ALBERT WILLIAM and OLIVE ELIZABETH
BUFFON PENRY
Albert
William Penry was born Feb. 22, 1896, in Pilot Grove Twp. He was the
son of James Monroe and Pricilla Roberts Penry.
Albert
(Bert) married Olive Elizabeth Buffon, on Feb. 14, 1923, at Elliott,
Iowa. This was also the birthday of Olive's grandmother. Her parents
were William Ellsworth and Edith Elma Hurst Buffon. Olive was
baptized into the Christian Church at Elliott.
Bert was a
farm hand when they were first married. They lived with Bert's
parents until they were able to move to the Braden place, west of
Elliott. They lived in the Elliott and Stennett area until moving to
Red Oak, in Dec. 1944. Bert, later on, drove a truck for 20 years.
He retired a number of years ago.
Bert and
Olive were the parents of ten children: Mrs. Harvey H. Orr (Elsie
Mae0; James William; Mrs. Victor S. Anderson (Laura Marie); Elmo
Fay, who married Mary Jane Holldorf; Mrs. Wayne Hammer (Mary Ann);
Francis Edward, who was married to Myrna Rose Govig; Shirley Jean;
Nancy Joan (twins); Guy Ellworth, and Robert Lee. The children were
all born while living in the Elliott and Stennett area, except for
the last four who were born in Iowa City. The children are all
living except Robert Lee who died at birth. Bert and Olive also have
21 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Olive
enjoys working with plants, both indoor and out. She has also pieced
over 20 quilts, by hand. She has given them to all her children and
relatives.
Bert and
Olive's health is now failing, and they are not able to get around
and do as much as they once did.
