1936

Carol Eggers was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, June 10, 1893, and departed this life at her home 7 miles northeast of Clarinda, Dec 15, 1936, at the age of 43 years, 6 months, and 5 days.

She was married twice. The first marriage to W.M. Lester. To this union were born Joe Lester, Clarinda, Iowa, Bud Lester, Bothell, Washington, and Mrs George Davis of Auburn, Washington.

In her second marriage, she was united to Wilber Beauchamp. One child was born to this union--Betty Carol.

Her suffering was of short duration which she bore with courage and patience.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, children, relatives, friends and acquaintances.

Funeral services was held at the Walker Funeral Home, Thursday, Dec 17, 1936 at 2 pm--Rev B.F. Hall, officiating.

Pallbearers, Emery Strong, Wendell McCunn, Hershall McCann, Archie Webb, Dwight Foster, and Walter Berringer.

Bellairs, Drew E. -Drew E. Bellairs, 91, of Clarinda died Thursday night, April 23, 1992 at Bethesda Care Center after a brief illness.

He was born January 19, 1901, at Angola, Ks, the son of Bart and Laura Virginia Wolford Bellairs. He was married to Irene Allison on June 15, 1929 at Cherryville, Ks. They lived in several locations and moved to Clarinda where they built their retirement home. Mrs Bellairs died in 1984.

Mr Bellairs is survived by a son Dale Bellairs of Clarinda, two grandsons and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Leon Bellairs of Altamont, Ks. He was preceded in death by parents, wife one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were held Monday morning, Apri 27, at the United Methodist Church with Dr Emmanuel Dass officiating. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery with Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Rotary Scholarship fund or the United Methodist Church. Bellairs, Irene Allison - Funeral services for Mrs Drew (Irene) Bellairs, 77, of Clarinda, will be held at the United Methodist Church at 1:30 pm Saturday with Rev Martin Miller officiating.

Mrs Bellairs died this Thursday morning at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha where she had been a patient since Sunday.

She was born Feb 29, 1907, at Cherryvale, Ks, the daughter of Winifred and Lula Redburn Allison. On June 25, 1929, she was married to Drew Bellairs, who survives.

Mr and Mrs Bellairs lived in Clarinda from 1944-48 and in Boone, Ia, and New Polland, Pa, until returning to Clarinda for retirement in 1975.

Besides her husband of the home, she is survived by one son, Dale, of Clarinda, two grandsons and one sister, Vera Hucke of Parsons, Ks.

Burial will be in the Clarinda cemetery with Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Bielema, Karilyn Kaye Adams - Graveside services for Mrs Gary (Karilyn Kaye Adams) Bielema, 38 of Greeley, Co, a former area resident will be at 10 am, Wednesday at Clarinda cemetery with Rev Del VandeKrol officiating.

Mrs Bielema died Friday morning at Greeley, after having being stricken at work the day before.

She was born Jan 13, 1945 at Maryville, the daughter of Kenneth and Enid Gray Adams.

She was employed as a legal secretary.

Besides her husband of the home she is survived by two daughters, Paula and Cristi Isaacson both of the home, her parents, Mr and Mrs Kenneth Adams of Clarinda, brothers, Ronald Adams of Waterloo, Ne and Skip Adams of Braddyville.

Bisbee, Eleanore Ward - The funeral of Mrs Eleanore W. Bisbee, who passed away July 18th, was held from the home on E. Chestnut Street, Friday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the Christian minister, James A. Burns. Interment was in Clarinda cemetery, beside the grave of her late husband C.W. Bisbee who died two years ago. Mr and Mrs Bisbee having for so many years been a prominent part of our community. Mrs Bisbee's maiden name was Eleanore Ward, having been born May 21st 1843 in Vergennes, Vermont, the youngest child in the family. Her father and mother lived on the same Vermont farm for more than 75 years, having celebrated their diamond wedding on the same place where they moved as a bride and groom. Mrs Bisbee was still on the same farm when she married Mr Bisbee, who was himself a farmer at that time, but engaged in railroading when they came west, Mr Bisbee being connected with the construction of the mainline of the Wabash Railway when it came through, and later with the construction work of the branch that was built to Clarinda, becoming the Wabash Agent here when the branch was completed. Later Mr Bisbee engaged in the insurance business, for William Orr and afterward for Orr & Turner.

Mr and Mrs Bisbee came to Clarinda just before Christmas day of 1879, and have since lived here, occupying only two residences in all that time. They were charter members of the Church of Christ in Clarinda, which they helped to organize. Mr Bisbee being the first elder of the church, and continuing an elder until the time of his death, Mrs Bisbee being likewise active as a teacher of the Bible School until infirmities of age caused her to cease from teaching.

There was no blood relatives to attend Mrs Bisbee's funeral, having only a niece living in Hartford, Conn. But William Orr who has made his home with the Bisbee's since the time they came here, was present, and Mrs Bisbee has made a host of Clarinda friends who were almost as near to her as relatives could be. Blume, Edward - Edward Blume age 103 of Clarinda died early Tuesday, Jan 30, at the Bethesda Care Center.

He was born October 7, 1886 at Lenexa, Kan, the son of John and Anna (Kasten) Blume. On Feb 11, 1914, he was married to Minnie S. Meyer who preceded him in death in 1976. Together they farmed until retirement. They moved to Clarinda in 1948. He was a member of St John's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one daughter Allene Wagoner of Clarinda and four sons, Edward Blume of Monrovia, Calif, Lawrence Blume and Victor Blume both of Clarinda, and Gerald Blume of Jefferson, Ia. There are 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at St John's Lutheran Church Friday, Feb 2, at 10 am, with Pastor Jeff Patterson officiating. Burial will be in the Clarinda cemetery. Bonsall, John Q. - John Q. Bonsall, 79, passed away at 1:10 Wednesday afternoon at his home in St Joseph, Mo, where he had lived since moving from Clarinda 27 years ago. He was a blacksmith by trade, well-known for his work in this vicinity.

Jake Bonsall and Bruice Bonsall from here were with the parents at the time of the father's death. The wife and five children survive, including the Clarinda men, Lloyd Bonsall and Mrs Eva Jones of Fall City, Nebr, and Mrs Emma Brovelite of Council Bluffs.

John Q. Bonsall was born March 7, 1868, in Mahaska County and passed away after three weeks illness resulting from a heart ailment April 30, 1947, at St Joseph, Mo. He was 79 years, 1 month and 23 days at the time of his death.

He grew up in the vicinity of Hawleyville, Iowa. He was a blacksmith by trade well known for his work in this vicinity. Twenty-seven years ago, he moved to St Joseph where he resided until his death.

In 1891 he was united in marriage to Martha E. Woodruff of Shambaugh, now deceased. To this union six children were born, one infant preceding his passing. In 1907 he was married to Emma Ellis, and to this union one child was born. Later, he was married to Edith Buck, November 11, 1913.

Those left remaining to mourn his passing are his wife, an adopted daughter, Vera May; six children, Lloyd of Loveland, Colo, Eva of Fallas City, Nebr, Bruice and Jake of Clarinda, Emma of Allen, Nebr, and Homer of Ulysses, Kans, three sisters, Mrs John Mair of Horton, Kans, Mrs Tillie Linstead and Mrs Mary Lamountain of Oskaloosa, Iowa. Twenty-three grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 3, at 3:30 pm at Walker Funeral Home, with Rev Cabbage in charge. Mrs Elva Moger and Mrs Gail Miller with Bill Miller at piano sang "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" and "We'll Never Say Good-Bye in Heaven." Pallbearers were grandsons, Maynard Smith, Norvel Jones, and LaVon Herzberg, nephews, Harry Annan, Henry Annan and John Annan.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs Emma Broveleit of Allen, Nebr, Maynard Smith of Lincoln, Nebr, Mr and Mrs Norval Jones, and Miss Delma Jones of Fallas City, Nebr, Mrs John Mair of Horton, Kansas, and Homer Bonsall of Ulysses, Kansas.

Bromley, Richard Merle - Funeral services for Richard Bromley, 52, will be at 1 pm Saturday at Walker Funeral Home following his death Wednesday at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. His illness has extended over a period of several years.

The family will meet friends at the funeral home 7 to 8:30 pm Friday.

Rev Ron Swedberg will officiate at the services, with Robert White as soloist and Gretchen Sperry organist.

Casket bearers will be Gerald Evans, Randolph Buckley, Melvin Jeske, Marvin Borden, Ray Glassgow, and David McAlpin. Burial will be in Clarinda cemetery.

Richard Merle Bromley was born Oct 27, 1924 near Tabor, to Wayne and Lillian Bromley. He attended grade schools in Page and Taylor counties, later graduating from high school in College Springs.

Soon after graduation, he enlisted in World War II in the Army and served for 28 months in the South Pacific area. For four years he had been in veterans hospitals in Iowa City, San Antonio, Tex., and Omaha, Neb.

He was a member of the American Legion and a member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church.

Surviving him are his wife, Carol, son, Richard Lee Bromley, of Shreveport, La., his mother, Lillian Baker, a sister, Elizabeth Jane Barlow of Waterloo.

Cagley, Mary A. McCain - Mary McCain Cagley the last of the 10 children of Samuel and Louisa Sadler McCain, was born March 2, 1861, in Clarion county, Pa and passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs George Gerberding, June 6, 1946, after an unfortunate incident of falling and fracturing her hip on December 10, 1945. She spent five weeks in the Clarinda Municipal hospital and the rest of the time with her daughter before her decease.

At the early age of 7 she migrated in a covered wagon with the members of her family to a homestead north of Clarinda where she received her education and later taught in the Page county schools.

In early life she united with the Presbyterian church of Villisca later transferring her membership to the United Presbyterian church of Clarinda where she remained faithful until the time of her death.

She was united in marriage to Levi M. Cagley on Feb 28, 1882, going with her husband to her present farm home where she spent the remaining 64 years of her life. Her husband preceded her in death July 18, 1916. To this union there were born three sons: Guy R. and George Samuel of Clarinda and Paul Levi, who died in infancy; four daughters: Mrs Cora Otte, Mrs Bessie Eden, Mrs Anna Gerberding, all of near Clarinda, and Mrs Zua Annan of LaSalle, Colo. Besides these sons and daughters she leaves the following grandchildren: Bruce, Wayne and Anna Rose Otte, Mrs Buelah Miller and Mrs Mabel Meyers, Carroll Lyle and Doris Eden, Nadine and Jack Annan and Mary Ann Gerberding. Another granddaughter, Fern Otte, preceded her in death at the age of 11 years. Two great-granddaughters, Marcia and Nancy Miller, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends mourn her passing.

The funeral services at the United Presbyterian church on Monday afternoon, June 10, were conducted by the Rev H.O. Lietman, with music by Mrs V.A. Crosthwait at the organ and a quartet composed of Mrs Helen Smith, Mrs Jessie Swanson, R.J. Swanson and Neil Johnston. Casket bearers were Roy Houston, George Williams, Earl Royer, Wilbert Mascher, Harry Douthit and Henry Krull. Cain, Rena Maude Sprague - Mrs Bud (Maude) Cain, 90, died at the Simons Nursing Home in Shenandoah at 6:50 pm Saturday, After an extended illness.

She was the daughter of the late Orin and Evelyn Sprague, and was born at Homer, Nebr. She was married Dec 14, 1895, at Gallatin, Mo, and she and her husband lived in that area until 1921 when they moved from Pattonsburg, Mo, and settled at Clarinda. Her husband died in 1944, after which she lived with her son, Manford Cain here until 15 years ago when she moved to Shenandoah to live with a daughter, Mrs Glen Watson.

She is survived by seven children, Mrs Tillman (Liza) Hearron, Mrs Arthur (Bonnie) Adams and Mrs Glen (Mary) Watson of Shenandoah; Mrs Eugene (Evelyn) Hetrick, Council Bluffs; Golden Cain, Hollandale, Fla; Mrs Edward (Wilma) Chenoweth, Omaha, Nebr; Manford Cain, Omaha, Nebr; and one sister, Mrs Calvin (Ina) England, Kansas City, Mo. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by two brothers, Roy and Myron Sprague.

Funeral Services will be conducted from the Walker Funeral Home at 2 pm Tuesday with Rev Fred R. Smith of Omaha in charge. Organ music for the service will be by Aletha L. Hutchings. Casket bearers will be Hubert Smith, Frank Fredericksen, Richard L. Wallace, Averill Baker, John Sudyka, and Louis Casper.

Croy, Cecil Kenneth, son of Kenneth C. and Ethel Graham Croy, was born in Clarinda, June 5, 1943, and met death by accidental drowning at the Clarinda swimming pool July 14, 1951, at the tender age of eight years, one month, and nine days.

Because of defective hearing he had attended the Iowa School for the Deaf at Council Bluffs the past three years, where he made rapid progress. He was spending his summer vacation at the home of his parents at the time of his death. He is survived by his parents; three sisters; Sonja Kay, Connie Jean, and Karen Sue; one brother Ronald Dean; his maternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs Charles Graham of Clarinda; his paternal grandmother, Mrs Alice Croy of Trenton, NJ; two great-grandmothers, Mrs Rhoda Davis and Mrs Mary Graham, both of Clarinda.

Services were held from the Walker Funeral Home at 3:30 pm Wednesday, July 18, with Rev Vernon Carter in charge, assisted by Rev D.C. Davis. Davidson, Allie Easterly. - Mrs Allie E. Davidson, 82, mother of Judge Harold E. Davidson, died Sunday at 1:15 pm at the Clarinda Municipal hospital where she had been taken early in December with a broken hip.

The funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Foster-Harmon mortuary. Rev D.C. Davis of the Presbyterian church will conduct the service and burial will be in Clarinda cemetery.

Mrs Davidson has lived in Clarinda since 1917. The family home was on a farm near Olin, Iowa, and then she moved into the town of Olin. When her two sons came to Clarinda to practice law, she came to make her home near them. Harold, her oldest son, is now judge of the 15th judicial district of Iowa, and her other son Forrest, preceded her in death. Her grandchildren, Mrs Robert Bordner and Dick Davidson of Des Moines, will both come for the services. Mrs Davidson maintained her own home, even after she suffered a stroke last March. At that time, she was in the hospital for five weeks, and went to her own home under care of a practical nurse. Allie Easterly Davidson was born December 17, 1867 on a farm near Olin, Jones County, Iowa, and departed this life on the 22nd day of January, 1950 at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital at Clarinda, at the age of 82 years 1 mo and 5 days.

She was the second of six children born to Thomas W. and Martha J. Easterly. Her father, mother, one sister and two brothers have preceded her in death. Her education was received in the rural schools and in the high school at Olin, Iowa. After her marriage in the fall of 1889, she lived for one year on a farm near Stanwood, Cedar County, Iowa and then removed to a farm near Olin, Jones County, Iowa, where the family resided for approximately eighteen years. She moved to Olin, where she resided until 1917. She came to Clarinda in 1917 to reside with her son, Harold who had begun the practice of law in Clarinda in the year 1916.

Mrs Davidson was the mother of two children, Harold E. the elder of Clarinda, and Forrest H. who preceded her in death.

She leaves surviving her one brother, E.R. Easterly of Olin; one sister, Mrs B.F. Steward of Grand Junction, one son, Harold and his wife, Thelma, of Clarinda, two grandchildren, Martha Jean Bordner, of Des Moines, and Richard George Davidson of Clarinda, and one great granddaughter; also, her deceased son's widow, Harriet, a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She became a member of the church at an early age and was a faithful worker at Olin, and of the Presbyterian Church of Clarinda since she has resided here. She was active in the Women's Relief Corps, the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and social clubs.

She was a daily reader of the Bible, read many magazines, books and periodicals and, as a result, compiled many scrap books of clippings of outstanding writers and authors. While her health permitted, she delighted in raising and cultivating flowers and her advice was often sought by those less experienced and trained in this art and science.

She was extremely fond of children and was devoted to her family. Her sincerity of purpose was pronounced in her affection for her sons. This was apparent for since the death of her son, Forrest H. in 1945, she has declined steadily physically.

Services for Mrs Davidson were held January 25 at the Foster-Harmon Mortuary, with her pastor, Rev D.C. Davis, in charge. Casket bearers were C.E. Bradley, W.S. Richardson, Darrel Davison, Port Stitt, W.C. Hemphill and George Segrist, and those in charge of the flowers were Mrs W.S. Richardson, Mrs C.E. Bradley, Mrs John Knowles, Mrs Robert Hawley. Burial was in the Clarinda cemetery.

Davidson, Forrest Harper - Forrest Harper Davidson was born near Olin, Jones County, Iowa, on February 16, 1893, the second son of Homer E. and Allie E. Davidson, and departed this life at Clarinda, Iowa, on August 23, 1945, aged 52 years, 6 months and 7 days.

He first attended the country school and later attended and graduated from the Olin high school in 1912. He did not return to school until the fall of 1915, when he became a student in the Law School of Drake University. He enlisted in the first World War at Anamosa, Iowa, on September 20, 1917, and served with the 88th Division. At the time the 88th Division went overseas, he was seriously ill in the bas hospital with inflammatory rheumatism, which, no doubt, weakened his heart. However, he was later returned to active duty and became Regimental Sergeant Major, which rank he held at the time he was honorably discharged on November 26, 1918.

After leaving the service he worked as an inheritance tax examiner for the State Treasurer of Iowa until the fall of 1920, when he again reentered the Law School at Drake University and was graduated with honors on June 1, 1922. After graduation he came to Clarinda, and entered the law practice with W.F. Stipe and his brother, Harold, under the firm name of Stipe, Davidson & Davidson. This firm continued until January 1, 1943, when his brother resigned to become one of the judges of the 15th Judicial District of Iowa. The firm name since that date has been Stipe & Davidson. During all these years he was engaged in the active practice of his profession and remained so until the very last.

Forrest in his early life worked on the farm, on the railroad as a day laborer and operated a restaurant between his college work at Cornell and his attendance at Law School. He continued to work during the time he was taking his law course to assist in providing his own way.

He was made a Mason in his home town lodge in Olin, Iowa, just after he became 21, from which he later transferred and became affiliated with Nodaway Lodge No 140 of this city. He was awarded the 32nd Degree by the Des Moines Consistory. Was a member of the Chi Delta and Delta Theta Phi college fraternities. He was Past Post and County Commander of the American Legion. He has served as Iowa Department and 7th District committee chairman and in may other capacities. He was always devoted to the cause and particularly glad to help disable ex-soldiers in the receiving hospitalization or other benefits to which he was entitled.

When the National Guard Company of Clarinda was formed, he became a 1st Lieutenant and later took command of the Company, in which position he continued for about 14 years. He was inducted into the federal service in this war on February 10, 1941, but was relieved of his command on February 22, just 12 days later, by order of the President after having been found physically disqualified for active duty. This message was one of the greatest disappointments of his entire career, for he loved his country and his boys in the company. Having served in the last war he wanted so much to serve in this one.

When the Iowa State Guard was formed in December of 1941, he was commissioned a Major and commanded the 2nd battallion of the 1st regiment, was promoted to Lt Colonel February 23, 1944, and served in that capacity until July 1944, when forced into inactive duty because of ill health.

He was married to Miss Harriet Richey at her parents home in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on July 22, 1925, and who, since that time, has been his faithful wife until the last.

He was active in his church and community, having been elected twice Mayor of Clarinda and served as such from April 1941 to April, 1954; was a director in the Red Cross, on the Boy Scout Council, member of the Chamber of Commerce, member of the American and State Bar Associations, and a Past President of the Page County Bar Association. He was a member and regular attendant of the First Presbyterian church of this city, taught a Sunday school class for years, served in various church offices and was one of the Elders at the time of his passing.

He was noted for his integrity, sincerity of purpose and high degree of devotion to every duty entrusted to him.

Forrest was always devoted to his mother and his home and leaves to survive in this community his wife, mother and brother, Harold, his wife and their two children, Martha Jean and Richard; and many other relatives in eastern Iowa and a host of friends all over the state. Davidson, Harold Easterly - Harold Easterly Davidson, judge of the district court for 23 years and a Clarinda attorney since 1916, died this Thursday morning [Jan 21] just a little more than a month away from his 80th birthday.

Services are to be this Saturday at 2 pm from the Westminster Church with the Rev D.C. Davis officiating. The family will receive friends at Lavelle Funeral Home from 7-8:30 pm Friday.

Judge Davidson retired from the bench on his 75th birthday, a mandatory retirement age for Iowa district court judges, 50 years after coming to Clarinda and 23 years after becoming a judge of the 15th Judicial District of SW Iowa.

He has continued his interest in law during the past five years, serving of counsel in the firm of Davidson and Hemphill where he had been a partner before going to the bench in 1943.

He came to Clarinda in 1916 after graduation from Drake University law school and had lived here since then, except for a short stint in the Army during World War I.

A native of Olin, near Cedar Rapids, Mr Davidson had made plans to establish his practice in Marshalltown after graduation from Drake University. But a fellow student Elwood Leaf, who had been hired here with the chamber of commerce, encouraged him to come to Clarinda instead. He did immediately after graduation and established a law firm of Davidson and Leaf.

Subsequently he associated with W.F. Stipe in the partnership of Stipe and Davidson and three years later was joined by his brother, Forrest Davidson in the firm of Stipe, Davidson and Davidson, the son, Richard, became associated with the firm in 1954, and William C. Hemphill is currently a partner of Davidson and Hemphill.

Mr Davidson had been an outstanding athlete at Drake University, lettering in both football and track as a sprinter. He continued his interest in sports his entire life, actively officiating events in this area many years and one of the Drake Relay officials each year until recently, missing only one year when he was in the service.

While at Drake he was a member of the lettermen's club, a member of Chi Delta fraternity and president of Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity. In 1969 he received the Double D award from Drake University for distinguished service.

He was always interested in working with youth, especially through his service as district judge as he helped juvenile offenders.

Before going onto the bench in 1943, Mr Davidson had served in numerous political posts including state representative, county party chairman, and Clarinda mayor. In 1936 he was ran for state attorney general but was defeated by the Democrat candidate during what he termed " a year that wasn't a particularly good year for Republicans."

He served as state representative in the 39th General Assembly in 1919-1920 and was chairman of the Page County Republican Central Committee from 1928-1936. In 1925 he was elected mayor and re-elected two years later and again in 1939.

In 1939 he was appointed counsel for the Iowa Commerce Commission and held that position until his election as judge.

He was nominated as a condidate for district judge at the convention in Council Bluffs, during the summer of 1942 and elected that fall. His term began Jan 1, 1943, and he was senior member of the judiciary in the 15th District when he retired in 1966.

He was also chairman of the nominating commission which selected two candidates for replacement, the governor making the final appointment of Judge Harold Martin of Sidney that year. He was a past president of the Iowa District Judges Assn and the Iowa Pioneer Lawmakers Assn besides membership in the county, district, state and American bar associations.

Judge Davidson was instrumental in opening the Clarinda Country Club and was the first commander of the American Legion Post here. He had served in the Army for two years in 1917 - 1918.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 140 and the Scottish Right Consistancy and ZaGaZag Shrine. He was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church since coming to Clarinda.

He and his wife, the former Thelma Cheese, were married in 1924. Surviving besides his wife are two children, Richard G. Davidson and Mrs Martha Jean Bordner, both of Clarinda, and five grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer E. and Allie Easterly Davidson, his brother Forrest, and his son-in-law.

Davis, Addie M. - Addie M. Davis, 87, died at 6 pm Monday at her home, near Maryville, following an illness of four years.

She was born April 17, 1892, at Gravity, Iowa, the daughter of the late James and Martha Garfield Davis.

Surviving are two sons, Lawrence Davis, Maryville, and Leonard Davis, Clearmont; three sisters, Amy Smith, Kansas City; Mamie Knerr, Corning, Iowa; and Gladys Green, Prescott, Iowa; one brother, Harley Davis, Bedford, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Davis, Eloise Benson - Funeral services were held at the Walker Funeral Home this Monday afternoon for Mrs Eloise E. Davis, 78, who died here Sunday following a long illness. Rev Ellsworth Woods, pastor of the Church of Christ, was in charge of the services, burial being in Memory cemetery.

Born in Washington, Iowa, she spent most of her life in New Market and had been seriously ill for the past four years. Her husband, E.D. Davis, preceded her in death about ten years ago.

Eloise E. Benson, daughter of Almira E. Benson, was born near Washington, in Washington county, Iowa, July 14, 1861. She grew to young womanhood here, moving with her parents to Page county, Iowa, in the spring of 1880. She was united in marriage to Levi Davis on December 31, 1891, who passed away on December 1, 1901. She was again married to George Marsell March 25, 1906. She was again left alone after a year of constant care and nursing of a kind husband on January 21, 1917. On account of poor health she went West where she was again united in marriage to Ed C. Davis on May 21, 1919. He passed away on May 23, 1921. Her health failed again when she came to make her home with her sister, Mrs Willis Brooks, on December 6, 1935. After 3 1/2 years she was taken to the hospital where she passed away on July 30, 1939, at the age of 78 years and 16 days.

Her parents with four sisters and four brothers preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing one sister, Mrs Willis Brooks of New Market, and three brothers, John Benson of Appelton City, Mo, Lee of St Joseph, Mo, and George of Hemit, Calif.

She was a kid and faithful wife taking almost the entire care of her husbands in their final sickness; always ready to lend a helping hand to all in times of sorrow or sickness as long as her health permitted.

She was united with the Methodist church in her girlhood and attended church as long as she was able.

Besides her brothers and sister she is survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins with many friends.

Davison, H.H. - H.H. Davison was born in Buchanan county, Mo, Nov 15, 1848, and died Thursday Aug 31, 1922, aged 74 years 10 months and 16 days. He was married to America Linebaugh Sept 15, 1880. To this union were born three sons--Lawrence E. of Clarinda, Samuel W. of Denver, and John A. of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He with his family came to Page county, Iowa, about thirty-two years ago, locating on a farm near Shambaugh, where they resided for about ten years, then moved to Clarinda, where he lived until the death summons came. He had not been well for some time but was not seriously ill until about one week before his death, when he was taken to the home of the son, Lawrence, where he passed away. He united with the Christian church about six years ago and retained his membership till the end, and died in the triumph of a living faith. He leaves his wife, three sons, fifteen living grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild having preceded him to the better world. Mr Davison left one living sister and two brothers. The funeral services for Mr Davison were held on Saturday at 2 o'clock at the home where he died, and were conducted by Rev J.W. Cabbage of Shambaugh. Interment was in the Clarinda cemetery. Mr Davison leaves many friends as was evident by the large number who attended the funeral and sent so many beautiful flowers. Depew, Effie Jane McAlpin Taylor - This community was shocked and saddened Monday morning when it was learned that Mrs Effie Depew had passed away suddenly Sunday night. Although she had been poorly for several months, she was able to ride out Sunday evening to watch the workmen at work on road No 3. She had also attended Sunday school and church. While out at road No 3 about 7 pm Sunday she suffered a paralytic stroke and passed away at 11 pm.

Effie Jane McAlpin, daughter of Robert and Mary McAlpin, was born in Davis county, Iowa, March 25, 1856, being 74 years, 3 months and 19 days of age at the time of her passing.

On June 29, 1873 she was united in marriage to George William Taylor who preceded her in death March 13, 1918. To this union were born two children: J. Bert Taylor, who passed away in Colorado, December 3, 1915 and Mrs Essie Lake, wife of Will Lake of Villisca. She was married to John Depew on April 20, 1921.

Two sisters, Mrs Mary Glasgow and Mrs Alice Harris and two half brothers, Charles B. McAlpin and David McAlpin preceded her.

Besides her daughter she is survived by two half sisters, Mrs Dora Western, of Villisca and Mrs Abbie Hunter of New Market, two half brothers, George R. McAlpin of Clarinda, and Tom McAlpin of Villisca; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She united with the church at an early age and was an active worker in church and Rebekah lodge. The funeral was conducted at the home Wednesday at 2:30, by the Rev Osborn. Interment was in Memory cemetery. The relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement. Eitzen, Paul - Paul John Eitzen, son of Mr and Mrs John P. Eitzen, passed away Wednesday morning, April 15th, at the home of his parents northwest of town, at the age of not quite eight years. The funeral services are scheduled to be held this Thursday afternoon, from the home, conducted by his pastor, Rev F.C. Israel, services at Immanuel Church following short services at the residence. Farlin, Helen Lasley, 73, of Clarinda died Thursday evening (Nov 12, 1987) at the home of her son, Mike Farlin.

She was born Sept 7, 1914, in Clarinda, the daughter of Charles and Charlotte Weaver Lasley.

Mrs Farlin had worked at Milligan's Cafe in Villisca before moving to Clarinda in 1958. She worked at Jed's Cafe and the Branding Iron here in Clarinda.

She is survived by two children: Michael Gene Farlin, Clarinda, and Helen Carol Mack of Shenandoah. There are seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Harley Lasley of Littleton, Co, is a brother.

She was preceded in death by parents, five brothers and three sisters.

Fessler, Laura B. - Mrs T. (Laura B.) Fessler, 61, devoted minister for 21 years at Rose Hill Church, died at 12:05 early Sunday at the Gillespie Nursing Home after an illness extending for most of four years.

Memorial services are being held Wednesday. The prayer service for the family and members of the Rose Hill Church will be at 11 am at the Rose Hill Church, a service to be a reverent closing of her devoted life as a minister.

The funeral service is to be 1:30 pm at the Walker Funeral Home with the Rev A.E. Wilkens in charge, assisted by Dr J.D. Almes. The Rev D.C. Davis will conduct the committal service at the Clarinda cemetery.

The Fesslers have lived in Clarinda for 25 years, both Rev and Mrs Fessler being ministers. The Fesslers had served at the Church of God in Shambaugh for five years before she took the pastorate at Rose Hill Evangelical-United Brethren Church, four miles north of Clarinda, which continued for 21 years. In 1962 she was cited by the Iowa Conference EUB for having served "as a home missionary, wife of a minister and minister for 21 years."

The relationship between the pastor and member of the Rose Hill Church was considered about as close as those of a family. Beginning in 1951 Mrs Fessler served as nurse aid for the Clarinda Municipal Hospital, these 11 years being devoted to duties beyond the mere care of people, serving as counselor to many of her patients.

Mrs Fessler was born at Iowa City on Dec 20, 1903 and attended Findlay College at Findlay, O, where she met her husband. After their marriage in 1923, they served as home missionaries in Arkansas and Southern Missouri.

The Fesslers' oldest son, William Harris, is an electrical engineer with residence at Moorestown, NJ, the other children being Dr Myron D. being physician at San Diego, Calif, and Mrs Roy I. (Evelyn) Priem is a registered nurse and wife of a minister at Clinton, Ia. They have seven grandchildren. A step son is Robert Fessler, brother is Raymond Ranshaw of Chariton and sister Mrs Tom B. (Lily) Gordon of North Liberty.

The Fessler residence continues at 614 N 11th St where the family is with the father.

Fulton, Charles - Charles Fulton, veteran of the Spanish-American war and might fine citizen of this community, is being paid last respects Thursday afternoon following his sudden death only a few hours from heart attack late Tuesday night.

Mr and Mrs Fulton were formerly in charge of the Page county farm, and since retirement from there, have built up an attractive rural home west of Clarinda. The services are at 2:30 this afternoon at Pruitt Funeral Home, the Masonic lodge being in charge and Dr A.B. Thutt preaching the funeral sermon. Burial will be in Clarinda cemetery.

State Road - State Road, June 18--State Road friends and neighbors are mourning the loss of two of its residents recently. One is Charlie Fulton who has lived in this neighborhood for many years, always active in all local, school or patriotic affairs. He will be sorely missed by his many friends, both young and old. The sacred Masonic rites were used at the cemetery, followed with services by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The flowers, symbolic of the different organizations of which he was a member, were many and beautiful. Although not in good health because of heart trouble and failing eyesight, Mr Fulton had not been thought any worse than usual, but about 4 pm Tuesday he suffered a severe heart attack followed by a fatal one that same night. Among those who were here from a distance to attend these last sad services for their dear one were Mr and Mrs Charles Rowe of Chariton and Mrs Rowe's two sisters from Chicago, Mrs Wm Van Ashe and Miss La Verne Engel. Mr Rowe is a brother of Mrs Fulton. Mrs C.N. Anderson came from Chariton, a lifetime friend of the family; Owen Jones and Harry Carlon from Oskaloosa, who were close friends and army pals of Mr Fulton, and member of the Jas. A. Ross camp of Spanish-American war veterans, of which Mr Fulton was an interested member. Last Armistice day Mr Fulton took an active part in the services the patriotic organizations put on, and had a hearty visit with the speaker of the day, Ex-Governor Dan Turner, an old friend and comrade of war days. Mr Fulton served as secretary of the McCunn school district for many years, resigning two years ago because of poor health, but still retaining his interest in all school affairs, and always ready to give advice on those problems with which he was familiar. Fulton, Cora Rowe - Mrs Cora Fulton, 77, died Saturday [Jan 11] at 6:05 pm at the Gillespie Rest Home, where she had been making her home since early winter.

The funeral plans are announced for Wednesday at 2 pm at the Walker Funeral Home, Mrs T. Fessler in charge. The burial will be in Clarinda Cemetery where her husband, Charles H. Fulton, was buried in 1937.

Mrs Fulton was formerly Cora Rowe, of Chariton, Ia, and her brother, Charles A. Rowe, still resides at Chariton. She has three children, including Robert E. Fulton of Tenten, Wash, Charles R. Fulton, of Trynor, Ia, and Mrs Margaret A. Steiner of Hampton, Va.

The family home was 2 1/2 miles west of Clarinda on Highway 2 until Mr Fulton's death. Mrs Fulton remained here for a while and moved to be with her daughter at Hampton, Va, from 1943 to 1950. Gorrell, Hazel I. Hall - Hazel I. Gorrell, 93, of Clarinda died early Tuesday, July 30, 1991 at the Bethesda Care Center, where she had been the past six weeks.

Hazel was born June 2, 1898 on a farm to James and Nora (McGowen) Hall. She was married to Paul Gorrell on August 25, 1936. He died Oct 22, 1975. She was a long time member of the Clarinda Rebekah Lodge. She was a Charter member of Waubonsie Auxiliary L.A.P.M., a secretary many years and a member of the First Christian Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and one brother.

Survivors include three nieces, Mrs Archie (Maxine) Higgins of Clarinda; Ethel Lawson of Clarinda; Mrs Robert (Hazel) Cowan of Glenwood.

Gorrell, Paul V. - Paul V. Gorrell, 74, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at 4:40 pm Wednesday. The resuce unit was called to the home at 315 East Main St.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Walker Funeral Home at 10:30 am Saturday with Rev John Clark in charge. Burial will be in the Clarinda cemetery.

He was a native of Clarinda, and was the son of the late E.N. and Goldie Wallace Gorrell. He worked for the Clarinda post office for 38 years as a letter carrier, retiring in the late 1950's, after which he worked for Ralph Brokaw for about 7 years as a painter.

He was a longtime member of the IOOF lodge, serving as treasurer and trustee for the past 25 years, and also serving as chaplain. He was also a member of the Grand Encampment Nodaway No 29, serving as secretary for 35 years, and a member of Waubonsie Canton No 43, and was secretary for many years.

Paul V. Gorrell was born Sept 6, 1901 in Clarinda, the son of the late E.N. and Goldie Wallace Gorrell, and passed away unexpectedly at 4:40, the afternoon of Oct 22 at his home.

He attended school in Clarinda and served 38 years as a letter carrier for the Clarinda Post Office, retiring from that job in the late 1950's. After that he worked for Ralph Brokaw as a painter for seven years. While employed by the Post Office, Paul served as a State Officer in the Letter Carrier's Assn and was holder of 50 year membership of the Postal Record.

He was a long time member of the IOOF Lodge, serving as Treasurer and Trustee for the past 25 years and had served as Chaplain in the Burial Ceremony. He was a member of the Grand Encampment, Nodaway No 29, serving as Secretary for 35 years and a member of Waubonsie Canton No 43, having served as Secretary for a number of years. He had belonged to Clarinda Rebekah Lodge No 317 since 1942.

Paul was appointed Police Court Judge and considered it a great honor to serve in that capacity during the time he held that office. He was deeply interested in Community affairs and an ardent booster of projects pertaining to the betterment and welfare of all people.

To know Paul was to love him. He was happiest when he could do something to help someone else who might be having a difficult time. He thoroughly enjoyed his neighbors and friends, and was always cheerful and optimistic - a great fraternalist. He had a deep and abiding Faith and had been a member of the Christian Church for many years.

Paul was married to Hazel Hall, Aug 25, 1936.

Graham, Hattie E. Kellogg - Mrs Hattie E. Graham, 82, of Clarinda died Monday evening at Bethesda Care Center where she had been for the past month.

She was born September 14, 1898, near Clearmont, Mo, the daughter of James and Maggie Elam Kellogg.

She was married to Virgil McClure and later to Roy O. Graham, who preceded her in death in 1977.

Mrs Graham had worked at Swift's and at Berry Seed Co. before her retirement.

Survivors include sons: Richard Graham, Clarinda, Ralph Graham, Hampton, Va, James McClure, L.A., Ca, Derald McClure, St Louis, Mo. There are six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son Donald McClure and a stillborn infant Shirley Graham.

Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev John Clark officiating. H.E. Richardson were soloist and Grace Perry organist. Casket bearers were: Cliff Carmichael, Wayne Johnson, Rollyn Sunderman, John Lisle, Gary McKay and Ferrell Stewart.

Gregory, Oliver S. - Funeral services for Oliver S. Gregory, 64, of Clarinda will be at 2 pm, Sunday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev Jerold Irvin officiating.

Mr Gregory died Wednesday night at Atlanta, Ga, where he was visiting his daughter.

He was born Oct 4, 1915, at Clearmont, Mo, the son of Oliver O. and Anna Davison Gregory.

On Nov 5, 1939 he was married to Lucille Morehouse of Hopkins, Mrs Gregory preceded him in death Dec 13, 1978.

Mr Gregory served in the Navy in WWII and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He had worked for Lisle Corp. for 41 years, serving as sales manager at the present time.

Survivors include three children: Steve Gregory, Clarinda, Ruth Pigg, Hudson, Ia, and Mrs Dan (Mary) Mitchell, Atlanta, Ga. There are four grandchildren. His mother Anna Gregory lives at Clearmont, Mo, and mother-in-law, Ruth Hopple at Hopkins, Mo.

Hayworth, Benjamin - Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home for Benjamin Joseph Hayworth, 66, of Clarinda. Hayworth passed away Monday evening at Municipal Hospital following a heart attack.

He was born April 25, 1915, at Sheridan, Mo, the son of Alph and Mina Hayworth. He attended school at Sheridan, and graduated in 1935.

He worked in Montana prior to entering the Army in 1942. He served in campaigns in Normandy, France, Rhineland, Germany and Austria, and was awarded the European African Theatre Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars. He returned to Conway after separation from the Army in 1945.

He worked in the Page and Taylor County areas and married Lillian Hillis Simmons in 1963.

He was preceeded in death by his parents and two infant sisters. Hayworth, Lillian Hillis Cross - Mrs Lillian Hayworth, 66, of Clarinda died Wednesday, July 1 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

She was born March 22, 1926 in Adams County, the daughter of Elvin and Eliza [Robinson] Cross. She was married to Roland Harry Simmons in 1943. Later she was married to Ben Hayworth who preceded her in death May 11, 1981.

Mrs Hayworth had worked at nursing homes and MHI before her retirement.

Howe, Leonard W. - Leonard Walter Howe was born March 7, 1919, at Defiance, the son of Claude Howe and Blanche Mae (Brock) Howe. He entered into rest Friday, Feb 9, 2007, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Council Bluffs. Leonard graduated high school from the Defiance Public Schools. Leonard was married to Darlene Warrick who preceded him in death in 1973. On Oct 8, 1976, he married Benita Mae Kunnemann.

On Jan 20, 1942, Leonard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a mechanic. He went overseas in June 1942 landing in England to practice gunnery. He was then sent to Scotland to help bring on the first flights of B17 bombers from the United States to England. He was sent to Africa for the invasion of North Africa in December of 1942 and moved up the line east to Oran. Leonard stayed there until the Germans were out of North Africa. In December 1943, he was moved to Italy. The European Theater ended while he was in Italy. Leonard returned to the United States in June 1944.

Leonard worked as a farmer before and after World War II. He made several short-term trips to Greenland as a heavy equipment operator during construction season to help build an airbase. He then went to work for Fruehauf in Omaha, Neb. He started in shipping and receiving in 1961 and retired in 1980 as a tool and die maker. After retiring, he and his wife, Benita, moved to an acreage near Conway, and built an earth home. Following his wife's illness, they sold the acreage and moved to New Market. In the late 1990s, the couple moved and made their home at Southview Apartments, Clarinda. Leonard is a member of the First Baptist Church, Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Darlene and Benita; brother-in-law Calvin Sims; and sister-in-law Bernice Howe.

He is survived by sisters, Dorothy Sims, Hawthorn, Nev, and Ina J. Howe, Phoenix, Ariz; brothers, Lowell Howe, Kirkman, and Tracy Howe, and wife, Marion, Hancock; nieces, nephews and friends.

Jorgenson, Vivian Arlene Miller - Vivian Arlene Miller, only daughter of Floyd C. and Clara Miller, was born Nov 19, 1929, in Clarinda, Iowa, and passed away Jan 9, 1956, at 5:30 am in the Lake View Hospital of Danville, Ill, at the age of 26 years, one month and 21 days.

On March 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Marcus Jorgenson of Yankton, SD in the Free Methodist Church of Clarinda, Ia.

In her childhood she attended the Free Methodist Church. Seven years ago with her husband she united with the First Presbyterian Church of Clarinda.

Her education was attained in the public schools of Clarinda, with the exception of one summer that she attended summer school in Cheyenne, Wyo.

On April 8, 1951, a daughter, Rhonda Marlynne, was born, which brought much joy and comfort to this happy couple. Jan 8, 1956, twin daughters were born to complete a happy union.

This young and loving mother leaves to mourn her loss, her dear and faithful husband, three baby daughters, her kind and loving parents, her dearly beloved brother, Joedd Miller, who is studying at the University of Allahabad, Allahabad, India, and who was unable to be present with his grief stricken family. She also leaves to mourn her loss her aged grandmother, Mrs Belle Jeffers of Clarinda, and a large number of uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of friends.

Services were held at 10:30 am Tuesday, Jan 10, 1956, from Edmund and Dickson Funeral Parlors at Danville, Ill. Keeney, Carolyne Miller - Funeral services for Mrs W.E. (Carolyne) Keeney, 79, were conducted at the Walker Funeral home Saturday afternoon, with Rev D.C. Davis in charge.

Mrs Keeney was well known in Clarinda having lived here when her husband was owner of the W.E. Keeney Produce. Her husband died in 1936, and since that time she had lived various places, including nine years at Macon, Ga. Recently she had been living in Omaha, but six months ago, she required special care and was brought to the Young Rest Home here in Clarinda where she remained until just a few days before her death, and was then moved to the Municipal hospital, where she died early Friday morning.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce and William (Bill) Keeney and by one brother, Marvin Miller. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs Eddie (Florence) Ostrom, Omaha, and Mrs W.J. (Carolyne) Rogers, Decatur, Ga.

Lasley, Charles, was born March 5, 1868 at Elmo, Nodaway county, Mo., and passed away at his home, 1009 E. Lincoln street, Clarinda, Sept 5, 1933 at 3:30 pm at the age of 65 years and 6 months.

He came to Iowa when quite a young man and was united in marriage to Charlotte Weaver, October 16, 1893 in East River township. Eleven children were born to this union one of whom died in infancy.

He has ever been a good and loyal citizen, hones and upright in his dealings with his fellowmen, a hard worked to secure the necessities of life for his large family. He had been employed for many years as a section hand by the Burlington Railroad Company. During the last year he failed in health. The immediate cause of his death was appendicitis.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife, six sons, Glenn, Leo, Charles Jr, Harold, Theodore, and Harland; four daughters, Mrs Leroy McKowen, Mrs Grace Golf both of College Springs, Ia., Mrs Earl Littleton, and Helen Lasley at home; two sisters, Mrs B.W. Thompson of Malvern, Ia., and Mrs Olive Finchen of Silver City, Ia; four brothers, Albert Lasley, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Edward Lasley, Mission, Texas, Earl of Omaha, Neb., and Henry of Silver City, Ia.

Since his marriage, 40 years ago, he has lived in Clarinda.

Lasley, Charlotte Rachael Weaver - Mrs Charlotte Rachael Lasley, 83, mother of 11 children, died this Monday morning at the home on E Lincoln St after an active life spent entirely in Page County.

She was the wife of Charles Lasley and had 11 children, eight of whom are living. She was born in Page County June 17, 1875 as Charlotte Weaver, and was married to Charles Lasley, Oct 16, 1893. She is remembered by friends to have counted more than 75 in her immediate family, having 45 grandchildren and her descendants extended to great-great-grandchildren.

Mauderly, Jerome - Jerome Mauderly, son of Joseph and Ida Ridnour Mauderly, was born in Page County, near Hawleyville, Ia, on Dec 13, 1895, and passed away at the home of his son, Corwin, near Bedford, Ia, on Friday, Nov 6, 1964, at the age of 68 years, 10 months, and 24 days.

He grew to manhood in rural Taylor County, and on Aug 26, 1914, he was united in marriage to Zoa Sollars in a ceremony at Maryville, Mo. To this union five children were born. The home was established in Taylor County until they moved to their farm in the Strand community, north of Villisca, in 1843. They continued to farm this place, except for the years 1949-1953, when they resided in Clarinda. In 1858 they moved to Tucson, Ariz, to make their home. Mrs Mauderly passed away at Tuscon, Sept 17, 1964. Since her death Mr Mauderly had remained here to visit, and had not yet returned to his Arizona home.

In addition to his wife, Zoa, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lucille, who died at the age of seven years; one brother, Glen; and one sister, Permelia Fidler. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs Velma Crowe, and her husband, Herman, Cedar Falls, Ia; Mrs Etta Wisecup, and husband Sterling, Raymond, Ia, and Mrs Ardith Henniger, and husband, Melvin Moberly, Mo; one son, Corwin Mauderly, and his wife Jean, Bedford, Ia; one brother Glee Mauderly, Villisca; one sister, Martha Kendrick, New Market, Ia; thirteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Nov 9 from the Methodist church at Villisca, with interment at the Hawleyville cemetery. The Wolfe funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Rev George S. Mauderly, Zoa Sollars - Zoa Marie Sollars, daughter of John and Dora Ella Sollars, was born near Clarinda in Page County, on December 5, 1899, and passed away at Tucson, Arizona, after a lengthy illness, on September 17, 1964, at the age of 64 years.

She was united in marriage to Jerome Maudely at Maryville, Mo, on Aug 26, 1914. To this union five children were born. They always farmed in the Villisca community until 1959, when they moved to Arizona.

She was a member of the Clarinda Methodist Church.

Mrs Mauderly was preceded in death by one daughter, Lucille, who died at the age of 8 years, two sisters, Clara Head and Nellie Weil and two half-brothers, Jess and Jim Anderson.

She is survived by her husband, Jerome, four children, Velma Crowe, Cedar Falls, Ia, Corwin Mauderly, Bedford, Ia, Etta Wisecup, Raymond, Ia and Ardith Henniger, Moberly, Mo, two brothers, Arthur Sollars, Gravity, Ia and Ernest Sollars, Creston, Ia, two sisters, Bertha Van Alstine, Clarinda, Ia and Maude Kendrick, Chariton, Ia, thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sept 21, 2 pm from the Methodist church at Villisca. The Rev George Snyder was clergyman. Mrs Mabel Dunn was organist and soloist was Mrs Carolyn Harris. Casketbearers were Delbert Mauderly, Chester Kendrick, Darrell Sollars, Lewis Van Alstine, Imre Takacs and Darwin Sollars. Interment was at the Hawleyville cemetery. The body of Mrs Jerome (Zoa) Mauderly, 65, was brought from Tucson, Ariz, to Villisca where funeral services were being held this Monday afternoon, and burial was in the cemetery at Hawleyville.

The family had moved from Clarinda several years ago when the health of the couple had not been good. Mrs Mauderly has been in the hospital frequently in recent years from a lingering illness. She died Thursday in a hospital at Tucson.

She was formerly Zoa Zollars, born Dec 5, 1899. Her son, Corwin, lives at Bedford, and daughters are Mrs Thelma Crowe of Waterloo, Ia, Mrs Etta Wisecup of Raymond, Ia, and Mrs Ardith Henninger of Moberly, Mo. Sisters and brothers are Mrs L.G. Van Alstine of Clarinda, Mrs O.F. Kendrick of Chariton, Ernest Zollars of Creston, Arthur Zollars of Gravity. There are 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Her parents are the late Mr and Mrs John Zollars, who are buried in Hawleyville cemetery. She was preceded also by a daughter, Lucille, sisters, Mrs Clara Head and Mrs Nellie Weil and half brothers, Jesse P. Anderson and Jimmy Anderson.

Maxwell, Ruby Alice Peterson - Mrs Ruby A. Maxwell, 84, of Clarinda, died Saturday afternoon, Dec 9, 1989, at Bethesda Care Center in Clarinda.

She was born Oct 27, 1905 in Montgomery County, the daughter of Melker and Mary Olander Peterson. On Dec 28, 1927 she was married to James Maxwell who preceded her in death Feb 17, 1976.

Mrs Maxwell had worked at Swift's and later at M.H.I. [Mental Health Institute]

She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Bramble of Clarinda and Mrs David (Barbara) Croy of Des Moines. There are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sisters are Grace Bentley, Villisca, Mabel Kelley, McClelland, Ia, Edith Loutzenhiser, Bedford, and Peggy Dickenson, Arleta, Ca.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband and five brothers.

Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Burial was in Memory Cemetery at New Market.

Moger, Judson A. - Shambaugh (Special) Judson A. (Jud) Moger, 81, died this Thursday morning at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital, ending a long illness which has confined him much of his late years to a wheel chair or his bed.

His funeral service is yet to be set, the Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda being in charge of arrangements. It will be held at the Church of God in Shambaugh, where he was a member of unusual faithfulness. He had a near-perfect attendance record, even attending in his wheel chair.

He and Elva Cabbage were married 53 years ago, and they have resided at Shambaugh since 1944 after spending the intervening years on a farm in this vicinity. Morgan, Theresa Mackey - Theresa Mackey-Morgan daughter of Hezekiah & Bell Mackey, was born in Taylor county, Iowa, April 6th, 1875, and departed this life at her home in Clarinda, Friday, December 30th, 1932, age 57 years, 8 months and 24 days.

In the year of 1905 Theresa was united in marriage to Gus Morgan. To this happy union was born one son, Richard Augusta Morgan. Mrs Morgan also has two sons by a former marriage, Wesley Young, of Villisca, Ia, and Fred Young, of Lodge Grass, Montana.

Mrs Morgan lived all her life in Taylor and Page county, Iowa, and enjoyed a large circle of friends. Mrs Morgan leaves to mourn her death, her husband and the three sons mentioned, an aged mother living in Villisca, one sister, Mrs Georgene Hipes, of Nodaway, Ia, eleven grandchildren, one aunt, Mrs Perry Shipley, also many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss their loved one and friend.

Mrs Morgan was bedfast about two months and suffered much pain which she bore patiently to the end. She was a loving wife, a good mother, and a true friend to all. Orme, William Marshall - William Marshall Orme, son of Nathan and Lucina Orme was born in Valley township, Page county, on the old home place, on Aug 24, 1858 and died Oct 16, 1930 at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 22 days. He leaves two sisters, Mrs Emma Rucker of North Grove, and Mrs Louie Spielman, of Clarinda, and one brother, Bert Orme of New Market, Iowa.

On Feb 5, 1880, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Elizabeth Wise. To this union five children were born, of whom four remain: Josie May Bramble of Clarinda; William Delford Orme of North Grove; Neva Reynolds, of Villisca; Mary Oline having preceded him in death. There are twenty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

He joined the Methodist church several years ago and expressed his faith in Christ, and spoke several times during his sickness of being ready to go.

Mr William Orme of near Hawleyville, mention of whose illness was made in last week's paper, passed away at Immanual hospital in Omaha last Friday, October 17th, 1930.

Mr Orme suffered from an incurable disease, cancer of the liver, and all that could be done to make his last hours as comfortable as possible was done by his loving wife and children.

Deceased lived in New Market about 28 years ago when he conducted a general store in the building now occupied by Max Frank. He was born and grew to manhood on the old home place north of Hawleyville and after leaving New Market he returned to his former home, where he lived until his death.

He is survived by his wife and four children, Mrs Josie Bramble and Mrs Vera Ingram of Clarinda, Mrs Neva Reynolds of near Villisca and Mr Delbert Orme of Hawleyville, one brother, Bert Orme of New Market, two sisters, Mrs Emma Rucker of near Villisca and Mrs Louie Spielman of Clarinda, 25 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends.

He was about 72 years of age at the time of his death.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the North Grove church, the sermon being preached by Rev Carpenter of Guss and assisted by the regular pastor of the North Grove church. Burial was made in North Grove cemetery.

Osborn, Joseph Clyde - Mr Joe Osborn, who has been in poor health for more than a year with heart affliction, died last Thursday night about nine o'clock. It had been more than a year since Joe had been able to do any work and he gradually grew worse until the end came to relieve his suffering.

Joseph Clyde Osborn, son of Thomas Jefferson and Sarah Jane Osborn, was born near Clarinda, Page county, Iowa, in July, 1884, and passed away at his home in New Market, Iowa, January 7, 1932, aged 48 years.

In early life he moved with his parents to New Market and has made his home in this vicinity ever since. He was a member of a family of twelve children, six of whom survive--Mrs Ella Campbell of Hawleyville, Mrs Alma Beal of Palisade, Colo., Mrs Jessie Rine of Braddyville, William and Guy of New Market, and Sime of Burlington Junction, Mo. Father, mother, six brothers and sisters preceded him to the other world a number of years ago.

Deceased was united in marriage to Miss Elsie Welch of Clarinda on July 28, 1924. To this union one child was born, a son, who is, we trust, to be a comfort and stay to his mother in the years to come.

To know Joe was to be acquainted with a friendly and generous soul. He had a large number of friends among the miners with whom he ad spent his whole life. They join with the wife and son, brothers and sisters and a large circle of relatives and friends in mourning the loss of his going.

Parker, William H. - William H. Parker was born in Taylor County, Iowa, near Siam, Feb 17, 1872, died at Shambaugh, Ia, Sept 23, 1915, aged 43 years 7 months and 16 days. He was married to Lizzie Pullen, in August, 1897. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters. One son and two daughters died in infancy. Two sons, Earl and Ray, and one daughter, Tilda, remain to mourn the loss of their loved father. He also leaves a mother, a beloved wife, three brothers, and three sisters, and a number of friends, to sorrow over his departure. He was brightly converted about five years ago under the ministry of Elders Hamlin and Schwank, and united with the Church of God. He expressed a sincere desire during his illness to be right with God in all things and was heard to say repeatedly, "Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus." While engaged in prayer with him he was heard to pray earnestly, "Lord bless my family," and during the last night exhorted his sons, "Be good boys." Mr Williams [sic] had been a sufferer for twelve or fifteen years. The funeral was held Friday at 10:30 am at the Church of God, conducted by Rev Jacob Hygema. Burial was in the Shearer cemetery. Parrott, Terry Ross - Terry Ross Parrott was born July 16, 1957 at Clarinda, Iowa to Darrell Maynard and Joyce Ann (Woodruff) Parrott. Terry passed away at his home Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the age of 50.

Terry graduated Clarinda High School and attended college at Wilmer, Minnesota and played football at the school. He returned to Clarinda and began working for Morton Buildings. On September 1, 1978 he married Susan (Nice) Parrott. To this union, three children were born: Chelssi Lynn-Michelle; Ross Benjamin and Calder Ross. In 1985 he transferred to Pennsylvania with Morton Buildings working there seven years. In 1991 he and his family transferred back to Clarinda then briefly working for Pella Windows and doing carpentry work throughout the years with Joel Wagoner. Terry became a guard at the Clarinda Correction Facility in 1997 later working in the maintenance department and becoming a lock specialist where he was still employed. Terry was an outdoorsman with an affection for fishing and all animals. He was a member and past president of the Roller Pigeon Association.

Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents and father, Darrell.

He is survived by his wife, Dannette (Williams) Parrott whom he married Nov 3, 2007 at Weston, Missouri; children Chelssi Parrott of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Ross Parrott and Calder Parrott, both of Clarinda, step son Brady Williams of Clarinda; mother, Joyce Crawford of Clarinda, siblings Dennis Parrott and his wife Nancy of Newton, Iowa, Debbie Reed and her husband Dennis of Clarinda, Tammy Bramgan and husband Mike of Emerson, Iowa, and Randy Parrott and wife Nancy of Clarinda; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at St John Lutheran Church, Clarinda, with Rev Jerome Wagoner officiating. Music was "Amazing Grace" by Willie Nelson, "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum. "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" sung by the congregation. Harriet Evelyn Pullan was born September 8, 1907, on a farm in Jackson County, Iowa near Sabula, Iowa to Alfred Dickinson and Mabel (Seitzberg) Dickinson. She graduated from Sabula High School and Iowa State College with a degree in Home Economics. After graduating from Iowa State she taught school in College Springs at Amity High School until she was married. Harriet was united in marriage June 22, 1935 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Jack Pullan. She was active in church and community organizations in Clarinda including the Westminster Presbyterian Church, American Red Cross, YWCA and Chapter AE of PEO. Harriet enjoyed the many years that she and Jack spent in Florida. Harriet loved taking care of her many rose bushes and sharing her roses with others. She played in several bridge clubs and enjoyed her E-Bell sewing club. Harriet was currently residing at the Eiler House and was the first resident of the Eiler House when they opened.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Pullan; sister, Jane Slade. Pullan, Jack - Mr Jack Pullan, 82, died Tuesday night at Stanton Care Center where he had been a resident since September of 1989.

He was born July 15, 1909 in Highbridge, the son of Benjamin Arthur and Katherine Mullenberg Pullan. Mr Pullan graduated from ISU with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1932. On June 22, 1935 he was married to Harriet Dickinson in Council Bluffs.

He had been Mills County Engineer and Foreman of bridge building on the Alcan Highway. He was the Superintendent of the CC Camp in Clarinda and Engineer for the CC camp at Malvern from 1944 to 1946 as Engineer. Later he was owner of Clarinda Coal and Concrete.

He was active in church and community organizations including Trinity Presbyterian Church, served as president of Chamber of Commerce, president of Page County Savings and Loan, a member of Industrial Board, director of Page County State Bank and the Nodaway Valley Company.

Survivors include his wife Harriet and two daughters, Mrs Keith (Virginia Ann) Crawford, Denison and Jane Elizabeth Schoenthaler, Clarinda. There are three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Surviving sisters are Mrs Duane (Helen) Anderson of New Market and Mrs Tom (Harryette) Brummett, New Market.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ben, James and Karl.

Memorial services will be at 11 am Friday at Trinity Presbyterian Church with Rev Charles Bulger officiating. There is open visitation at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Pullan, James H. - Funeral services will be at the Walker Funeral Home here Friday at 10:30 am for James H. Pullan Sr, 76, former coal mine operator, who died at his home at 406 S 16th St, here Tuesday at 3:45 pm of a heart condition.

Mr Pullan was born in Boone County, Iowa. He had lived here for the past 24 years. He had owned and operated the Inda-Clar Recreation Parlor for the past 10 years.

Surviving are his wife Jessie; four daughters, Mrs Leon (Mary) Hendren of Davenport, Mrs Katherine Hendren of Rock Island, Ill, Mrs Leonard (Florence) Denney of Clarinda and Mrs Paul (Rhoda) McComb of New Market; two brothers, Lawrence of Clarinda and Ben of New Market; and a sister, Mrs Rhoda Updike of Clarinda.

Pullan, James Henry - Funeral services were held July 30 for James Henry Pullan, 72, of Bedford, who died at Clearview Nursing Home in Clearfield, Ia.

He was born Oct 6, 1910 at New Market, the son of Benjamin Arthur and Katherine Mullenburg Pullan. He was a 1927 graduate of New Market High School and a 1933 graduate of Iowa State University, earning a degree in civil enginerring.

In 1935 he was married to Maurine Marquart. He was Taylor County Engineer for 14 years and in 1947 he and a family member started the Clarinda Coal and Concrete Co. He retired from active business in 1975. He was a veteran of World War II.

Failing health forced him to the nursing home seven months ago.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, his parents, and an infant son.

Survivors include his wife, Maurine of the home; two daughters, Mrs Joe (Joyce) Anderson of Oklahoma City, Ok, and Mrs Kent (Jeanne) Petersen of Denver, Co; four grandchildren; a brother, Jack, of Clarinda; two sisters, Mrs Duane (Helen) Anderson and Mrs Tom (Marryette, sic Harryette) Brummett, both of New Market.

Pullan, Jessie V. Howes - Mrs Jim (Jessie V.) Pullan, 79, died at the Clarinda Municipal hospital at 6:30 pm last Thursday [Jul 16] after an illness extending over the past several years

Mrs Pullan the daughter of the late Isaac and Susan Howes, was born at Carbon. After her marriage, lived for many years at New Market, but for the last 27 years she has lived in Clarinda, her home being at 408 S 16th St,. Although she has not been able to see for many years, she has continued to live in her own home. Her husband passed away in March, 1961.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs Leon (Mary) Hendren of Davenport, Mrs James (Katherine) Hendren of Thousand Oaks, Calif, Florence Denney of Clarinda and Mrs Paul (Rhoda) McComb of New Market; and one brother, Earl Howes of Clarinda.

Funeral services were conducted from the Walker Funeral home at 10 am Saturday with the Rev Ralph G. Allen in charge. Organ music was by Miss Aletha L. Hutchings, and the casket bearers were Cliff Drennen, Max Kendrick, Don Jillson, Fiddle Miller, Chris S. Sims, and Mernie Hays.

Pullan, Karl Edwin - New Market (Special)--Carl Pullen, aged 19, son of Mr and Mrs Ben Pullen, of New Market, passed away at 4:30 Sunday afternoon at a Des Moines hospital, after a lingering illness of about five years. He was taken to a Council Bluffs hospital about two weeks ago and when an operation was found necessary he was taken to Des Moines, but due to his long illness he was unable to recover.

He is survived by his parents, three brothers, Benny, Jack and Jimmy, and two sisters, Harriett of the home and Mrs Duane Anderson.

Karl Edwin Pullan, youngest child of Benjamin A. and Katherine Pullan, was born in New Market June 1, 1921 and died at a hospital in Des Moines, March 30, 1941.

His entire life was spent in New Market, entering school when five years old, and attended regularly until ill health forced him to give up school work, during his sophomore year in high school. He made an excellent record as a pupil and examination of the school records show that he was an honor student. He was popular and well liked by his school mates and was known as a capable and trustworthy boy by his teachers. He was talented and interested in athletics and other school activities. Karl attended church and Sunday school at the Christian church.

He is survived by his parents; three brothers, Ben, Jr., of New Market, Jack of Glenwood and James of Bedford; two sisters, Harryette of New Market, Mrs Duane Anderson of Sharpsburg; three grandparents, Mrs H.M. Pullan of New Market and Mr and Mrs John Mullenberg of Des Moines.

Pullan, Katherine Mullenburg - New Market -- Mrs Ben (Katherine) Pullan, 79, died at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital at 3:15 am Saturday [Aug 26] after being in the hospital for nine days.

The daughter of the late John and Nellie Breuklander Mullenburg, she was born at Pella, but most of her lifetime has been spent in New Market. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1963 and sons Benjamin and Karl.

Surviving are her four children, Jack Pullan, Clarinda, James Pullan, Bedford, Mrs Thomas (Harryette) Brummett, and Mrs Duane (Helen) Anderson, of New Market, two brothers, Fred Mullenburg, South Bend, Ind, and Bert Mullenburg, Des Moines, and three sisters, Mrs William (Josephine) Perry, Webster, Wis, Mrs Clint (Nellie) Tedrick, Grand Rapids, Mich, and Mrs Ray (Marie) Latch, Joplin, Mo.

Funeral services were conducted from the Walker Funeral Home this Monday afternoon, with Preacher Glen Mitchell in charge. Soloist was Mrs Verlin Larson, and organist was Mrs Dean Moore. Casketbearers were Robert Malcolm, Thomas L. Harris, Ralph Pendergraft, Otis Wood, Elbert Miller, and Ruby Parsons.

Burial was at the side of her husband in the Memory Cemetery near New Market.

Pullen, Maurine Marquart - Maurine (Marquart) Pullen, age 90, of Littleton, Colorado, formerly of Bedford, Iowa, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Littleton, Colorado. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, August 17, 2002, at Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa, with Rev Randy Allman officiating. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Maurine Pullen was born August 31, 1911, at Lawton, Iowa, to Arthur Marquart and Laura MacArthur Marquart. Maurine graduated from Lawton High School and Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. She was united in marriage to James H. Pullan on June 8, 1935, in Hutchson, Kansas. He preceded her in death. Maurine had resided in Littleton, Colorado for 14 years to be near her daughter.

Maurine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James and son, James Arthur Pullen.

Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Anderson and husband, Dr Joe of Gallipolis, Ohio, Jeannie Petersen and husband, Kent of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren, Nancy Anderson, Julee Brown, Bradley Peterson, and Karla Peters; great grandchild, Dylan Tien Anderson Garbow; sisters, Joyce Rivers of Houston, Texas and Katherine Dicken of New Orleans, Louisiana.
