J. E. BISHOP
John Edward (Bird) Bishop was born 8 March 1892 at
Elliott, Iowa, the son of Robert Grandon Bishop and Amelia
Helen (Rassner) Bishop. He attended country school in Pilot Grove
township. He married Ruth Elizabeth Olmsted at Vesta,
Nebraska (Johnson County), 18 Feb. 1917. She was the daughter of
John Jones Olmstead and Jennie Lind Jones Olmsted of Tecumseh,
Nebraska. She was born 21 November 1893, Vesta, Nebr. She
attended country schools and some high school in Vesta. They lived
at Elliott, where he farmed. Their children were Mable Marie
Bishop, born 11 July 1918, and Jennie Amelia (Jenelia) Bishop
Copenhaver, born 4 July 1930. He died 12 July 1937 at
Atlantic, Iowa and was buried in Pilot Grove Cemetery, near Elliott, Iowa.
She died 27 November 1977 at Ames, Iowa and was buried
at Pilot Grove.
Mable Marie Bishop (called Marie) was
born 11 July 1918 near Elliott, Iowa. She attended Elliott Consolidated
School, graduated in 1936. She obtained a B.S. in Home Economics Education
from Iowa State University, Ames, in 1942. In 1956 she obtained a M.S. in
Extension Administration and Sociology from Michigan State University,
East Lansing, Mich. She was employed by I.S.U. Extension Service from 1942
to 1975, working in Onawa, Adel and Ames. In 1979 she is retired in Ames,
Iowa.
Jennie Amelia (Jenelia)
Bishop was born 4 July 1930, near Elliott, Iowa. She attended Elliott
Consolidated School, graduating in 1947. She and Basil Copenhaver were
married in 1948 and lived in Griswold, Iowa. They were divorced in 1974.
Four children were born to Jenelia and Basil:
Marion Basil
Copenhaver, 1948; in 1979 is employed by Travelers Insurance Co., Des
Moines, Iowa.
Colleen Marie
Copenhaver, 1950. In 1979 - living in Delhart, Texas.
Lela Joanne
Copenhaver, 1959. In 1979 - living in Griswold.
Claudia Lee
Copenhaver, 1961. In 1979 - living in Griswold.
Marion
Copenhaver and Sandra Hammon were married in Griswold in 1969. Marti Jo
Copenhaver was born in 1970 in Ames. In 1979 Marion, Sandra, Marti Jo are
living in Booneville, Iowa.
Colleen
Copenhaver and Terry Hoye were married in Atlantic, Iowa in 1972. Colleen
is a C.P.A. In 1979, Colleen and Terry are farming near Delhart, Texas.
They have a son Jefferson David, born 2 March 1979.
