Robert Alexander Cameron
[letter to Pat O'Dell from Mary C. Heald, 2170 N.E. Merloy Ave, Corvallis, Oregon, 97330 (1986)]

My father, Robert Alexander Cameron, became the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarinda in 1911. He and my mother were married June 15, 1911 in Kirkwood, Missouri and made Clarinda [Iowa] their first home.

I was born June 6, 1913 in Victor, Montana, a very small town of 500 people. I asked my mother once, how come we moved to Montana. She said that my Dad, just out of seminary and a supply minister for the Kirkwood church, had been too modern for the conservative Iowa Church and I guess he was asked to leave. Presbytery found him this little church in Montana.

Needless to say, that humiliating experience did not stop my Dad's career. He was a very successful minister in Montana, Washington State and in several churches of Southern California where he ministered until in his 70's.

There were news items in the Clarinda newspapers about the above family. For further research please check these issues: Clarinda Herald, May 13, 1909; Jun 22, 1911; Jul 27, 1911; Mar 14, 1912; May 9, 1912; Nov 7, 1912; Jul 3, 1913.
