GEORGE E. WOLLENHAUPT

Mr. and Mrs. George E. Wollenhaupt moved their family to Elliott, Iowa in May 1936 from Clarinda, Iowa. A new branch bank of the Houghton State Bank, Red Oak, was being established. Mr. Wollenhaupt was the manager; a position he held until April 1, 1951.

George Wollenhaupt was one of twelve children of Adam and Berta Wollenhaupt. For a time, as a boy, he lived with the family on a farm in the Lyman, Iowa community. Later the Adam Wollenhaupt family moved to a farm near Bridgewater, Iowa.

On May 11, 1915 George E. Wollenhaupt was married to Neva Abiah Titus of Charles City, Iowa. They had four children.

In 1951 the Wollenhaupts moved to Wapello, Iowa. Neva died in November 1952. A few years later Mr. Wollenhaupt married Edith Snyder of Clarinda and he lived in Clarinda until his death in Oct. 1962. Both George and Neva Wollenhaupt are buried in Massena Cemetery, Massena, Iowa.

Three of the Wollenhaupt children—Arlin T., Georgene E., and A. Burton—completed school at Elliott. Roberta M., the oldest, had completed school in Clarinda.

Burton and his wife, Luella (Steiber), reside in Elliott; Arlin and his wife, Myrtle (Lewis) live at Wapello, Iowa; Georgene is married to Kenneth C. Klein and lives in Rochester, New York; Roberta and her husband, Richard B. Bullock, live in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
