JAMES A. REYNOLDS
James A. Reynolds, born in Lawrence County, Indiana, Oct. 14, 1843
and Cinderella Ross, born in Lawrence Co., Ind., March 18, 1850 were
married Sept. 17, 1867 in Bedford, Indiana. Shortly after their
marriage they came to Iowa with his brother, R. H. and family,
making the trip across the country in a covered wagon. They settled
south of Elliott, Iowa.
In 1879 James and family
moved to Elliott and daughter Mabel was the first girl child born in
Elliott after its incorporation. She was born Feb. 17, 1880.
Mr. Reynolds was a
carpenter and served as postmaster 1893 to 1897 during the Cleveland
administration.
Mr. Reynolds served with
Co. G, Indiana Volunteers for the duration of the war before coming
to Iowa.
They were the parents of
eight children: W. T., Lizzie (Cramer), Mary (Saint), Mabel
(Kinney), Leona (Malmberg, Velander), Henry, Pearl (Weathersby), and
Nelle. Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds and children were members of the Church
of Christ in Elliott.
