SANDQUIST
Andrew G. Sandquist
(April 21, 1855-March 2, 1941) and Christina Peterson (Feb. 22,
1857-April 18, 1932) were born in Sweden. They were married on May
3, 1877 and in 1881 they came to America, settling on a farm
northeast of Stanton. They were the parents of nine children: Arvid
and Hilma, who were born in Sweden, G. David, Mabel, Anna, Charles,
Clarence, Ellen (died in infancy) and Arthur. All but Ellen lived
past 70 years of age and G. David and Anna, are still living and
over 90.
In 1902 they moved to a
farm southeast of Elliott (Where Dave Shires had lived and where
Jerry Bates now lives). In 1912 Andrew bought 40 A. which Grandma
Rawlings had owned and he built a set of buildings on it. He and his
wife, along with Mabel and Clarence, lived there until the parents
passed away.
When Andrew moved to the
smaller farm, Dave with the help of brother Clarence, farmed the
home place. In Feb. 1916 Dave married Rena Focht and continued
farming there until 1944 when they moved to a farm north of Grant.
Rena passed away in Feb. 1951. They were parents of three children,
Virgil, Ross and Helen (Mrs. Jack Taylor). In 1953 Dave married
Hope Howard and they lived north of Grant until 1956, when they
retired to Elliott. Dave continued to help out on the farm and
wherever needed until past 80 years of age. He helped Carl Alm on a
farm west of Elliott for 13 years besides taking care of a large
garden and doing his own yard work, even when past 90. At present
Dave is the eldest citizen in Elliott.
