LARSON
John Andrew Larson was born in a Dug-out near Randolph, Neb., July
10, 1887. The son of Carl John Larson and Augusta Josephine Carlson,
he attended a country school and helped farm. He married Anna
Carolina Victoria Hildor near Stanton, Iowa on March 15, 1911. She
was the daughter of Gustaf Hildur and Anna Erickson of Stanton,
Iowa. She was born Jan. 16, 1889. Attended country school and one
year at Wahoo, Neb.
They lived near Randolph,
Neb. when first married, where he was a farmer. They moved to
Stanton, Iowa in 1916 to farm. He was the President of the School
Board. He helped another man butcher for all neighbors in a
slaughter house near by. Five families worked together making their
own cheese, heating milk in a boiler on a range. They purchased the
farm from Charles Hully, northwest of Elliott in March 1925. He
retired and purchased the Joe Holtmeyer house in Elliott in 1950. He
was then self-employed.
They were parents of four
children:
Iva Larson (m. George
Houtz) born Jan. 25, 1912, lived in Minneapolis, Minn. where he was
Special Agent for Northwestern Railroad.
Doris Larson (m. Ellis
Reed) born May 23, 1913, lived and farmed east of Elliott.
Kenneth Larson, born June
25, 1916, and married Elaine Maurice of Duluth, Minn. He is a
teacher and Campus Pastor for Lutheran Church in Portland, Oregon.
Donovan Larson, born Feb.
6, 1919, and married Mary Taylor of Red Oak, Iowa. He is State
Forester in Springfield, Ill.
John and Victoria entered
Griswold Care Center in the summer of 1978. They celebrated their 68th
Wedding Anniversary March 15, 1979 at the ages of 91 years and 90
years. They were members of the Lutheran Church all their lives. He
served on the Church Board for over 50 years. She was a Sunday
School teacher many years.
