SHIELDS-BASS

Charles Raymond Shields married Vera Katherine Bass in 1919 and they settled into the life of the Center Ridge community where they spent all of their adult life. They had five children, Dean William, who married Mary Huston of Blanchard, Ia. To this union were born six children: Margaret, Charles Huston (Hugh), Stephen Paul, James Kirk, William Dean, Thomas Wyatt. They have lived in this community and in the south. Grace Margaret married Richard Farquhar of College Springs. They have five children that grew to adulthood: John David, Nancy, Charles, Carolyn, Howard. They have spent most of their life in Iowa except for three years when they worked for the Evangelical Free Church in the Congo. Mary Louise married Willard Galloway in The Sudan where both were missionaries. To this union two children were born, Grace and Stanley. They are at present located at Sioux City, Iowa, where Willard is pastor of a United Presbyterian Church. Harriett Alice married Merle Strohbehn and they have four children, Linda, Paul, Donovan, Mark. They live in Stillwater, Minnesota where Merle is pastor of a United Presbyterian Church. Laura Lucille married Nils Oldberg and they have three children, Rachel, David, Paul. They spent most of their married lives this far in The Sudan as Missionaries. At the present time they are located in Brussels in missionary work. Charles passed away in 1960 and in 1968 Vera married Lee Magill of Atlantic.
