GEORGE E. WOLLENHAUPT
Mr.
and Mrs. George E. Wollenhaupt moved their family to Elliott, Iowa
in May 1936 from Clarinda, Iowa. A new branch bank of the Houghton
State Bank, Red Oak, was being established. Mr. Wollenhaupt was the
manager; a position he held until April 1, 1951.
George
Wollenhaupt was one of twelve children of Adam and Berta
Wollenhaupt. For a time, as a boy, he lived with the family on a
farm in the Lyman, Iowa community. Later the Adam Wollenhaupt family
moved to a farm near Bridgewater, Iowa.
On May 11,
1915 George E. Wollenhaupt was married to Neva Abiah Titus of
Charles City, Iowa. They had four children.
In 1951
the Wollenhaupts moved to Wapello, Iowa. Neva died in November 1952.
A few years later Mr. Wollenhaupt married Edith Snyder of Clarinda
and he lived in Clarinda until his death in Oct. 1962. Both George
and Neva Wollenhaupt are buried in Massena Cemetery, Massena, Iowa.
Three of the
Wollenhaupt children—Arlin T., Georgene E., and A. Burton—completed
school at Elliott. Roberta M., the oldest, had completed school in
Clarinda.
Burton and his
wife, Luella (Steiber), reside in Elliott; Arlin and his wife,
Myrtle (Lewis) live at Wapello, Iowa; Georgene is married to Kenneth
C. Klein and lives in Rochester, New York; Roberta and her husband,
Richard B. Bullock, live in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. |
