LYMAN BOTTS
Lyman Jasper Botts married Mardula Lucy Blair,
daughter of Alonzo and Mildred (Coke) Blair of Plymouth, Ill. Mardula was a teacher at the Botts school and Lyman
was one of her students. The couple was married at Carthage, Illinois
September 18, 1889. Lyman farmed east of Elliott until 1909 until they moved to another farm, south
of Red Oak, Iowa. They then moved to Red Oak where Lyman ran a
garage and an Auburn Automobile Dealership. The family moved to the farm
east of Elliott in 1918. The basic 120 acres had been given to Madula Blair by her father as a wedding present in 1889. In 1903
they purchased 40 acres more and in 1906 another 80 acres. Lyman
lived on the farm until his wife died in 1934. He then moved to Red
Oak. The children of Lyman and Madula are Beryl,
who died in infancy, July 26, 1897, and Blair Lyman Botts, born at
Elliott, Iowa Sept. 22, 1903.
Blair Botts was married to Ethel Josephine Curry, daughter of Riley William and Carrie Delia (Embree) Curry of Grant,
Iowa. Six children were born to this marriage.
1. Lyman Eugene, born
Feb. 3, 1928, at Grant, Iowa. He was named for his grandfather. He married
Doris Gloria Palmer, daughter of George and Dina (Bakke) Palmer of Walnut,
Iowa. Five children. Served in the Army Air Borne during the Korean
Conflict. Severely injured in a parachute jump. Citation: Battle Star.
2. Sidney Jasper,
named for his Great Grandfather, was born at the farm home at Elliott,
Iowa, Jan. 26, 1930. He married Joanne Joyce Wheeler, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Lysle Wheeler of Red Oak, Iowa. One child. He was a Sgt. in the U.S.
Army Infantry during the Korean Conflict. Killed in Action at Heartbreak
Ridge, Oct 15, 1952. Received the Purple Heart. Buried at Hillside,
Elliott.
3. Mildred Ocea, named
for two cousin's of Blair's, Mildred Myers and Ocea Rawlings. She was born
at the farm home at Elliott Aug. 23, 1934. Married William W. Miller, son
of Dale and Alva (Bolten) Miller, Macedonia, Iowa. Four children.
4. Helen Louise, named
for Helen Botts, Blair's cousin, was born at the farm home, Elliott, Iowa,
Dec. 30, 1936. married Howard Gene Hinemeyer, son of Howard and Agnita
(Erickson) Hinemeyer. Four children.
5. Betty Jeanne, born
Aug 11, 1944, Red Oak, Iowa. Married Wayne LeRoy Ireland, Griswold, Iowa.
One child. Second marriage, Robert Streit, Omaha, Nebr. Two children.
6. Randall Lee, born
Aug. 27, 1951, Red Oak, Iowa. Married Susan Lynn Tibben, Adair, Iowa. Two
children.
Blair Lyman Botts
attended Red Oak high school and graduated in 1922. He attended Iowa
State College at Ames until he became ill. He came back to Elliott
where he began farming with his father, and continued to farm until his
death as the results of a farm accident. He died Nov. 30, 1978.
