MAX and MARGENE PETTY

    Max LeRoy (b. 1919) and Margene Mae (b. 1924) Pierson Petty were married in 1946 in Waveland Twp., Pottawattamie Co., Ia. Max is a World War II veteran.

    Max was born in Pilot Grove Twp., Montgomery Co., Ia. to Wm. Harrison (b.1888-d.1965) and Ollie Pearl (b.1889-d.1946) Givan Petty. Max is the grandson of Sherman (b.1869-d.1921) and Emma (b.1865-d.1892) Rawlings Petty and the great grandson of Wm. Jackson (b.1828-d.1920) and Elizabeth (b.1832-d.1887) Sprinkle Petty. The Wm. "Jack" Pettys came to Pilot Grove Twp., from Perry Co., Indiana in 1864. They were farmers and also built a hotel "Elliott House" in Elliott in 1880. Wm. Jack and Elizabeth Petty are buried in Mortons Mill Cemetery, Douglas Twp.; Sherman, Emma and her sister Mary Ann (Sherman's second wife) Petty and the women's parents, Tom and Mary Ann Rawlings, Wm. Harrison and Ollie and son Vernon Petty are buried in Pilot Grove Cemetery, Pilot Grove Twp. all in Montgomery Co., Ia.

    Ollie Givan Petty was the daughter of Conley (b.1857-d.1944) and Clara (b.1868-d.1950) Jones Givan. Conley and Clara Givan are buried in Quincy Cemetery, Adams Co., near Carbon, Ia.

    Max's brothers are Ross, Chico, California; Lloyd, Dean and Milo, sisters, Mae (Mrs. Daryl Showalter) and Doris (Mrs. Wm. Weston) all of Elliott community. A brother Vernon died in 1919.

    Margene was born in Waveland Twp, Pottawattamie Co., Ia., - the daughter of Donald and Myrlee Hamilton Pierson, granddaughter of Curtis and Jennie (Clark) Hamilton and great granddaughter of Chester and Dora Kinkead Clark. (Refer to Donald Pierson and C. M. Clark biographies).

    Max and Margene are the parents of three sons all born in Montgomery Co., Ia.

    Steven Max (b.1949), graduated from Griswold Community High School in 1967 and Northwest Missouri State University in 1971. Steven and Susan Veseen (b.1950), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Veseen of Stanton, Ia., were married in 1972. They are the parents of Scott Harrison (b.1973) and Benjamin Ryan (b.1977) and live in Elliott.

    John Gregory (b.1951) graduated from Griswold Community High School in 1969 and Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Ia. in 1971. John and Teresa (b.1951) Gammell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gammell of Elliott, were united in marriage in 1970. Their children are Christine Diane (b.1970) and Douglas Quinn (b.1973). They also live near Elliott.

    Jack Sherman (b.1957) graduated from Griswold Community High School in 1976. Jack attends Iowa State University in Ames and is a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

    Max and Margene farmed in Pilot Grove and Frankfort Twps., Montgomery Co. for 17 years before moving back to the Elliott community in 1964. In 1969, they bought 230 acres of Margene's Great-grandfather C. M. Clark's estate, where they now reside. This farm was honored as a century farm in 1976.
