ABNER GIBSON
Abner Gibson was born April 3, 1847 near New Castle, Penn., in
Lawrence County. His Parents were Charles and Letitia (Todd)
Gibson, natives of Pennsylvania and Virginia. He received his
schooling and agriculture experience and training in his native
county of Lawrence, Penn. At nineteen years of age, he came to
Jackson County, Iowa; and began farming and moved to Pleasant
Township, Cass Co., in 1871.
Abner Gibson was married the 19th of March, 1884, to Sarah Merenda
Barrett, a native Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Hercules and
Susan (Hawkeye) Barrett and was born near Monmouth, Jackson County,
Iowa, March 28, 1859.
Mr.
and Mrs. Gibson farmed in Pilot Grove Township from 1884-1886 and
lived on the same farm in Pleasant Township from 1886 until their
death. They were the parents of one daughter, Elsie L., born January
27, 1890. Elsie graduated from Elliott High School, and attended
Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa; and returned to live on the farm
in Pleasant Township.
Abner
Gibson died May 20, 1931 at home and was buried at Lowman Cemetery,
Cass County.
Sarah
Gibson passed away January 22, 1946, at home, and was buried in the
Lowman Cemetery.
The
Gibson's were active members of the Elliott Church of Christ.
